Retiring One Sole Purpose from the store

Hello everyone! Or nobody haha! Not sure if anyone is still left around here but I am just making this announcement just in case at least one of y'all is still hanging around the backrooms of Steam! I have decided to retire this game from the store as I honestly feel it doesn't have the quality a video game on the steam store should have. This was my first game and it holds a special place in my heart but as I grew and learned as a developer over the past 6 years I realized what a quality game should entail. I have no plans to come back and work on this game as I am working on a new project in my spare time called Sophonce. I will be developing this game for a very very... VERY long time and is the game I feel would be a representation of what a fun and engaging shooter should have. This will be my primary focus for the many years to come. I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to each of you awesome people who supported me by buying this game, giving constructive criticism and most importantly, taking time out of your day to play it. Even how poorly it was made I hope at least someone found it enjoyable! I intend to give everyone who purchased this game access to my new game Sophonce when it releases many years from now if Valve lets me! They are a very reasonable bunch of people so I assume they would. Also, thank you for reading this post :). Take care and see you in the distant future when I release my other game!

Hello to everyone who is still left around these parts! I want to express my gratitude to those who still have One Sole Purpose in their library and have not refunded the game. I know I made a promise that I was going to improve this game since I became financially secure. Well, I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that I am not going to continue development on One Sole Purpose...at this time or maybe never. The good news is that I have been working on a game called Sophont these past 2 years and have just released it in early access. Everyone who still has One Sole Purpose in their library should also have Sophont too. Sophont is my second game and the game I plan to take seriously. I will continue to work on this game for another 3 years or longer until I feel it is ready for a full release. I feel giving Sophont to the people who supported me is the least I could do. I know it's not One Sole Purpose but I can guarantee it is a lot better. I took a lot of the constructive criticism I garnered from One Sole Purpose and applied it to Sophont. Hope y'all enjoy the game!

Hey everyone who is still lingering around these parts of steam! It has been a while since I made an update. I have been financially secure for the past 2-3 weeks and during that time I felt it was appropriate to resume work on my game. Unfortunately I cant revert this game back to an early access title so I have decided just to put an announcement on my store page to explain that this game is currently under development and will improve over time. I feel bad because the vast majority of people who bought the game are genuinely frustrated. Thats why I decided I really need to make some major improvements until people are satifisfied with what they paid their hard earned cash for. I feel I am obligated to improve the game until the people who paid for the game get what they expected to recieve. I know this will take a considerable amount of time and a lot of manpower. I already spent 1 year working on this game and now I know that isnt enough for a project of this magnitude. This game will be under development for the next 2 years. If any of you guys want to help me out in good nature, or want to work out a deal of some sort please contact me at onesolepurposegame@gmail.com. I need all the help I can get! I am hoping that in the upcoming months I will no longer be the One Sole Person working on this game. I am dedicated to not give up until I bring smiles on peoples faces! An updated trailer is below, which also shows some of the changes I made to the game in the past 3 weeks. A huge update which will include these changes, a new campaign and more will be rolling out in 5 months. Please feel free to add more suggestions for improvement. Really Important!

Hello everyone! The updated version of One Sole Purpose is live! I want to personally thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for the suggestions and constructive criticism. I took it to heart and fixed/improved on a lot of the things that were pointed out so I hope everyone will find this version of the game a lot more enjoyable!

I have bad news though, unfortunately I cannot continue development on my game at this time. I am flat out broke and I need to go back to my engineering career so I can survive. I really wanted to try to make video game development something I could do for a living because I am really passionate about it, but as of now I don't have any money to continue being a video game developer. I hope you all understand.


There are some noted minor improvements that I have not implemented yet. I decided to go ahead and release the game because these things aren't that important to the overall gameplay experience.

Below are the things that I am still working on. I will be working on these small things on the side and patching the game periodically while I am working at my engineering job.

1.) Giving the Menu an aesthetic design

2.) FOV slider (I had a problem when altering the FOV, the guns stretch on screen when changing the FOV to above 90. I want to make sure the perspective is kept while altering the FOV, so right now I am working on code to make sure this is possible.)

3.) Decreasing load times with Level streaming( I've had some problems implementing level streaming within certain parts of my game...lighting is off and some things don't work as intended, it is weird because some other levels work fine with level streaming.)

4.) Optimization tweaks

5.) Enlarge 4K Resolution Subtitles (Since I am using the engine subtitle system and not widgets, it doesn't have the option to enlarge the subtitles relative to the screen resolution. I will figure out how to get it working eventually.)

Final update before the early access release!

Hello everyone! Hope you are all doing great. This will probably be the last update before I release my game in early access. I have made numerous fixes and improvements to the game and it is starting to come together beautifully. I still have some more improvements that need to be made but I am confident I can finish them in a month. With that being said, be on the lookout for the early access release sometime next month! I hope I get a lot of feedback during that period on how to improve the game tremendously.

Current Improvements:

An option to enable and disable the HUD has been added to the menu

An Invert Y axis option has been added to the menu

Added two more story levels and a tutorial level teaching the player how to use the various abilities

Way-points has been added to the HUD

An objective indicator has been added to the HUD

Enemies respond a lot slower to you teleporting behind them

Cover system is finished

Squad leaders can be destroyed instantly by consuming all red, blue, and green energy reserves

Added different types of squad leaders

Finalized the boss fight with the second guardian

Decreased load times in some levels

Re-designed the earlier levels so the enemies come out of multiple random teleporters instead of just one

Health regeneration system has improved. After taking damage, the player will have to wait 30 seconds until his health recharges.

Instead of an instantaneous health bar refill, it fills up incrementally.

Balanced the combat system

Current Improvements

Current Improvements:

- Added HUD with health, ammo and energy.

- The player's sentinel now has the ability to teleport.

- Added aim down sights/iron sights.

- Enemies now have squad leaders who are significantly harder to kill.

- I have added an alternate ending with an additional boss. You get to face Solam the second guardian. He can summon multiple weapons, long range and close range. His close range weapon is shown in video. *The level that is shown in the video is not the final level you will be facing Solam in, it is just a test level to showcase the boss!*

- Improved on the teleport ground pound power to give the player an indication of where the player is going to ground pound before doing so.

- Added a dynamic cross-hair that changes in size and color.

- Ammo pickups have been added.

- Sentinels have more animations.

- Cover system has been tweaked. When you are behind cover the weapon is pulled back to indicate you can peek out of cover.

Upcoming Fixes

Hello everyone! Good news for the people who purchased the game, I found the source of the crashes and was able to fix them. You should of got an update from steam including this fix! I compiled a list of all the suggestions from you all that will be implemented within my game.

Aesthetically appealing Sci-Fi HUD

HUD: indicator of how much energy, ammo and health you have left

HUD: indicator of where you need to go and what you need to do

Option in the menu to hide the HUD if you want

Reduce bloom, especially in some over saturated areas

Ammo drops

Aim down sights and iron sights

Variable crosshair (one that changes color when pointing at enemies and changes in size)

Option to invert the Y axis in the controller and mouse

FOV options

Customizable resolution settings instead of preset

Improve menu interface/aesthetic appeal

Intelligent AI. (AI that can take cover, flank etc, longer reaction time when you teleport behind them, etc.)

Sentinel flying tanks have more firing modes instead of just rocket fire.(this will make them appear more threatening to the player)

AI that has personality (create voices for the AI)

Build a stronger introduction to the world and characters

Tutorial session built in the game. (Have a tutorial that gets players accustomed to the various weapons and abilities in the game)

Stronger voice acting (Note: I am not very good at voice acting so this might be a difficult task to accomplish but I will try my best! )

Base the game off of UE4's level streaming system to get rid of loading times. (For example, the game will load the next level while playing in the previous one, this will allow for quick transitioning between maps without staring at a black screen.)

Cut scenes that have a similar vibe to Half-Life (in which you can freely roam around and characters face you at all times.)

Improve on some of the powers

Customizable controls menu for both controller and keyboard

Improve story especially in the beginning to get players interested in the plot

Option to switch to a specific gun you want without having to cycle through all the weapons

Graphically optimize some portions of the game to get consistent fps throughout the level

Improve on enemy spawn locations within some of the maps ( Especially in the beginning when the enemies come out of the teleporter. Since they are coming from one location the game becomes very predictable and boring.)

Events need to happen quickly so the player won't think the game is stuck

After all these changes are made I will release the game in early access so people can further add suggestions to improve my game. People who already purchased the game will get an update which will include the early access version of the game.
