Tower Mechanics

This week we want to encourage you to ask questions and comment your thoughts. Tower mechanics of the game is the best topic to do this since our game is tower defence hybrid and we didn't reveal much on that yet. Even ingame trailer we published didn't tell much about it.

So lets talk about tower mechanics in the game!

Crafting Towers

Crafting panel asks what kind of foundation and soldier should be used. Foundations determine health of the tower and soldiers determine which weapons you can give to the soldier.

Current Foundation Types:

  • Wooden Foundation: Low height, low health (few woods)

  • Reinforced Wooden Foundation: Medium height, moderate health (few woods and iron)

  • Stone foundation: high height, high health (wood, stone and iron)

Weapons and Ammo

After you build your tower, you can open tower panel to choose weapon and ammo. Soldier's class determines which weapons you can choose. Weapon has base damage but most important thing about the weapon is attack speed and ammo type. Because your ammo is the main damage source.

Current Ammo Types:

  • Arrows- Wooden arrow, poison arrow, explosive arrow and mana shock arrow

  • Grimoire- Fire magic, frost magic, lightning magic and dark magic

After you craft weapon and ammo than put them in the tower, your tower is ready to function.

Gameplay Video is Out!

We want to hear your oppinion about the trailer

Wild Animals

Skinning Leather

Some equipments needs leather to craft. Old Kingdom's islands are home to many animals. You can hunt them and collect leather.

Your chance to get more leather change depending on the size of the animal. But beware! Chasing a big animal can lead you to be hunted. You will encounter different animals in different climate.

Enemy Appears!

Hordes of Jarl Hrafnar Sterkrson

You are not the only one who seeks Old Kingdom's treasures. Vikings are your strongest rival in this adventure.

Your real journey begins after you learn combat and basic mechanics of the game in training island. You will arrive the first Old Kingdom island and built your headquarters there. But you need to build defences not only for dangers in the island. Vikings will try to seize the island from you.

Jarl Hrafnar thinks you are weak. Therefore he sent a small ship of warriors to you first. Everytime you win your defence, he will increase number and strenght of his fleet.

Training Island

You will learn how to fight in this small island before sailing

You can fight dynamically once you learn hotkeys
There are several attack types and you can combine them to create your own combos.

Attack Types and Their corresponding Hotkeys

  • Light Attack - Left Mouse Button
  • Heavy Attack - Shift + Left Mouse Button
  • Thrust Attack - Ctrl + Left Mouse Button
  • Special Attack - Alt + Left Mouse Button
  • Jump/Air Attack - Shift + Space + Left Mouse Button

Defending is more important from attacking, sometimes..
There are several options for defending yourself from your enemies. You can block with your weapons and shield but how much damage you can mitigate is depending on your item's block stats. You can also parry with your weapons and dodge attacks by rolling to a direction.

Defensive Actions and Their corresponding Hotkeys

  • Block - Right Mouse Button
  • Parry - Alt + Right Mouse Button
  • Dodge - Space bar

In Training Island first you will learn basic movement and camera mechanics

  • Character Movement - W, A, S, D
  • Camera Movement - Mouse X, Y axis
  • Run/Walk Toggle - CapsLock

Then you will learn targeting system and interaction with objects

  • Targeting System Lock - Tab
  • Change Focused Target - Q
  • Interact - E
  • Inventory - I
  • Drop Item - R
  • Equip Item - Left Mouse Button
  • Assign to Actionbar - Press number of the action bar while hovering the item example: Press 1 for adding hovered item to first action bar.

Once you test some of the weapons on dummies, you will head to the arena for some real combat experience!

Weapon Mechanics

Weapon type means combat style

There are 6 types of attack actions and every weapon has its own unique attack style.

Attack types:

  • Light Attack
  • Heavy Attack
  • Thrust Attack
  • Air Attack
  • Special Attack
  • Ambush Attack

Attacking cost stamina based on type of the weapon and attack type.

Weapon Tiers
Using a type of weapon in battle or on training dummy rewards you experience on that weapon. When your experience bar on a weapon fills, you can upgrade your weapon to a higher tier at Engineering Table.

  • Tier I Weapon: Tier I Headquarter with Blacksmith, common resources to craft.
  • Tier II Weapon: Tier I version of that weapon type with full experience, Tier II Headquarter with Engineering Table, x2 Resources of Tier I version.
  • Tier III Weapon: Tier II version of that weapon type with full experience, Tier III Headquarter with Engineering Table, x2 Resources of Tier I version + special upgrading item.
  • Tier IV Weapon: Legendary upgrade item from bosses, Tier 3 Headquarter with Engineering Table, x2 Resources of Tier I version.

Weapon Durability
If a weapon's durability is zero, that weapon will be destroyed. As you can guess repairing your equipment is important for protecting weapons that gained experience. Repairing costs resources based on current durability.
There are three stages of durability:

  • Fine
  • Worn
  • Battered

Weapon Types and Stats
We developed 16 weapon types so far. But this is not final, we will be adding weapon types and new equipments throughout Early Access. You can see weapon stats when you hover your mouse on the weapon in inventory.

Only thing to explain about weapon stats is that "Attack Speed" is based on the weapon type. So when you look at Tier I Greatsword you will see 0.8 Attackspeed but Katana's attack speed is 1. That doesn't mean Katana is slower than greatsword. There are more greatsword variations other than your crafting recipies. You can find these items or recipies of them by various ways that will be discussed in a later date. Lets check those 16 types of weapons:

    Melee Weapon Types:
  • One-handed Dagger
  • Dual-Daggers
  • One-handed Sword
  • Greatsword
  • Dual-swords
  • Doublesided Sword
  • Katana
  • Sabre
  • Spear
  • Polearm
  • Scythe
  • One-handed Axe
  • Greataxe
  • Maul

    Ranged Weapon Types:
  • Bow
  • Magical Staff

Left-Hand Equipments
We will inspect these items in detail at a later date but there are some items you can use with specific weapon type as shown below:

  • Arrows -> Bow
  • Shields -> One-Handed Weapons
  • Grimoires -> Magical Staff and One-handed Weapons
