Order from Caos 2

July Update of Order from Caos 2

Hello, this is Renan, the game dev responsible for Order from Caos 2.

I hope you're doing well.

As usual, I'm here to provide an update on the game's progress. The release date is approaching. October 11, 2023 is just around the corner.

In July, I finally finished the story events and all the main quests. This means that the game is now playable from start to finish. I must admit that I became a bit emotional with the development of this game. I've spent several years with these characters. It will be difficult to get used to meeting new ones in future projects.

Furthermore, I managed to complete the artwork for 98% of the NPCs and possibly 95% of the game's enemies. I finished the events related to 55% of the side quests. I'm making an effort to ensure that most of the side quests help to better understand the lore of the game's universe or tell stories that make sense within the overall storyline.

There are some things I would love to add, such as more scenarios, but if I do so, I believe I won't have enough time to deliver the game on time. However, I want to make it clear that I haven't cut anything, I'm just not going to add more.

Working alone is always a challenging task, and creating an RPG of this magnitude using the few remaining hours of the day is even more difficult to accomplish. That's why I've been working on it for so long. The most important thing is to stay focused. This game has been in the works since before the release of the original Order from Chaos, which came out in 2020.

Finally, I want to thank everyone for their ongoing support. I'm sure we'll have many discussions about specific characters and actions. Just a reminder that this is a story-focused game, but you'll need to make an effort to upgrade weapons, find Lumenis throughout the scenarios, and defeat many viridis (enemies that roam the world of OfC2).

To make things easier, there will be a certain point where fast travel will be possible. I'll bring back some opportunities to earn gold and experience faster... But it's a secret.

And here are some more monsters and new screenshots for you.

Until next time.

Thank you, and until the next update post.

June Update of Order from Caos 2

Hello, my friends.

This is Renan, the Game Dev working on Order from Caos 2. It's time to talk about the development process and bring some news about the game.

Wow! I've been working on this game for a long time. The initial version of the story started in 2006 or 2007, and the second version, more robust with more characters and details, was written in 2019. But I continue to add content to make the world as alive as possible.

Well, let's get to it. Here's what I've been doing.

I'm happy to say that the main campaign is already 95% playable. There's very little left to finish. However, there are still some scenarios to change and some final enemies to create.

Demo vs. Final Version:

Daena's battle sprites have been changed.
Another dimension has a new variable. Now you can't have that ability on all the time. You need to level up to keep it active for longer.
When fighting an enemy, the player no longer faces the defeated enemy to avoid encountering them repeatedly.
Numbers for Lumenis Points and their relation to weapon purchases have been updated.
Balancing of battles has been adjusted.
Grinding is still necessary, but there are various ways to become stronger in the game. Exploring the environment is essential.
It's possible to escape from all non-boss battles.

Special Dungeons:

In Order from Caos 2, I've added special dungeons with slightly more challenging bosses. So, get ready to become stronger. When you finish all of them, you'll be greatly rewarded. Although they are part of a side quest, they have a strong connection to the main story.

Battle System:

The battle system features character positioning in rows. The closer a character is to the enemy, the stronger their physical attacks and weaker their defense. The farther away from the enemy, the stronger their defense and magical attacks, and weaker their physical attacks. Each character has their own characteristics, and it's up to you to choose the best way to use them.

Summoning:

Just like in Order from Caos in 2020, summoning is back. They are always related to the main story. We didn't have any in the demo, but you'll encounter them during your journey.

Team:

There will always be 6 playable characters. Additionally, some extra characters will appear in the story and can be used in combat as team members. I won't reveal who they are to avoid spoilers.

Enemies:

All enemies are visible on the map.
There are no random encounters.
I'm aiming to have between 60 and 70 enemies. Currently, 59 of them are ready. I believe I should have around 65 enemies in total, but it may change until the final game release.

DLC:

The game won't have any DLCs. I believe RPGs shouldn't have DLCs. They should be complete stories that can be enjoyed within the scope of the game.

NPCs:

In terms of world NPCs, I'd say the progress is still at 50%. But it will progress rapidly. I decided to focus on finishing the main story first.

Sidequests:

I'm working more than I imagined on them. I'm working on the concepts to make them all feel like they're part of the main story. My goal is for all sidequests to be played as part of the main campaign.

Achievements:

Players will have many achievements to unlock. There are dozens of them.

Viridis and Powers:

The viridis are the common enemies in the game. You don't fight against wild animals. The world has been taken over by these creatures. But at a certain point in the game, you'll encounter special versions of them that will grant unique powers to a certain character.

That's it for now. I hope you continue to follow and have the assurance that I'm working hard to deliver a fun and unique game. I can't thank all the players and friends enough for their feedback throughout the development process. You're all very important.

Thank you, and until the next update post.

Order from Caos 2 receives release date

Order from Caos 2, the second game in the RPG series by White Vortex, will be released on October 11th on Steam for PC. The game has no connection to the events or characters shown in the first game of the series and functions as a standalone game.

Order from Caos 2 is a turn-based RPG with pixel art style, created and developed by Renan Barreto. It tells the story of Thomas, a man who lost his family, murdered by a mysterious and cruel Knight from the Empire of Bratania known as Asmodeus. Thomas embarks on a journey of revenge, vowing to destroy his most ruthless enemy. However, there's a detail that can change everything: his family may have never existed at all. Haunted by both possible realities, Thomas must understand what lies behind this tragedy to define his tomorrow, which intertwines with the future of all humanity, even if it means going to hell.

The journey in Order from Caos 2 is unique and offers over 20 hours of gameplay, dozens of side quests, items, special moves, and many puzzles to solve. Enemies roam the environment, and there are no random encounters. Players will explore forests, cities, beaches, islands, temples, secret dungeons, hidden cities, and fight against powerful creatures. There is plenty to do in the game, even if players choose not to follow just the main story.

Dimension Lights

In order to upgrade weapons and improve the stats of the team members, players will need to find Lumenis, luminous spheres scattered throughout the world but in another dimension. Lumenis can be found in many areas of the game.

Battle Tactics

There are six playable characters in the game's main team. Each one possesses unique qualities, and it's up to the player to position them correctly in battle to make the most of their abilities. However, be careful. Some enemies can change the team's position in the middle of battle.

Abilities

Each character has their own skill tree. Each locked block can be unlocked in exchange for Lumenis. It's up to the player to decide how to evolve their character. They can choose to unlock a new ability or open a path to increase the hero's specific stats.

Order from Caos 2 will have support for both controllers and keyboard. It will be released in Brazilian Portuguese and English. The demo version is already available on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1918420/Order_from_Caos_2/

May updates: Order from Caos 2

Hi, everyone.

I'm back to talk a bit about the game's development. I started producing it back in 2020, creating the first images, and now we're almost at the release period. How time flies. At this moment, I have almost all the maps ready, the story finalized, the final events nearly finished, and I'm wrapping up the last enemies. I've already created over 50 enemies with various positions. It takes a lot of effort and hard work to make a game of this size alone. But I'm almost there.

I want to say that every day there is progress, from Sunday to Sunday, so that I can deliver the game with the best possible quality to friends, partners, and fans.

The game is darker than Order from Caos 1 (2020). Thomás, the protagonist, needs to deal with even more complicated issues than Dan, the protagonist of the first Order from Caos. He deals with a personal revenge that consumes him day by day, but his allies are responsible for creating a balance in his feelings.

Order from Caos 2 doesn't share the same universe as the first game, meaning you can play the second one without having played the first. This is a completely new story.

Once I finish the main events, I'll move on to the sidequests and game balancing.

I appreciate everyone who gets in touch in any way, whether through social media, email, or even through Steam.

I want to deliver the high-quality product that everyone wants to enjoy.

And for those who haven't downloaded it yet, take advantage of the available demo.

Thank you all!

Order from Caos 2 December updates

Hi guys.

I want to share some updates on Order from Caos 2.

We promoted our demo at the Brasil Game Show with a booth in the Indie Area of the event. It was a pretty cool experience. It was nice to know that other people, like me, love RPGs.

About the development itself, I can say that it is going well. It is hard to make sprites in the amount I planned. Some things were added to the game as new techniques for the character Alicia, whose design has not yet been released. She, after defeating certain enemies, gains special moves to use in battle. This means that she can use moves based on all enemies known as Viridis that exist within the game. I thought it would be cool to do that since there's a connection to this skill in the story. So, I needed to put into the gameplay what was just said in the dialogues.

Other cool things are the sidequests, too. I've been pushing hard to better integrate the sidequest stories into the world of Order from Caos 2 and the main quests. I want to simply avoid the old logic “NPC > Take an object or kill monster > Talk to NPC again”.

One of the sidequests I finished recently, for example, is connected with others. It is necessary to talk to a specific NPC, and have a fire summon to be able to knock down ice walls in a dungeon where another summon is. Besides, this is part of a much larger side quest that will indicate something in the later stages of the adventure. It's not about changing endings, but about adding content. It looks messy, but rest assured it looks natural in the game.

I've been developing the game since 2019, but I spent many months with the project on hold. I work on many projects at the same time. It's a lot of hard work to implement all of this on my own, but I'm pleased with where the development is going and how the characters are evolving every day.

I'm refining some areas and creating a lot. It's a lot of work to create animations, settings, monsters, items, and sprite sheets, and make all of this coherent within the story.

I would say the job is 25% done, but the speed is now also higher. I hope I can meet the release target date by mid-2023.

Rest assured, I am very committed to making a fun game that can also make us think about relevant issues, which generates good discussions.

I appreciate the support of all the 7,000+ players who downloaded the demo and all the kind friends I made in Order from Caos 1.

Thank you, and see you next time!

Backroom Beyond is going to be available in July. Add to your wishlist

Backroom Beyond is a first-person game that mixes puzzles with single-player adventure in a dark, harrowing environment that makes the player question the protagonist's sanity. Based on the internet myth, Backroom Beyond goes further and makes the player wonder if that journey is about something more personal than anything else.

The narrative has two main points. Drawings tell part of the game's story on the walls. The drawings have no defined authorship, which gives them an extra degree of strangeness. The second point is the existence of The Guide, a being that instigates the players to think about their actions in real life.

The game basically has one objective throughout its 40-level journey: place the red box over the red button and open the door to the next level. It seems simple at first, but it's not. Each environment has its own logic. If the players feel frustrated because something went wrong in their strategy, they can press the “wake up again" button, which will return them to the beginning of the level.

Each scenario has a part of the story to be told, whether in the subway, in the snow, in the house, or in an actual backroom. Each place has its dose of tension and wonder.

The theme song chosen is Pérolas Irregulares (Irregular Pearls) by the band Terceiro Mundo Bom (Third Good World), whose clip has many similarities with the game's project.

“I created this game because I could bring my contribution to the world of backrooms, which I was fascinated by. This myth has everything to do with the stories I tell about the existence of realities and universes that coexist and can collide. The story I set out to tell in Backroom Beyond is fragmented in a way that the player will need to interpret many of the elements. After all, who is The Guide? Who wrote on the walls? Has anyone been there before? Is it possible to leave?”, says Renan Barreto, creator of the game. “And being able to put in the game the song Pérolas Irregulares played by the band Terceiro Mundo Bom, which I'm a fan of is incredible. I could not be happier. The song and the video match very well with the proposal of the story and I would say that both complement each other”.

Backroom Beyond will be available on Steam on July 8th for Windows PC.
