The 666 Update

Hey all!

To start, I never truly planned on releasing any sort of content updates. But the game has done better than I thought it might and the community response has been honestly overwhelming, so I wanted to do something to thank everyone for playing the game and enjoying it as much as you have. This update will be the only ever content update for the game, just a thank-you gift to the fans. I appreciate ya'll!

If you've beaten the game, you'll find a new NPC on the beach who offers you run modifiers. There's 6 of these modifiers, and if you complete a run with a modifier on, you'll unlock a brand new gun and a brand new drink that can start appearing in the shop. 6 modifiers, 6 guns, 6 drinks. 666.

These modifiers are designed to be tricky and change the way you approach the game, be it in terms of handling enemies or spending coin. Some are certainly going to be trickier than others!

This update also contains a good number of bug fixes:

- Lowered sound volume of Lateralis Heavy Industries logo animation by 8 db (sorry)
- Fixed player speed stacking/slowing with certain abilities
- Fixed M2 Dendrocnide showing incorrect damage numbers in the armory menu
- The sniper rifle now correctly destroys explosive barrels
- The song over the credits now stops correctly when the credits are skipped
- Fixed issue with French translation not displaying a text character
- Various other minor fixes

I've also made it so you're guaranteed to find at least one Misplaced Chamber per run. Most likely it will come later in a run, so hopefully you've been able to save up some coin at that point.

A while back Steam Cloud saving was added, and recently the game was also Steam Deck verified, which is cool.

Also, I'm pleased to announce OTXO's soundtrack is now also available on Steam! You can grab it in a bundle with the game if you'd like.

I'd like to take a moment to thank everyone for playing and enjoying the game. I put a lot of work into it and it's very gratifying to see that effort appreciated on the other side. This update is for you! Thanks :)

Patch 1.03

Hey all!

Thanks for playing and enjoying the game so far (and leaving reviews, I really appreciate those). This patch contains mostly bug fixes with a small amount of balance changes, mostly related to how finding Misplaced Chambers works.

Features:
Vsync toggle now available.
Misplaced Chambers now have a higher chance of appearing the longer you've gone without seeing one.
Credits can now be skipped by pressing the Interact button or Enter.

Fixes:
Intro logo sounds are now tied to sound volume
Fixed laundry room Misplaced Chamber having considerable lag
Fixed explosion damage not affecting the player properly
Fixed Gunboot bullets when combined with Homing Pigeon so they no longer provide infinite ammo for your gun
Fixed rebinding alt/ctrl being "undefined" in the options menu
Fixed Sober achievment unlocking even though players had taken drinks that run
Fixed El Cycle ability being overridden by the reload animation of some shotguns
Fixed issue where if you have the setting enabled for music to not go into slowmo during Focus, it would bug out after finishing a level and play in slowmo for the next level
Fixed error occurring in the tutorial
Fixed an issue where starting a new run with a current Impossible Mode save would put you into another Impossible Mode run.
Fixed issue where pausing while Deabrua had pentagrams on the ground would cause their sound to continue playing.
Fixed an issue where fishing while holding a stick would break the player sprite.

Balance:
Many Doors drink has a higher chance of finding a Misplaced Chamber now.

A note on Steam Deck verification: I did some research and it turns out that Steam is slowly rolling out this option to developers, so currently I don't have the option to apply for verification, and will just have to wait on Steam. However, I viewed the requirements and the game absolutely passes Steam Deck verification (plus we've heard from all the Steam Deck players that it runs perfectly).

Cloud Saving: This is next on my agenda and something I'm looking into! Hopefully by next patch I'll have that sorted.

Once again, thank you all for playing and enjoying the game so far. If you haven't left a review, please do so, it helps a lot! If we can get over 500 reviews we have a shot at an Overwhelmingly Positive rating, which would be excellent. But regardless, thank you all, genuinely.

Launch Patch 1.02

Just a few small bug fixes here, but also an important one:

If you, before starting the game for the first time, changed your language or went into the options, your save now has a problem where it believes you've unlocked everything. You'll know if you're affected by this if you opened the game and immediately got the two achievements Collector and Investor.

Unfortunately, the only way to fix this is to delete your save. Fortunately, you shouldn't have anything unlocked because it wouldn't let you (at least for the girl at the bar, not sure about gachapon machines). I'm truly sorry for this, this is one of those kind of bugs that just slips by. I'm glad I'm catching it Day 1 at least so the continued life of the game is fine for most players.

To delete your save, go to your local app data and delete your OTXO folder. Hit Windows Key + R, type in %appdata&, navigate back to your Local folder (it might have taken you to your roaming folder), and delete your OTXO_Release folder. Then restart the game. You'll have to do the tutorial again, but like I said, this will fix the issue and you will be able to enjoy the unlockables.

Once again, I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. This should solve it going forward, and as usual, feel free to let me know if you run into any bugs.

OTXO Less Than 2 Weeks Away!

Hey all, developer Lateralis here.

In 12 short days, on 4/20, my game OTXO will be in your hands. I wanted to take this moment to thank everyone who's wishlisted and been interested in the game. Ultimately games aren't made in a vacuum, and I've had excellent responses from players that have shaped and helped form the version of OTXO you'll be playing soon.

I'm really proud of what I've made. OTXO is a very tight game with challenging gameplay and a lot of unlockable content that I think people will really enjoy. In my opinion it scratches an itch that other games in the genre have been unable to satisfy (both roguelites and top down shooters). I can't wait to hear your reactions to the game. To say I'm excited about launch is an understatement.

If you want to be part of the larger community for my games, please feel free to join the Lateralis Discord. If you have any feedback about the game or anything you want me to hear directly, that's the best place to do it! It's likely going to be pretty buzzing when OTXO launches.

Once again, thank you all for wishlisting and being generally interested. Without you all my game wouldn't exist.

I'll see you all on the 20th!

OTXO is launching on April 20th! 🩸

OTXO Next Fest Stream 🔫🩸

Hi there!

Since the game's reveal and playable demo at the Going Rogue festival in April, a lot has changed with OTXO. Are you ready to catch a fresh glimpse of the inexplicable, abstract mansion as the NEW free playable demo for OTXO lands just in time for Steam Next Fest?

The new purpose-built demo of this fast-paced, violent, top-down roguelite shooter will give you a taster of what the full release of OTXO will look like without giving away too much. Take on the first two areas of the Mansion and fight two of the game's bosses, if you make it that far that is... Master the precise yet savage gunplay and don't forget to utilise your Focus, the time-bending slow-mo mechanic.

The demo will be available for the duration of the Next Fest, from 3rd October to 10th October.

To coincide with Steam Next Fest, developer Lateralis and Super Rare Games' Ryan Brown will be playing OTXO in a pre-recorded stream for roughly 1 hour, showcasing gameplay and sharing insights into the game.

And if you like what you see, don't forget to wishlist the game! The Algorithm Gods™ like us when you do. 🙏

OTXO - Going Rogue demo available now (+ publisher announcement!) 🩸✨

Hi, Ryan from Super Rare Originals here! 👋

I'm beyond proud to get to announce that OTXO, the gritty, violent top-down roguelite shooter from Lateralis, is the next game under our original publishing label, Super Rare Originals!

We all here fell in love with Nate's vision from the very beginning, and we loved his work so much we published the physical Switch version of his previous game, Dogworld. Nate's signature minimalist, gritty art design and his take on the world of roguelites, shooters, and gaming as a whole was an absolute perfect fit - it's an honour to announce it as our 6th Originals game!

As part of Steam's Going Rogue: A Festival of Persistence event, OTXO's first publicly playable demo is available right here, right now... but only until May 9th, 6pm BST! So slow down and roll over to that lovely green install button on the store page.

We'll be bringing you more info on OTXO in the near future, but for now, make sure to keep tabs on Laterali's Twitter for tasty gameplay clips and details! 🖤

(Oh, and did you know it was pronounced 'oh-cho'? Don't tell Nate I pronounced it incorrectly for a few months or he'll banish me to the mansion 👀)
