Outbreak: Epidemic

Outbreak: Epidemic v6.0 Released! Local Co-op Added!

A second hotfix for Outbreak: Epidemic v6.0 has been released. This hotfix includes:

  • Added impact force from weapons on enemies.
  • Increased the power of player flashlights in local co-op to make it easier to see.

A hotfix for Outbreak: Epidemic v6.0 has been released. This hotfix addresses:

  • Numerous bugs fixed in local co-op revolving around switching weapons and managing the inventory.

Outbreak: Epidemic v6.0 has been released! This update includes:

  • Local 2-player co-op splitscreen. You can now play the entire game with a friend locally through splitscreen. See this post about details and how to use this feature. NOTE: If you've played Outbreak: Epidemic before, it is highly recommended to reset your controls to defaults prior to playing again.
  • Added a vertical splitscreen option to the Options menu. You can choose horizontal or vertical.
  • Upgraded the underlying engine to latest version. You should see less stuttering during gameplay (especially on lower-end machines) and a small framerate boost across the game in Single-Player and Online Co-op modes.
  • Fixed an issue where games could be joined after they were started. Join-in-progress is not supported and would cause the game to crash and exhibit other issues.
  • Minor fixes across the game.

Local Co-op is coming to Outbreak: Epidemic!

Hey Survivors!

Fast off the heels of Outbreak: The New Nightmare getting local co-op, we're happy to announce it's coming to Outbreak: Epidemic as well! You will be able to play the entire game in 2-player splitscreen co-op. This will be coming to Steam first and then consoles later in 2020!

Local Co-op Overview

You'll access splitscreen co-op through the new Local Game menu (replacing the Single-player menu).

Once there, you can either set up a solo or local co-op game by selecting your characters for each player. If P2 is set to None, you'll play solo. If you set a character, you'll enter local co-op when the game starts.

Both players will be able to select their characters and fully level them up during gameplay. All characters are pulled from the owner's Steam profile. Everyone shares EXP, so each player will get equal XP as you fight through the scenarios. All game modes and scenarios are supported in local co-op.

You can customize controls for each player in the Options -> Controls menu. Either player can use Keyboard, mouse or gamepad and all controls can be rebinded.

You can also see the current stats and EXP of each player via the Options menu.

Unfortunately, due to current limitations, only one inventory screen can be up at the same time. BUT you can still use the hotkeys to quickly equip your different weapons without going into the inventory and interrupting gameplay.

Stay tuned for details on when this patch will be going live. As with Outbreak: The New Nightmare, local co-op is experimental and you may encounter bugs or other issues. You can expect patches for both titles in the near future as the experience is refined.

Thanks for playing the Outbreak series. The best is still yet to come!

Outbreak: Epidemic is now available! (v5.0 Release!)

Hello Survivors!

I'm happy to announce Outbreak: Epidemic v5.0 has been released! This major content update brings the game into a complete enough state to transition from Early Access to full release! To celebrate the launch, the title will be 40% off during the launch window!

Outbreak: Epidemic is a 4-player co-op survival horror adventure (that also plays great solo!) that covers the story of Gwen, Tom, Kara and Renault as they try to escape the epidemic. As they travel across multiple different locations, you'll fight your way through the Campaign, wave-based Onslaught mode and the Experiments scenarios!

Outbreak: Epidemic was created by a solo indie developer. Your support means the world and I hope you have a lot of fun with this latest title. I'll keep an eye out for feedback for upcoming updates, new features, content and more! I'm excited to grow the title with the playerbase over the next year!

The v5.0 major update includes:

  • Six new scenarios across the Tunnels and Streets locations.
  • Significant gameplay rebalancing, including optimizing the experience for both solo and co-op players so everyone has a great experience.
  • Significant performance upgrades across the title.
  • The first batch of DLC that is now available!
  • And many more fixes and small enhancements across the entire title.

Thank you for all the extensive feedback during the Early Access period. Outbreak: Epidemic has transformed significantly since launch on July 9th, 2019. The game has improved by such a huge margin since that time and I hope you and your friends have a great time with it!

Thank you and best of luck surviving the nightmare!

Outbreak: Epidemic Major Content Update Coming Feb 12th, 2020!

Hey Survivors!

We're happy to announce that Outbreak: Epidemic will leave Steam Early Access on Feb 12th, 2020 with the release of a brand new major content update! It will also release on Xbox One at the same time.

What can we expect in the update?

You'll be fighting across six brand new scenarios in two new locations, the Tunnels and the Streets. After their harrowing escape from the underground morgue and repairing the train, the survivors find themselves trapped in the city's subway system. You'll need to blast your way up to the street-level if you want to escape. Then on the streets, the survivors will be confronted by both defusing a nuclear bomb and repairing their means of escape.

This update will bring Outbreak: Epidemic up to 18 total scenarios across the Campaign, Onslaught and Experiments modes. In addition, numerous gameplay fixes, tweaks and minor enhancements are included based on the months of testing the game has gone through. It's going to be a massive expansion to the series.

Why leave Early Access now?

Outbreak: Epidemic will have reached a point with this update that it is fully functional and playable from start to finish. The majority of major bugs have been eliminated and the game plays great in both single-player and up to 4-player co-op. In addition, you have 18 scenarios to fight across (fully in co-op if you choose!). It makes sense to bring the game to a larger audience now.

But is this the end of development for the game?

Of course not! Like all other titles in the Outbreak series, this title will continue to get new content. I'll be looking for the players to suggest in the discussion boards what they'd like to see more of: features, weapons, scenarios or fixes! Your feedback will directly drive where the game goes from here! So grab some friends, get some playtime in and send me your feedback on the forums!

Stay tuned for more information leading up to the release, including details on the Deluxe Edition DLC! Thank you for playing Epidemic and the entire Outbreak series. The best is yet to come!

Dev Update 1/20/2020

Hey Survivors!

It's time again for another Dev Update!

Brand new Steam library art!

All of the Outbreak titles on Steam now have brand new library art for the new Steam UI! Your library will look more beautiful and this art is now consistent with ports of these titles as well!

Progress on New Content

Things are progressing well on brand new scenarios - six to be exact! In the last update, we showed a bit of the underground subway tunnels, and today we're showing a bit of the city location! Get ready to fight the undead on the streets as you race against time before the city is destroyed by the epidemic.

There will be brand new Campaign, Onslaught and Experiments Mode scenarios in the city. The campaign will find the survivors desperately trying to disable a nuclear bomb while also trying to repair a method of escape on a tight timeline. The city campaign scenario is a bit different as the objectives can be tackled in more of a non-linear fashion... although your goals will come together at the end!

The Experiments Mode scenario in the city will task you with eliminating a huge amount of enemies with very limited supplies. If you rush in guns blazing, you will get overwhelmed. Take it slow and plan your attack if you're going to survive. But beware, healing items are very scarce!

Ports

We're happy to announce that the Xbox One port of Epidemic is coming along well. We'll have more details in the coming weeks on timelines for it, but you won't be waiting long.

Thank you!

Thanks again for playing the series and we look forward to surviving with you in 2020 and beyond! We're happy that the series is going strong as the original Outbreak celebrates it's third anniversary!

Dev Update 1/11/2020

Hey Survivors!

Checking in with a quick dev update on Outbreak: Epidemic!

New Scenarios

Progress is coming along nicely on the brand new location (The Tunnels) and the new scenarios that take place in it. Sometime in the next month or so, you'll be venturing into the subway system after your harrowing efforts to restart a train in the Depths scenario. The survivors are hoping to find help near the city... but unfortunately they'll just be descending further into hell.

The Tunnels location will feature a brand new Campaign, Onslaught and Experiments mode scenarios. Stay tuned for details on the Experiments scenario, it's going to be an explosive good time!

Check out the screenshots below for your first look!

Console Port

The console port to Xbox One is coming along nicely! It took a bit of resources to get everything set up, but now it's on the horizon. Check out our Discord for more information (link in the forums!).

Thanks again for supporting the Outbreak series. Looking forward to surviving with you in 2020 and beyond!

Dev Update 12/30/2019

Hey Survivors,

It's been a bit since we've last spoken. I'm a solo indie developer working nights and weekends on these games and have been doing so for over four years! In that time, I've really not taken any time off, so in the last few months, I stepped away a bit to recharge. Well, I'm back and work on Outbreak: Epidemic has resumed.

In the last month or so, I've been working on the console port to Xbox One. That port has gone very well and I'm happy to say I'm wrapping up the enhancements there and will likely be starting on new content for all platforms in the months ahead.

Stay tuned for new details and thanks again to everyone playing Outbreak: Epidemic and all of the other titles in the series. It's been great to meet folks on Discord, hear your thoughts and see all the fun happening!

Hang in there, survivors. We're nowhere near done yet!

Outbreak: Epidemic Patch v3.0 Released! All New Scenarios!

Hey Survivors!

I'm excited to announce that v3.0 of Outbreak: Epidemic has been released, which features brand new scenarios, enhancements and fixes!

You now have access to the Depths campaign scenario, where the survivors will need to fight through a brutal underground maze to find safe passage into the city subway system. What horror will they uncover as they learn about the government's response to the epidemic? Grab your friends and experience the nightmare!

Next, check out the brand new Death Race experiments scenario! You have limited time to navigate the underground, find a necessary item and return to the train for repairs! Be careful - supply drops are spread thin and in dangerous areas - choose wisely when it's time to restock or when it's time to keep moving!

And finally, experience two brand new Onslaught Mode scenarios as you fight off waves of the undead in the underground!

All this new content takes place in a brand new location! In addition, this patch includes the following:

  • Ability to toggle your flashlight. (Bind this key in the Controls menu or restore your controls to default to use it if you've played before!)
  • Significant improvements to the spectator view to make it more smooth.
  • In-game UI and controls bug fixes to ensure menu navigation works correctly across keyboard and gamepad.
  • Significant improvements to enemy pathfinding to reduce cases of them getting stuck on game geometry.
  • Firing the shotgun when crouched no longer causes your player's animations to freeze.
  • Game size on disk, including memory used during gameplay, has been dramatically reduced.
  • Difficulty balancing and minor fixes across the entire game.

v3.0 also marks the transition of Outbreak: Epidemic to a paid title. Learn more about that decision here!

Note: If you purchased the Premium Content for Outbreak: Epidemic while it was a F2P title, you should still have access to the game. Reach out to me if you encounter any issues!

Thanks again for playing and I hope you enjoy the nightmare! Brand new content will be coming over the next several months!
