Outpost October Update Released

The October release is now available! I continue to fill the world with content and look for the initial gameplay loop. Here's the changelist:

NEW FEATURES:
* Codexes now have a pillar of light above them to make them easier to find.
* The player can press shift to sprint. Sprinting moves the player faster but consumes stamina. Stamina refills over time, and can be refilled faster at an outpost.
* Improved the random placement of Petrite and Flux resources. (Namely, made it more random and not actually secretly just a huge grid.)
* The nearest area to the player will always be present, and more distant areas saved as the player moves away and restored as they move back.

Thanks for playing Outpost! We're getting closer to some actual gameplay.

Outpost September Update Released

The September release is now available! It's here early because I'll be taking a few weeks vacation during the normal release time. This month I undertook an effort to begin filling the world with content, starting very simple. Here's the full changelist:

NEW FEATURES:
* Small collections of brushes now spawn randomly around the world. Brushes can be collected and will show up in your inventory as a resource, but don't do anything useful yet.

Outpost August Update Released

The August release is now available! I took a break for a few months to complete another personal project that I had on the back burner for a few years. Now that it's out of the way, Outpost will be my primary work. Here's the full changelist:

NEW FEATURES:
* The Outpost, the Codex, and Flux all now cast light at night.

That's all this month. Next month we should be back into full swing with more interesting features.

Outpost March Update Released

The March release is now available! It's a smaller release this month because a lot of work had to go into integrating the physics engine so that I could have structures like the Outpost. Here's the full changelist:

NEW FEATURES:
Unlocking the Codex allows it to be collected, granting the ability to build an Outpost.
Press F to float.

Thanks for playing Outpost!

Physics and Flying

It took a while because of some difficult technical challenges, but I've now integrated a physics engine into Outpost. I still need to fix up some weirdness in player movement code that uses it but all the base stuff to make it work is in. Here's an obligatory colliding cubes demo video (not a preview of actual game content, just a test to make sure the physics engine is working properly)

I've also added a floating feature. Press F to start floating. There's a very limited maximum altitude, and you'll burn your thrusters out and fall a bit if you go too high above the ground. The player can extend it later, but for now I need a flying feature so that I can improve movement code a bit, for example so that the player can't walk up steep mountainsides.

Building an Outpost

New in the "upcoming" Steam beta branch: If the player collects 3 Petrite, 1 Flux, and unlocks the Codex, then they can build an Outpost. Outposts are the center of a small base that the player can make. You can make as many of them as you want as you explore the planet, and they'll have other functionality attached to them in the future.
