It's that time of year again. The sun is out, the whole team is in their finest beach wear, and we're all frenziedly buying Steam games to add to our infinite backlog.
Paper Trail has been out for over a month now and we've been thrilled with the response. 94% positive on Steam, 80% on Metacritic, my mum said the game is okay.
So I'm delighted to say that Paper Trail is 30% off for the Steam Summer Sale until 11th July!
Hello paper people, hope you’ve been enjoying the sunshine (or staying in gaming and hiding from the heat - we get it).
A lot of people have been asking about the soundtrack to Paper Trail, by the amazing Claudie Mackula, and it is finally here on Steam! It’s the perfect chill soundtrack for studying, working, gaming, laundry, hang gliding… There’s never a time I wouldn’t want to hear it, to be honest. You can now grab the soundtrack on its own, or in a bundle with the game if you haven’t grabbed it yet.
We hope you've been enjoying Paper Trail! We're here today to release a patch with a few fixes, noted below!
Fixed UI issues with world select when switching save slots
Updated missing credits
Fixed lock state if folding quickly between papers in tutorial
Fixed blackscreen on load in Caves

Launch Stream with the Developers!
Hey everyone!
In case you missed it, Paper Trail is out now! We’re doing a Steam broadcast for the next two weeks with Katie our community manager, and Fred the art lead. They’re not going to be live the whole two weeks, that would be cruel and probably against labour laws, instead we’ve recorded it and will answer any questions in the comments below.
We hope you have a great time playing Paper Trail!
Paper Trail is Out Now!
After four years of work, we at Newfangled Games are proud to say that our origami puzzle game 'Paper Trail' is now out! We've also got a cheeky launch discount of 10% to tempt anyone still on the fence!
Many years ago, me and my brother sat down on a video call and started doodling on sheets of paper - hoping to come up with an idea for a new game. Fast forward to today, and we've been joined by an amazing team of talented people - who've all helped shape and make the final game. We're really proud of what we've managed to make, and we can't wait to share it with you all!
It’s only a week to launch, so here’s a new demo on us!
Seven days left: this time next week Paper Trail will finally be out! To give you all a taste of what's to come, and to say thank you for all your support and input, we’ve got a shiny new demo to keep your folding fingers occupied for the final week.
There were loads of things we were really excited to show off, and didn't get the opportunity to with the last demo. Here’s just a few!
New Environment: explore the ancient temple, learn to use the mysterious source of power that runs through its echoing halls to power old technologies.
New Characters: meet the rag tag bunch of rascals who’ve made the temple their temporary home.
Origami Collectibles: collect a host of tricksy hidden origamis for an extra layer of challenge. No longer just stars, we’ve replaced them with a full collectible system!
Foldable Cutscenes: watch the story unfold (literally) with our interactive scrapbook. The story was very light in the previous demo, and we’re excited to share the tale of the trail in more depth!
Hint System: for those who are here for the vibes more than the mental aerobics, we’ve got a super cool new hint system to help you out.
Accessibility Options: a host of menu options to help with a range of accessibility options, to make playing Paper Trail a comfortable experience for as many as possible.
Pet The Cat: the most requested feature by far, you can now give Ollie the cat all the pets he deserves for being such a good boy.
Phew! What a lot of stuff to pack into a demo, just a week before launch. Whose idea was that?! We hope you enjoy all the new things, and can’t wait to launch the WHOLE GAME in just a WEEK!
Got burning questions or just want to chat? Be sure to join the stream to ask any questions you may have about the game and the team will be sure to answer! You can also join the conversation on our Discord post-event and connect with fellow enthusiasts!
:warning: Attention :warning:
If you're averse to spoilers, take heed! Solutions to demo puzzles will be unveiled during the broadcast.
We hope you enjoy playing Paper Trail! We look forward to launching soon!
Happy folding,
Robert Maloney Production and Publishing Lead
Less than two weeks to launch!
Hey guys, Fred here, and we're counting down! It's been in the making for over 4 years, and will be releasing in less than two weeks - we can't believe we've finally gotten to this point, but the date is fast approaching.
Over the past year, we've been able to really polish and refine the game. Adding everything from bespoke illustrated cutscenes, to character animations and hidden Easter eggs. We're all really proud of what we've been able to achieve here, and can't wait to share it with you all.
Over the course of development, I've personally lived in 7 different houses across 3 different cities and towns. It's been a long journey, with many many many ups and downs. It's very surreal to think that almost five years ago, me and my brother started messing around with a sheet of paper - wondering if it could be a cool idea for a game. After prototyping and testing, building and breaking, QA-ing and play testing, painting and designing - it's done!
We've got a few more announcements coming in the run up to release, so keep your eyes peeled. We're almost there!
