Since the release, many of you asked why the game hasn't got any awards. That encouraged me and I applied to many indie competitions! It appears that you were right.. Papetura has won bunch of them, that is pretty overwhelming for me. I attended my first game festival, and finally met many friendly people in-person.
To wrap things up, here is what happened:
Pixel Awards Europe 2021
“Best Art” winner
“Best Audio” winner
“Indie Grand Prix” winner
CEEGA Central & Eastern European Game Awards 2021
“Visual Art” winner
“Hidden Gem” winner
DevGAMM Awards Fall 2021
“Excellence In Visual Art” winner
“Excellence In Audio” nomination
“Best Indie Game” nomination
Taipei Game Show Indie Game Award 2022 (nominations for now)
“Best Visual Art”
“Best Innovation”
Upcoming Pad Update!
The work on the game has not ended. While I was developing port on Nintedo Switch testing the game with gamepad was pretty fun, so that option will come also to PC! Some minor changes also will come along the way!

Papetura Soundtrack and Artbook Released!
Hey Everyone,
OST and Artbook are finally available on Steam as DLC!
It took a while to gather all the materials for the Artbook, and present them in a nice way. It contains over hundred sketchbook pages of early ideas, unused concepts, game assets, paper model plans, game design ideas and many more sketches collected over 7 years of the game development.
Together with Artbook, I'm releasing 36 minute Papetura Original Soundtrack from acclaimed composer and musician Floex. Together with 2 bonus tracks!
01 - Papetura Intro 02 - The Light 03 - Branches 04 - Hollow 05 - In Prison 06 - Cave Pond 07 - The Edge Of Light 08 - Pape And Tura 09 - Chambers + 2 Bonus tracks
I hope you will enjoy listening and watching both!
For last months I've been working on Papetura major update, and it's finally here! The main goal was to move the game to the latest version of the engine, and by doing this, resolve many issues with game not running properly. This was also an opportunity to improve many things in Papetura, from visuals to audio, I went over everything one more time.
Here it is, the changelog: - Game engine update - fixed issue with Citrix drivers collision, and possibility to more precisely diagnose crashes. - Improved/fixed some visuals, animations and sounds. - Image is more crisp, reduced chromatic aberration a little bit. - Added characters reactions to projectile hits. - Increased player walk speed over longer distances. - Monster chase puzzle is getting easier with more tries. - Dropped support for all 32bit MacOS (due to engine update) - Other minor bugs & fixes
Have a good time playing or replaying the game! <3
PS: If you encounter some game crashes after the update, please try to reinstall the game. Steam updater may unfortunately break some things..
Warm Welcome and Upcoming Updates
Hey Everyone,
It's been a month since the game's release, so it's time for some news! How has the game been received, how are sales going, and what is the future of Papetura?
Release
Let me start with a Big Thank You to everyone, because the game was very warmly received by you. Summing up, Papetura turned out to be a nice, interesting experience, but quite short with flaws. Waiting for your reviews was terrifying, I knew that I am not a game design master and I still have a lot to learn. In the end, I was very surprised and comforted that most of the players liked the game. I read all your comments and I know that some things I can still improve, but unfortunately some of them I will not able to.
I think the whole experience of designing, developing and publishing the game was amazing. Many years have passed and I have learned quite a lot, I met many interesting and passionate people. On the other hand, it's good that the release of the game is behind me, it was really a crazy idea..
Upcoming Update
I am currently improving some of Papetura gameplay elements, those that are unclear or could be made better. As for bugs, there were some and I'm still looking for them. Thanks to you, in the first week, we uncovered some important ones! The game requires an update of the game engine, so script by script I move them over to a newer version to remove errors from the old engine. I have tremendous need to get rid of every bug in the game, so hopefully I can do it.
Artbook And Soundtrack
At the same time, I'm working on an artbook, collecting all the materials I have, sketches, photos and screenshots. It will be arranged reasonably so that you can see how everything was created and how many things weren't used in the game. Such an artbook with a soundtrack will soon be available as a DLC for purchase on Steam!
Sales
When I was creating a game, year after year, I stopped calculating how much profit it would bring. I realized why I make Papetura and why it is not worth counting on a lot of money when making such an personal and experimental game. I thought it would be a great success if the game would sold 10,000 copies in one year.
I am pleased to tell you that the game is on the right track to get such a result! During the first and most important week, 6,500 players bought the game! Which sounds promising for the coming year.
Future
In addition to the updates and the artbook, I also work on the Switch port for Papetura. My devkit has arrived so I'll try my hand at getting the game up and running on Switch! Also, who know what future will bring.. Maybe another game?
Thanks again for such a warm welcome! I will try to make better and better games!
Paper is Alive! Papetura is Released!
Hey Everyone,
After 6 years of development Papetura is finally out! From the start I want to thank you all for the patience and support <3. The game way delayed many times, but not this time. During final weeks Tomas, Juraj and me were focused strongly only on the game finalisation so marketing might be lacking, but we are happy that the game turned out to be ready for the release.
Said that, I think we will continue to make the game a little better with following updates. I've done a couple of mini updates sneakily based on you feedback and bugs reports, and I will continue to do that if some new are found. We are greatly happy that initial feedback from you is positive! It seems that average playtime of the game is around 2 hours, which is nice. It might seem too little for that long development, but it just shows that making the game this way is just insane if playtime is a priority.
Soon we will also release Soundtrack together with Artbook. I would like to make the artbook to show the story of development, all behind the scenes photos and artworks. It might take around two weeks to gather all the materials in a nice way. I hope you will like it.
Thank you again to you all, It's been a long journey,
It's been a while since last update, and I have many news to share with you all!
The Demo
First demo of Papetura was released on Summer Steam Festival! I decided not to take it down after the festival, so you can try it out anytime. We can call it 'short experience' for now, as it is very short, but you can feel the atmosphere of the paper world.. The whole game won't be that short, please don't worry! I've recently speedrun the game and it took 70min, so usual play-through should take around 2h or more.
Realese Date
Unfortunately, Papetura will be delayed a little bit.. Mostly due to delays in development, that are dependent on my well being - as I'm the one making the game, there is no chance for someone to take over. I was also overwhelmed by my main job that I live from, but decided that making the game should be priority for now. There is a little bit more to do, so together with Floex, we decided that the safest release date will be February '21. I'm sorry to all of you that are tired of waiting for the game!
Development
First of all, I'm noob when it comes to game industry, but hopefully many people are willing to help and give some advice, so that way the development is moving forward without big mistakes - except of course - dreadful delays.
Second of all, saying about the things I might be better at - making the paper model. It's going very well, and I will have it done in the next month. After that I'll focus only on polishing the gameplay, cause I have all of the prototype build already!
Final thing, that makes the paper-world comes to life is music, and from what I've listened to will be very special. Among tracks, there are two that make me cry, and one that cheer me up! Tomas Dvorak is influencing the game in big and positive way, so great thanks to him!
Thank you for your patience! Tomasz
Release Date!
I'm sorry to announce to you all that the game release will be delayed to Summer 2020!
It wasn't planned, but the production went a little bit sideways, and the game needs more work to be most enjoyable and beautiful..
As we are a small team, Floex making the soundtrack, Juraj Mravec making SFX, and me doing visuals and programming, we have decided it would be the best to delay the release date rather than presenting you with the game that isn't yet finished.
To be honest with you, this game is being made with passion and no big money is at stake, so we have no pressure to release something that we are not yest satisfied with..
I'm very sorry and apologize everyone for inconvenience!
I hope you understand, and ask you for a little bit more patience, See you soon in the next update!
Paper Moves... Begins To Live!
Hi Everyone!
A month has passed since Papetura showed up on Steam, so it's the best time to sum up how we are doing, and what's up in the development! Ok, let's begin with some achievements unlocked that I'm very happy to share:
Over 2000 Wishlists and 350 followers!
That one is on you! I'm very grateful for your wishlisting, helping me out in many different ways to spread the word and reach wider audience! Big thanks for all of you! There is still long road ahead but, that's a great start.
New levels and progress
How the development of this game would look like was mysterious to me, but it's basically like: making things as you go. I thought that's the wrong way, but apparently this is how most of indie adventure games are made :D. In the picture above, please meet Flaming Bird, just chilling because I'm working on animating it right now. But please not be fooled, that's quite a furious creature, not chill AT ALL.
Papetura in Press
Many lovely editors and developers were so kind to share and write about Papetura on their portals, I couldn't be more grateful! There is also a new interview that I would like to share with you:
