Park Story v1.0.11.0

Hi all,

This update brings a few new features as well as general quality of life improvements to the things there's been most feedback on.

- Map system improved including zooming in and zooming out
- In-game manual added to the main menu
- In-game tutorials added to early game
- Change made to opening area to make objective clearer
- Small graphics changes designed to improve level readability
- Various performance improvements and small bug fixes

The map improvements and tutorials hopefully make the game a lot easier to grasp from the off.

Thanks for playing!

First Patch! v1.0.10.0

Hey folks,

It took a little longer than planned, but the good news is that the extra time means extra fixes. This initial patch includes a load of QoL fixes including tutorials and enhanced maps.

Work on the game is ongoing. The next patch will have a bit of a focus on performance improvements.

Here's the full list of changes....

Bugs

  • Fixed a section of fencing in the second dungeon that had incorrect collision mapping
  • Fixed a collision mapping issue in the first floor of the third dungeon
  • Fixed an issue when receiving texts from Mum that allowed non-existing text threads to be selected, crashing the game.
  • Fixed an issue where players could get stuck auto-jumping if they attacked as the jump started

Quality of Life Changes

  • The save icon has been swapped out for a more visible save label. The loading label has been removed from loading screens to accommodate this. The version number on the main menu has also moved to avoid text overlapping.
  • A difficulty spike in the last dungeon has been smoothed out, as has one in the Sporting Facilities area.
  • An adjustment has been made to the opening of the game to make it clearer where players need to go.
  • You can now zoom in and out of dungeon maps.
  • Significant changes have been made to the overworld map. The bounds of areas are highlighted even after finding a new map area. Entrances/exits to areas are marked with a new icon. A Quest location icon has been added to show the target destination along the main quest line.
  • Posts in enemy gauntlets only take one hit to destroy now.
  • Tutorial screens have been added to the start of the game to explain some of the key gameplay objects.
  • Adjusted some fox areas to smooth out some difficulty spikes
  • You can now roll up and down stairs (but still not ladders) per player request.
  • A new contextual highlight has been added around to items you can pickup when you approach them.

Steam Deck Compatibility and Next Fest Demo Notes

Hello Steam community ːsteamthumbsupː

It's getting scarily close to October 20th when Park Story will be out in the world. There's a couple of things I wanted to let everyone know about.

Steam Deck Compatibility

Things are still picking up pace with official Valve Steam Deck testing, so it might be a while until the wee cross icon updates to something more useful.

The good news is that Park Story has been tested from start to finish on Steam Deck and works great. The game sets up some default settings when first run and performance wise, it's all good.

As with any new game, there'll be some hiccups but I'm pretty confident that the experience will be great on Steam Deck.

Next Fest Demo Notes

It's Steam Next Fest time again and the Park Story demo is available to play. This is the same demo build that was available during last June's Next Fest.

The game has come a long way since then - particularly when it comes to bugs! Please still stop along to the Discussion pages if you have feedback that you'd like to pass along.

Enjoy Next Fest!

- Martin

Park Story is releasing October 20th after 5 years! Let's chat :)

Saturday stream! Park Story is releasing soon - October 20th! - and there's one more chance to play the demo as part of Steam Next Fest.

This is my second stream of the fest. Please come have a chat while I play through the demo. I'll be talking all about the game's development, what you can expect in the final game and why you, yes YOU, should definitely Wishlist it :)

Park Story is a reimagination of the classic top-down action RPG. It's inspired by classic adventures that often feature a wee guy in a green hat but is doing its own thing too.

Everyone welcome! Come along and say hello.

I've been working on Park Story for 5 years! Let's chat :)

Hey everyone! Park Story is releasing soon - October 20th! - and there's one more chance to play the demo as part of Steam Next Fest.

I'll be playing through the demo and chatting about the development of Park Story. What has it been like to make a game alongside a day job? Why did it take 5 years to make? Stuff like that.

A Second Equally Scottish Dev Demo Playthrough Plus... a Cat!

Hello everyone! I'm Martin, and I'm the developer of Park Story - a very Scottish action RPG. Streaming Sunday, I'll be keeping it chill and playing the demo!

Bonus Meet the Cat segment! In Park Story our hero Parker will meet Domino β€” your guide and a very grumpy cat. He's inspired by my real best wee guy, so I'm going to let you all meet him on the stream! That might last 20 minutes, it might last 2 seconds. Cats, you know. Gotta respect their free will.

πŸ“… Streaming Sun 20th at 7pm GMT | 3pm ET | 12 noon PT

Aside from letting you meet my cat, I'm also going to playthrough the demo of my game, Park Story.

You might not have heard of Park Story before, so what is it?

Park Story is a reimagination of the classic top-down action RPG. It's very much inspired by the adventures of a certain hero with a wee green hat, but takes place in a modern setting with a very human story at its heart.

Nobody is asking you to save the world, or even a kingdom, but you'll need to defeat the demon raven Caim to save yourself.

So, come join the stream and get involved in the chat. The park will be happy to have you, and so will I! Dog people also very welcome.

A Very Scottish Dev Demo Playthrough Plus Q&A

Hello everyone! I'm Martin, and I'm the developer of Park Story - a very Scottish action RPG set in a haunted park. I'll be playing through the demo of the game. Come watch!

I've been working on Park Story for more than 3 years now, and I'm really excited about folks finally getting to play it. Excited with a side of terrified.

We'll laugh, we'll cry, and I'll answer your questions while sharing more about the inspirations for the game. You might not have heard of Park Story before, so what is it?
