Achievements are now LIVE!

Patch v1.05 is here!


I'm pretty sure that many of you have been frustrated that achievements weren't part of the game from the start and I completely understand. The past two years have been filled with things that both held higher priorities than getting the achievements to work on top of things just being in the way. I realized quite early on after the release that I wanted to continue the story in the form of a DLC and it's also had priority over getting this achievement patch out. However, while working on the DLC I ran into a wall and decided to get some extra help from a great friend of mine on something completely different. Thanks to him, the achievements are now FINALLY working and I'm so incredibly excited to let you all know that they are here!

It's almost five o'clock in the morning here as I'm typing this, my eyes are so tired and my brain is mush but I just had to push this patch out! I can't wait! Here are the patch notes in full! It's not that big, but there are some fixes:

Patch Notes



  • Fixed a bug that would sometimes not load the game state properly making the player locked in the crawlspace behind the drawer
  • Ten achievements have been added!
  • Slight change to the blood red visual effect so that it have a smooth ending while in Calvin's room
  • Fixed a few sounds that were not playing while picking up some items


Achievements


So the achievements are pretty straight forward, you can have a look at them if you don't mind getting spoiled! There are two of them that are less descriptive in how you get them so I'm gonna give a few hints in how to get them:

  • Swift As A Cat - In order to make Kevin proud you need to finish the game really fast in one single sitting. No loading! An invisible timer starts when you open the gate at the beginning. You got 20 minutes, so you need to plan your every move! ;) Good luck!
  • Three may keep a secret - There's a secret button somewhere that opens up the ground floor bathroom. I've seen a few people miss this part completely, so it would be interesting to see how many people actually find it!


The rest of the achievements are very straight forward. You should get them by simply playing through and finishing the game! And as always, if you run into any issues, post on the forums! Please try and describe as much as you can about the bug and I hope that I can help out!

So there you have it. Achievements *should* be live right now! In order to unlock the achievements you have to replay the game. Sadly if you're already in the middle of a run, you'd have to restart in order for you to unlock the achievements earlier in the game. I'm gonna see if there's a good fix on that later on!

Temporarily Disabling Achievements!

This is a very small update that is getting rid of the achievements until they are properly fixed!

They might pop up again when I start to work on them. So know that I do care for you who are achievement hunting! Plain and simple: There's something wrong with them, I still have no clue why and I've been trying my best to fix it.

An Award-Winning Horror Game???



The Awards!


I can't believe it. To think that a game that I developed would be nominated, let alone WIN an award is still unreal to me! This Wednesday the AGDAS (Australian Game Developer Awards) was in full motion and I knew I was one of the finalists in the category of Emerging Games. I was talking with Ceri who is a representative of the AGDAs and they pushed me so hard to go and be there live at the ceremony. Sadly, due to economic and personal problems, I could not attend this beautiful show. So that evening I sat on my bum in front of the TV, I prepared myself to watch the whole ceremony live on Twitch!

Technical difficulties. The live broadcast was canceled. I sat in my living room and the only way to get any sort of information from the award show was through my proxy person who was on-site! Through Discord we sent each other messages, and he sent me videos and pictures! Sean, if you read this, you're an absolute LEGEND! We both were joking about how nervous we were, Sean had my thank you speech ready just in case. He was nervous about having to do a speech, I was nervous about the results!

"Two more (categories) then us", "One more." Then he went quiet...

I think about 10 minutes passed and it felt like AGES. Then he responded with two simple words.

"you won"

I couldn't believe it! Sean called me and we both were ecstatic! I had somehow created an award-worthy title for a game!

So basically, with this incredible news, I just want to say... Thank you. To everyone who's been around supporting me with my silly little projects. All the communities that have been the victims of my stupid progress posting! And the biggest thank you is to you, the people who enjoyed the game. I know it's cheesy but without the overwhelming positivity and great feedback from you all, I would not even have thought about applying for the AGDAs in the first place. Seriously, thank you so much.

What now?


So now I'm sitting here... working on the upcoming DLC.

What's that? You haven't heard? Oh, that's right, I haven't posted anything about it here... I'm working on a DLC! I hope that it'll be ready and released around Christmas, so prepare yourselves for a Nightmare before Christmas! Teehee!

Patch v1.04 - New settings and fixes!

Hello everyone!


I know it's been a little while, but it's here! Another patch!

To start things out, I have to admit, I tried to fix the Steam achievements again but with no luck! BAH! I'm gonna have to hire a super-engineer soon so it can get done lol. Ok so let's go to the bigger things in this patch!

The smaller fixes:



  • Sudden Flashes are now ON as standard.
  • The Menu music no longer keeps playing over and over and over and over and over and over...
  • The timed puzzle got a slight increase in time to make it easier
  • VR shouldn't automatically be turned on as default if it senses a VR headset, hopefully.


The BIG ones!



  • SETTINGS ARE NOW AVAILABLE IN-GAME!
  • Mouse sensitivity settings available!
  • Inverted mouse control available!

Patch v1.03 - The Dollhouse Revamp!

Hello there!

Today's patch is a much smaller one than previous patches. This time around these are the changes:

  • Ending flashes fixed
  • Revamped the dollhouse puzzle, hopefully, it will work better from now on
  • Made the chess board chest a little bit more visible

Sadly, still no progression with the achievements. I know a lot of you are asking for it but I am swamped with things going on in my life right now and I just like to rest at the end of the day lol.

Patch v1.02 is here!

Apologies in advance, sometimes these patches seem to be real doofuses (doofi?) and mess with certain information in people's save files. If something feels wrong when you load your game, it might mean that you have to start over :< I’m still looking into a possible solution to this recurring problem! I believe the big thing for the next patch will be achievements. I feel like I’m getting so close to getting it to work, but who knows?

With that said, here’s the new patch!




  • - Chess pieces are no longer YEETable
  • - Increased volume/attenuation values for the speakers, so you can hear his beautiful voice better
  • - Fixed a save bug where the game would save on load
  • - You are no longer able to pick up the following items: A big Tunnel Gate, an entire Kitchen and somebody's Front Door
  • - You are now able to pick up the following items: Tunnel Gate Key, Kitchen Key and Front Door Key
  • - Changed one of the end-triggers to be a bit bigger than a silly piano
  • - You can no longer be trapped forever behind wooden bars (with plenty of space, mind you) in the statue room. Silly!


New accessibility settings are available!


After painfully having to watch my ignorance play before me as a person with accessibility needs crawled through the game despite the pain, I just had to work on this immediately. Thank you @Lawryn_W for reminding me how important these features are! I had it written down to add these features prior to the stream, but watching it *really* showed me how important they are! So they became a priority for this patch! Again, thank you!


  • - Three different settings for colour blindness available!
    • - Deuteranope, Protanope and Tritanope. Thank you Epic for having them built in!
    • - You can change the severity of each one with a slider as well

  • - You can turn off sudden flashes for those who are sensitive to that!
  • - 30 frame rate is now a choice


Partum Artifex v1.01 Patch

The first-ever patch for Partum Artifex is here! I'm gonna be honest, there's not too much going on in this patch but a few minor changes:

  • Fixed blueprint texture in the shed
  • Added more hints related to the clock puzzle
  • Implemented new sounds and replaced some old item sounds
  • Added some missing subtitles
  • Some notes contain more information related to puzzles
  • Spelling mistakes (there are plenty left to fix)

After so much work, so much support and help from friends and family... Partum Artifex is now finally released! I hope that it will be an enjoyable experience for you all, don't hesitate to be honest with your feedback if you have any!

Looking for content creators!

Partum Artifex is looking for content creators!



As the game is creeping closer and closer to release (the date will be revealed soon, I promise!) we're now looking for content creators that would love a free copy of the game!

It's very straightforward, you need to fill in this form. That's it. Then I will do my absolute best to go through the entire list and send off keys when we're getting close to the release date!

What the form contains


To make it very transparent, I'm doing it this way because as of right now, I'm doing this all by myself, so this felt like the easiest way to go about it! The form is only looking for:

  • Your alias online (not real name if you don't feel comfortable sharing it)
  • Your email (it'll be the way I contact you with a key)
  • A quick description of yourself (an extra step that will hopefully filter out some that are just looking for free keys, hehe)
  • Me asking how you found out about the game (not even obligatory to answer that one)!


I also want to apologize for the lack of updates or announcements here on Steam. It's been a few stressful months with various problems with development but we're finally getting close!

We're finally here!


After about half a year since the Adventurous Game Jam, Partum Artifex is finally on Steam!

For those who wonder, I've been working on the game constantly ever since the game jam, implementing much more content and adding a whole bunch of technical quality of life bits (like saving & loading!). I'm so excited to share this with you as it will make it much easier for me to guide people to a more professional platform and hype people up for the full release!

With this announcement, I'm also releasing the first teaser trailer to the world! Please have a look and see what you think:
