Pathfinder: Kingmaker

Update 2.0.6 - July 22, 2019

We have analyzed the latest reported crashes and concluded that in most cases the problem is connected to the capes’ physics. The issue is tricky, as we are unable to recreate it on the testing machines yet. Thus, we do not have estimates for the solid fix. Meanwhile, we added an option to disable the cloth physics. We recommend trying this option for those of pathfinders who experience problems with game crashes.

Please be aware of plot spoilers in the description below.

  • In the Capital Inn, in some circumstances, players could meet Jubilost and start a dialogue related to The Door to Nowhere quest ahead of time. Resolution: fixed.
  • After players have explored the Blackstones Ford map, they can stay in that area to collect the loot and exit when they feel like it.
  • After a player starts investigating the Season of Bloom quest line and talks to Kesten, the Second Breath quest fails if it was not completed before.
  • During the first romance scene with Kanerah, her sister Kalikke could be present in the room. Resolution: fixed.
  • At the House at the Edge of Time, in rare cases Jaethal could be missing, thus making it impossible to save her and Tristian from Nyrissa. Resolution: fixed. However, the saved games with this issue cannot be fixed. The solution is to load the saved game before the cutscene with Nyrissa, Tristian, and Jaethal.
  • Fixed an issue when the dialogue with the mite failed to start in the Turncoats quest (Linzi’s second quest).
  • Once again fixed the issue when the mercenary advisors sometimes failed to resolve kingdom events.
  • The Letter from Jamandi Aldori kingdom event failed to complete if the baron did not appear in the Throne Room after the letter arrived and before The Lost Relic quest has been completed. Resolution: fixed.
  • Fixed the issue when the kingdom event related to the Economy rank increase failed to activate.
  • After killing Tartuccio in the Old Sycamore dungeon, sometimes the player could not exit the room where the fight occurred. Resolution: fixed. The saved games with this issue have been fixed as well.
  • In the Capital Square, the character could sometimes get stuck in the Palace. Resolution: fixed.
  • In DLC 2, in the Cultists' Shrine, when you exit to the Global Map and load an autosave to get back to the cave, the exit icon could disappear. Resolution: fixed. The saved games with this issue have been fixed as well.
  • When finishing Chapter 6, players without DLC 1 (The Wildcards) encountered an empty page about Kalikke and Kanerah in Epilogues. Resolution: fixed.
  • The Bomber's Eye spell didn't work. Resolution: fixed.
  • The Legendary Proportions spell had an incorrect type of bonus to AC. Resolution: fixed.
  • Flaming Burst Adamantine Dwarven Urgrosh +3 and Lycanthrope Bane Disruption Club +3 did not have Disruption. Resolution: fixed.
  • Skin of the Rough Beast had incorrect sounds, ability visuals and an ability, which affected not only enemies. Resolution: fixed.
  • Ring of Circumstances now correctly resumes to give its bonuses after resting.
  • Briar did not have the information on game mechanics. Resolution: fixed.
  • Gyronna's Amulet had an incomplete description. Resolution: fixed.
  • In the standalone version in DLC 3, Stone to Flesh scrolls have been added to the Dragon’s goods.
  • The Judgemental Gaze headgear gave a bonus to Intelligence instead of Wisdom. Resolution: fixed.
  • Boggards’ idle animation start has been randomized.
  • When you right-click the class in the level up / character generation interface, the feature progression was displayed incorrectly falling behind by one level. Resolution: fixed.
  • An option to disable the cloth physics has been added.
  • Our heartfelt thanks to our backers and the epileptic seizure warning have been brought back to the Russian version.
  • The soundtrack is updated. Added two new themes to the DLC Varnhold's Lot.

A friendly reminder: while we deeply admire the contribution that mod authors make to our game, we would like you to remember that running custom modifications can lead to unexpected bugs and crashes. Unfortunately, if you encounter any issues while playing with mods, our team will not be able to help you. If this happens, please report these issues to the mod's original creator. Also, remember that after each game update, there is a high probability of previously installed mods not functioning properly. If you wish to play with mods anyway, disabling auto-updates might prevent your save files from becoming corrupted.

A player survey! Dungeons, dungeons and more dungeons!

Historically, there is such a deep connection between RPGs and dungeons, that sometimes it seems there couldn't be an RPG without one. There are many dungeons in the Pathfinder: Kingmaker, even if not count the DLC "Beneath the Stolen Lands".
We decided to make a new survey to know what you like and what you hate about dungeons in our game. The dungeon you dream of — what is it like?

Update 2.0.5 - June 21, 2019

Please be aware of plot spoilers in the description below!

  • When loading old saves, players did not receive Crisis Points. Resolution: fixed.
  • When loading a pre-Enhanced Edition save in which Ekundayo has left, some players could find his pet uncontrollable when the ranger returned. Resolution: fixed for both old saves and games where this has already happened.
  • Fixed the hanging up issue when trying to rest with a charged spell of the healing touch type.
  • Custom portraits sometimes got deleted. Resolution: when a player loads a saved game with custom portraits, folders are created with the names that correspond to the portrait identifiers.
  • Players who reached floor 50 of the Endless Dungeon could have noticed that the enemy difficulty stopped to increase. That turned out to be true: we never imagined that there would be heroes capable of going so deep! The enemies suffered under the players’ onslaught and reported lots of bugs using F11. They asked and we listened! We’ve strengthened them on floor 51 and beyond.
Players who are currently on floors below 50 should expect a leap in difficulty: monsters have gained strengths and they’ll try to strike back fiercely. Stay alert and remember: losing a battle does not mean losing the war! (And you can always let your hero retire.)
  • In Tenebrous Depths, players encountered subtasks of type "Our descent was halted by a shroud of darkness. We must wait until it disperses." even if there were no shroud of darkness. Such subtasks failed to complete when the shroud of darkness disappeared. Resolution: fixed.
  • In rare cases, when you followed the Betrayer's Flight quest to Candlemere Tower, there could be neither Tristian nor an active portal. Resolution: fixed.
  • In the main game, in Tenebrous Depths VI, one of the enemy groups incorrectly consisted of 6 Wild Hunt Archers. Resolution: fixed.
  • One of the endings of the Heroes' Fate quest in Lostlarn Keep could get stuck in the main game after the saved game conversion if the DLC General was female. Resolution: fixed. To fix the issue, load the saved game before entering the dungeon.
  • The Cloudkill buff in traps in the Vordakai Tomb had no visible text. Resolution: fixed.
  • In the battle with the Everblooming Flower in the Other World, you can now rest and recover after the battle before you teleport to the Womb of Lamashtu.
  • Now you can speak to Kobold Artist in the Troll Liar only once.
  • The Spawn of Rovagug had the Chaotic Neutral alignment. Resolution: fixed to the Chaotic Evil alignment.
  • Even the smallest goblin alchemists now can throw bombs.
  • Classes: Mind Fog had an incorrect duration description. Resolution: fixed.
  • The description of Sage Sorcerer has been expanded to clarify the features of this archetype.
  • Names and descriptions of some Wild Hunt Archer abilities were missing. Resolution: fixed.
  • Abilities: Coup De Grace no longer ignores Fortification.
  • Items from Tristian’s dead body were looted incorrectly. Resolution: fixed. You cannot interact with the corpse to loot it; instead, Tristian’s equipment is looted automatically after his death.
  • Items: Cloak Of Inner Warmth had an abnormally low price. Resolution: fixed.
  • Items: Frost Rapier +1 from the Honest Guy had an incorrect price. Resolution: fixed.
  • Items: Flaming Gnome Hooked Hammer +1 had a corrosive enchantment. Resolution: fixed.
  • Items: Gloves of Dexterity +2 had an incorrect price. Resolution: fixed.
  • Audio: the Sartayne's House had no audio scenes. Resolution: fixed.

Update 2.0.4 - June 17, 2019

Please be aware of plot spoilers in the description below!

  • DLC3: some secret rooms were impossible to get into even after the player had detected the room and opened the door. Resolution: fixed.
  • A trap in Tenebrous Depths XIV could not be disarmed. Resolution: fixed
  • The respec caused Jaethal to lose the ability to wield the scythe. This happened when the respec was used on Jaethal no longer worshiping Urgathoa. Resolution: fixed.
  • The Slayer could take the Ranger Combat Style feat at every level. Resolution: fixed.
  • If the player completed Season of Bloom before the Enhanced Edition and loaded the saved game in Enhanced Edition with the Magical Lantern equipped on their character, they had two identical lantern abilities, one of which failed to disappear after the item was de-equipped. Resolution: fixed; now the redundant ability disappears when the player enters the Throne Room.
  • Both Kanerah and Kalikke were present inside the house at the Capital Square at the same time. Resolution: fixed.
  • After you killed the Spawn of Rovagug once, you could try fighting it again by showing your loot from the dungeon’s boss monsters to the dragon, which resulted in a broken cutscene. Now there is no such option: you can only kill the Spawn of Rovagug once in the plot dungeon.
  • At Technic League Encampment, the final dialogue with Kalannah could have been terminated early with no way to resume it. Resolution: fixed by adding an option to resume the dialogue with Kalannah.
  • In some cases, mercenary advisors could fail to resolve the rank-up events. Resolution: fixed.
  • Items: wands with cantrips were worth 0 gold. Resolution: fixed.
  • Items: Throwing Axes behaved like a melee weapon. Resolution: fixed.
  • Audio: some Linux users experienced sound issues. Resolution: fixed.
  • When you loaded an autosave, some modifiers were incorrectly applied to enemies multiple times. Resolution: multiple modifiers are no longer applied. Most extra modifiers have been removed from the game saves that already had this error; however, it may not be possible to clear all the effects completely.

Developers’ Diary: the Kingdom Reforms

Hi there! The Enhanced Edition is finally here, and we hope that you’ve already dug your teeth into it and that you like what you’re seeing. Nonetheless, there remains one important aspect of the game that we haven’t covered in these diaries yet. Today we would like to focus on kingdom management.

Our “vanilla” kingdom management system has found some supporters among the players, but not all of you liked it. As time went on, we’ve received many suggestions and criticisms from you. We kept fine-tuning the way kingdom management works with every big patch, and as such, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that we’ve prepared a new pack of improvements for the Enhanced Edition as well.

No Intermediaries

Let us start with a small, but important improvement – now you will be able to buy BP right from the kingdom interface! Hassuf might be a bit disappointed that you won’t be visiting him just as much, but this will make playing significantly more comfortable. From now on, all you need to do to restock your treasury is to open the kingdom stats window.

The Retinue Plays the King

The advisors… We still receive quite a lot of comments from you saying there aren’t enough advisors in the game. Our goal has always been to give our players a chance to make meaningful choices, choices that actually matter. Choosing an advisor was supposed to be one of those difficult, but ultimately entertaining parts of the game. You do your best to pick the ideal candidate for the role: someone who can get the job done, but also fits your style of leadership. However, this can be quite tricky, and at times even outright impossible – which is why sometimes you compromise and give the position to someone who’s not a good match for you as a person, but will greatly benefit the kingdom. This is a significant, meaningful choice, but sometimes it can be unpleasant and, as it turns out, even unacceptable to some players. Also, it is far too hard to play without any advisors on some of the key roles, especially when playing for the first time - this can easily cripple a kingdom. Therefore, by popular demand, we’ve decided to allow appointing mercenaries for government roles. They are not quite the same as your usual advisors, however. A mercenary is not as effective as other advisors: they have a lower base chance of successfully resolving an event. At the same time, a mercenary can use magical items to increase their stats (only your companions were able to do that before). They are not very talkative and they tend to select the most neutral option in each rank-up event if there is one.

Knowing the Consequences

Speaking of advisors and rank-ups, from now on, you’ll be able to see what effect your choices during any given rank-up event will have. While making the game, we wanted our players to make kingdom choices without knowing all of the consequences, letting their heart and morals guide them instead. In practice, it resulted in discomfort and prompted players to load to a previous save after an unfortunate choice. We decided to change that. Now you will be able to see the effects of your decisions in advance, so that you can make a responsible choice.

All is Quiet in the Kingdom

Unrest has proven to be one of the most problematic kingdom mechanics. To address that, we’ve attempted to make the reasons behind rising unrest clearer – you can now read about any changes in the unrest log. Also, story events that often lead to rising unrest will now tell you how to deal with them. Last but not least, we’ve added more ways to influence the current unrest level: firstly, throwing a feast became cheaper at 200 BP (however, each time you use it the price will rise to 200, 400, 600 and so on). Secondly, each Stability rank-up event will lower kingdom unrest by one step.

Events

Finally, let’s talk some more about kingdom events. We’ve made multiple UI improvements in that area – for example, now you can see which events have already been assigned an advisor. Some of the advisors can resolve certain events better than others, and before, the only way to find out was to browse through all of the available options. Now this information is at hand: you can see it on the advisor’s card at any time. Sometimes, your kingdom can be struck by an especially devastating event, and earlier you had no way to respond to that as a ruler. From now on, there is an instrument you can use in a pinch – we’ve named them Crisis Points. You earn them as your kingdom grows, that is, with every new rank-up. You can also buy a limited amount of such points from Hassuf. These points can be used to get a single-shot bonus to successfully resolve an event – and, possibly, to deal with a catastrophe that would have otherwise been beyond your advisor’s abilities.

Yours faithfully,
Owlcats.

Update on the Digital RPG Adventure Module

Dear Pathfinders,

Many of you have asked us about the status of the Chris Avellone’s digital RPG adventure reward, and we’re happy that we finally have some news for you!
We’ve reached a new important milestone. After multiple drafts and much back-and-forth between Chris, Paizo and us Owlcats, we’ve all decided that the manuscript is of high enough quality to begin closed playtesting! We’ve recruited a number of playgroups from you, our audience, and we’ve sent out copies of the adventure module. We believe that testing early is very important, and getting feedback before everything is set in stone can drastically improve the end result. For those of you who are participating, we’d like to stress that this is an early draft that is still far from its final, Paizo-approved state – we just collectively decided that we want to hear your thoughts on this.
We are sorry that it took us so long to reach this stage. The task has proven to be more difficult than initially expected, and we want to make sure that this adventure lives up to the fame of the original “Kingmaker” AP. However, we promise things will pick up from now on. Stay tuned for more news in the near future!

Sincerely,
Your Owlcats
