Endgame screen, Plague XP, Coins & more!

What's new?



This is the first content update for Pathogen, a very necessary one for what is about to come! The next updates will include a shop and a "Gene" system for upgrading your plagues. This is the first step for accomplishing that, as now, you will be able to earn coins and XP for playing games!

Also, I improved some learning aspects of the game to make it easier for new players. Let's take a look!

The Endgame screen



The main new feature of the update is the "Endgame screen". In this screen, you will earn rewards based on your performance on the game.

Earn XP for future Gene unlocks





The best way of getting Plague XP is by playing games. The more time played with your plague, the more XP you will earn at the end of the game. Currently, each plague type has a maximum level of 5. Your player level is all of your plague levels combined.

Earn coins for future game shop





You can earn coins by playing games, but the fastest way is by making achievements like completing a tutorial or challenge for the fist time. These coins will be used in a future shop.

Get a score based on your performance





After all rewards are shown, you will get a score based on your performance on the game.

Tutorial and learning improvements



Tutorials were hard to follow, especially the Main tutorial. That's why one of the main goals of this update was trying to improve this!



Now, when the Main tutorial requires you to press a button, this button will be highlighted. Also, extra instructions are added on the top of the screen in case you missed something in the dialogues. I hope this will make things easier :)

Also, when trying to perform invalid actions, an error message explaining why that's not possible will appear, making the game a lot less confusing.

BALANCE CHANGES



  • Reduced the cost of the Radion special upgrade tree
  • Increased infectious radiation effectiveness
  • Infecting during a flag event now always set its outbreak to max
  • Starting on a flag now sets its outbreak to max
  • Black death nerfed/reworked
  • Active infections produce twice the outbreak as before
  • Fixed a bug where you could start an empty tutorial by not selecting one
  • Units no longer lose pathogens when entering a flag

Early Access release and future updates

Finally, Pathogen got released, after 3 years of development!

This is the absolute first version of the game, so many bugs and bad stuff are expected, especially on multiplater. Please, when you find any bugs, report them on the "Bug reports" forum on Steam discussions.

My plans for future updates are (subject to change):

  • First updates prioritizing major bugs, then minor bugs, and improving gameplay aspects according to feedback from the community. Also adding Challenges.
  • When the game gets to a better state, the update for the Prion, a new regular plague type.
  • An update adding some type of in-game currency and a shop to use that currency (don't worry, no in-app purchases). Also, small additions based on feedback from the community.
  • Finally, the update including the 3rd superplague. This will conclude the Early Access roadmap.

Please, remember the game is in Early Access, so im really open to suggestions. I really want to focus my development on listening my community. I want to make a game that everyone can enjoy :)

1.7.6.2 sorry for disappearing so long

Since the game released the early access version, I went out for a while, the computer is a bit old, and the network is not very good, so it take a long time to give feedback to everyone, I am very sorry.
At present, I have fixed bugs, and I will gradually update the game. However, since I have been at home for more than a year, I may starve to death at this state, so I will not put full energy in updating, so the frequency of updates should not be as high as planned, but I will never abandon my game..
