Pirates of the Polygon Sea

Patch 0.1.6 – YARRR! Thar She Blows Cap’n!

Something large and dark rises from the deep. It gets closer, and closer, and closer...

*Boop*

It rams into your ship’s starboard bow with all the ferocity of a wet bag of kittens.

“Oh… it’s a harbour whale. Deckman Morris, grab me that harpoon over there, the town’s gonna eat well tonight!”

Welcome to patch 0.1.6, where the Leviathan’s smaller, more peaceful cousins have invaded the Mythic Isles – you will now find numerous whale species roaming the game world.

The addition of these gentle giants further contributes to a more vibrant, living/breathing world, while also forming a basis for further aquatic creature additions and iterations.

Whales can be hunted for food by enterprising ship captains, but be warned... one takes up the harpoon of a whale hunter at their own risk, for the Leviathan is rumored not to take kindly to the wanton killing of his brethren…

New Content

  • Thar She Blows! – Whales now added to the world.

General Improvements

  • Re-balanced spawn chance of all enemy ships and hostile creatures making tougher enemies spawn much later in the game.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug where the fog of war could be dragged away from the map, revealing anything below it. Oops.

Patch 0.1.5 - New Visitors

TREMBLE AND DESPAIR YE SALTY DOGS! Dreadbeard the cursed pirate has come to the Mythic Isles to burn, pillage, and drink all yer rum!

He’s not alone, however. Rumor has it that the famous monster hunter Jaerax Vade has been spotted in these waters, searching for the most fearsome beasts in the Mythic Isles to slay and add to his trophy collection.

In the wake of these two savage and brutal captains roaming the waters, Emelynn, the daughter of the former governor has returned to the isles to avenge her father’s fate and reclaim her birthright as governess. Only time will tell if she is successful…

The people of the Mythic Isles have also not been idle. In an effort to make the Mythic Isles more livable, a burgeoning timber and fishing industry has cropped up amongst the towns here in an effort to feed and house the increasing numbers of new settlers that arrive every day.

As we continue working on multiplayer, we are pushing out patch 0.1.5 in the meanwhile to add some new content to the game. Enjoy plying the waves as (or facing) three all-new characters: Dreadbeard, Jaerax, and Emelynn.

It’s a brave new world out there Swashbucklers, full of new friends and deadly foes… beware.

New Content

  • Dreadbeard, the Cursed Pirate – Now available as a playable character.
  • Jaerax, the Monster Hunter – Now available as a playable character.
  • Emelynn, the Governor’s Daughter – Now available as a playable character.
  • New Fishing Hut Building that generates food now available for construction.
  • New Lumber Mill Building that generates wood now available for construction.

Ahoy swashbucklers!

We wanted to give everyone an update on what's happening behind the scenes on Pirates of the Polygon Sea development.

Now that the shark week, ship names, pirate AI, and balance patches are behind us, we are shifting gears towards tackling the larger additions to our game: adding multiplayer, including more playable characters, incorporating additional ship abilities, installing a new victory system, and unleashing fearsome, never before seen aquatic beasts into the Mythic Sea!

Due to the large amount of development time and testing required for the inclusion of these game elements, we will be switching from smaller weekly patches to larger monthly patches.

We want to make sure we do as good a job as we possibly can with these new additions (while not breaking anything), so we are going to take our time to do it right.

Thanks again to everyone who is playing, giving feedback, and supporting us – you are an integral part of this game’s creation.

We welcome you to sail with us as we embark upon this new phase of development and hope to find you upon the high seas discovering long-lost treasures, fighting fearsome sharks, battling dastardly pirates, and fleeing whatever new nautical horrors the Mythic Sea has in store within the coming months...

YAHARRR!

Patch 0.1.4 – Balance Changes & NPC Ship Names!

What’s that? The pirates are running rampant, pillaging and plundering player hopes and dreams (and bodies) with reckless abandon?

Yeah, ok. We’ve heard you, let’s uhh... tone that down a bit.
This week’s patch is relatively simple as we tweak pirate difficulty and increase shark damage (poor Megalodon and the King Shark were hitting about as fiercely as newborn kittens).

Also, the island nations of the Mythic sea have finally organized their defensive forces into a unified navy! The proud defence force composed of commissioned Island Military Ships (IMS) has taken to the waters to defend the honest folk for the ravages of pirate scum!

Not to be outdone, the pirates have similarly named their ships... for intimidation purposes of course.

Naturally, the bounty hunters and merchants have followed suit, mostly so they were not left out of this whole “vessel naming” thing...

Happy sailing!

New Content

  • Island Military Ships – All island naval ships now have unique vessel names.
  • Pirate, bounty hunter, and merchant vessels now have unique names.

Balance Changes

  • Toned town pirate difficulty.
  • Increased damage on a number of sharks.
  • Reduced the cost to clear island resources (rocks/trees).

General Improvements

  • Mission names have been further diversified and expanded.

Update 0.1.3 - Revenge of the Pirates!

Alright landlubbers! You’ve shot them, burned them, and abused their inability to navigate rocks.

The pirates have had enough, ENOUGH I SAY!

After a productive (and very drunken) meeting at the Blackfort, the pirates of the Mythic sea have discussed at length their battle tactics, ship manoeuvers, and PROPER NAVIGATION OF THE THRICE-DAMNED ROCKS and have now returned to the sea as a force to be reckoned with!

… Also, they have discovered the ability to use fire. Like cavemen. Angry, drunken, cutlass-wielding cavemen.

Good luck.

New Content

  • Pirates can now use fire shot.
  • Floating debris now spawn in the world that can be claimed for resources.

Balance Changes

  • Fixed a bug where extra character portraits appeared in victory screen.

Update 0.1.2 - Ship Names!

Ahoy swashbucklers! Patch 0.1.2 is now live! This patch focuses on a variety of bug fixes, a few AI improvements, and most importantly: adds fully customizable player ship names!

You may now dub your ship anything you wish, from the mighty “Kraken Slayer” to the humble “New Hope IV,” to… I dunno, “Boaty McBoatface” or something. It’s your ship, name it whatever you want.

Weirdo.

  • Fixed a bug where the name of some islands didn’t show up on the map after their discovery.
  • Fixed a bug that sometimes prevented AI ships from reaching certain islands.

Update 0.1.1 - Shark Week!

Our first patch is live! We've listened to your feedback and have been hard at work fixing bugs and making improvements. This first patch focuses on adjusting early game balance, enhancing the UI, extending mission time limits, and generally improving the pirate mode experience.

Finally… you’ve all met him, you all know him, you’ve all been bitten, rammed, and (probably) sunk by him. Megalodon is proud to introduce a new generation of sharks he’s been training to take up his mantle as ship biters, survivor circlers, and general aquatic menaces. As for himself, Megalodon has been pumping some serious iron – you won’t see him around as often, but when you do, you will know who the TRUE king of the sea is…

  • 5 unique shark species added to the world with varying abilities, looks, and behaviours.
  • Megalodon has evolved…

Balance Changes

  • Can no longer go into negative gold.
  • Increased income generated from buildings by 100%.
  • Increased mission time limit to 5 minutes.
  • Attacking bounty hunters no longer increases your skull rating.
  • Reduced delay before skull rating starts decaying to 30 seconds.
  • Reduced the frequency of high level pirates at the beginning of the game.
  • Maximum building count increased for each fort level.

General Improvements

  • HUD changes to move most actions and information to the bottom center of the screen and to make some mechanics clearer.
  • Maximum building count in your city is now displayed in the city info screen.
  • Cities will now replace old missions if they haven’t been accepted in a while.
