This week we’re going to take a look at consumables, and why you may not want to leave home without them. At times, a player could be tempted to overlook consumables as not being worthwhile, but that is far from the case in Pixel Privateers. Consumable items offer a variety of help, ranging from healing, to stasis fields, to automatic reloading, even items that will deal damage to nearby enemies. These items provide extra assistance when waiting on abilities and skills to cool down, and can be a game changer if you need to rescue multiple squad members, and your medic is using a single-target heal.
In your inventory, you can view tool tips which explain the purpose of your consumables, and what they will do for you. After arriving on the planet, you can then equip them to your hotbar for easy access. You can swap out which consumables will be available on the hotbar by clicking the arrow above each slot. Additionally, in the heat of battle, items such as hyper wound gel will populate above your character as available skills, allowing you to pull a squad member from the brink with a single click.
Managing your consumables will be an important aspect of gameplay, and burning them too quickly can leave you in a situation where your squad will perish. To avoid this, keeping an eye on the number of each type of consumable you have with you is very helpful. The quantity is always displayed for you in the lower right corner of the item’s icon. Should you find your inventory bursting at the seams with consumables that don’t fit your play style or that you no longer want, they can be broken down for matter as with other items, or sold off at the market.
Before charging into battle on your next world, it pays to check your arsenal of consumables and be sure you’re ready for whatever you find on the surface! Thanks as always for reading, and we’ll see you next time for QD News!
QD News - Form Up, Privateers!
Greetings, Privateers!
Things have certainly been busy for us here at the studio as we ramp up toward the launch of Pixel Privateers, and get ready to deliver this game to our eagerly awaiting community! This week, I want to talk a little about formations, and how they affect your squad as you play. The placement of your squad members can make the difference between living and dying, so it’s something to be aware of as you adventure through the galaxy.
As one might suspect, some members of your team, such as medics, can be more vulnerable to physical attack. Typically, you would stat them for maximum healing effect, to best support the team. This means they would have less health and strength. Conversely, a vanguard would be more typically stated as a tank class, and be heavy on strength and stamina. To best utilize this strength, you will likely want your vanguard at the front of the squad, where he is first into battle and can protect other members of the squad.
Formations are adjustable in several ways. Firstly, you can drag and drop their icons in the upper left hand corner of your UI. This allows you to select where a character will fall in formation. If you use a square formation, for example, you might move your vanguards or marines to the first slots, so that they are on the front line. Secondly, you can adjust the shape of the formation. This allows you to further determine who will see action first. A spearhead formation with a vanguard in the front slot would have him be the first to be attacked, and the first to do the attacking. Lastly, you can adjust how tight or loose the formation is, with a slider. If you’re expecting heavy resistance and you need everyone to stay close to the medics, you’d use a tighter formation. To weed out enemies in advance of your weaker members arriving, you’d use a looser formation.
Paying close attention to formation is one of several tactical elements to Pixel Privateers, which puts you more closely in control of your team. In this way you are best prepared to face the dangers awaiting you on the planets’ surfaces. As always, thanks for reading, and we’ll see you next time for more QD News!

QD News - Classy Edition!
Greetings, Privateers!
The dust is settling after the big launch trailer announcement, and things are moving right along here at the studio. This week, we’re gonna take a look at the choices you have available to you for classes. The combination you choose can make quite a difference in the way your squad takes on different situations. The classes in Pixel Privateers are as follows:
Vanguard: Your vanguard is your tank class. His muscle will get in between the squad and danger, and help keep other squad members alive. Vanguard tools include the kinetic shield, microwave shield, and assault frame.
Scout: The scout is designed to throw a wrench in the enemy’s works with long range and stealth combat. He sports tools such as biocide sprayers, target markers, and holoprojectors
Engineer: Your engineer is a critical member of your team, sporting the ability to hack locked doors and gain access to areas that would be off limits. In combat, he’s your crowd control, with his bots, turrets, and smoke bombs helping keep your team from getting overwhelmed. His tools include several varieties of bots and turrets, and weapon jammers.
Marine: Marines are there to pack a punch with raw damage, and help the rest of your team do likewise. Tools for the marine include haste fields, auto-reloaders, and nerve-gas aerosols.
Medic: Medics are there to save the day. Tools for the medic include nanobot injectors, bioscanners, m-phase boosters, and defibrillators.
By mixing your squad with a variety of classes and tools, you can fine tune your squad to a play style that suits you. Whether it’s steamrolling the enemy with heavy vanguards and marines, sniping from afar with scouts and engineers, or attempting to save the universe with nothing but medics, you have plenty of options at your disposal.
Not only are you free to customize your crew as you clone or hire them, you can also swap out the class at any time, by simply equipping a new tool. It’s important to note, however, that the crew member’s stats remain the same. That former medic with low strength might not be an optimal vanguard in the future. This is also a factor to consider when cloning, in order to ensure that the character you get fills the role you’re looking to fill.
As you can see, Pixel Privateers offers plenty of freedom to find the right crew, and make the experience truly your own. Thanks for reading, everyone, and we’ll see you next time for more QD News!
