Pixelscape: Oceans

A new game, a new direction...

6 years ago I set out to teach myself to develop interactive gaming experiences. Pixelscape: Oceans was my first project, and while I am so proud of it, the journey it lead me on, and everything I learned from it, it wasn't quite a game. It existed in a relaxing, watery space somewhere between game and art program. In the years since release, I've had a lot of time to learn to put more game in my games.

Today, I'm announcing my return to development, on a collection of games called The Lunch Break Arcade. I took the criticism of lack of gameplay to heart, and started making FIVE games in one. As a solo indie dev, to ensure I can support these games and continue to add even more, I'm reaching out to fans of gaming and indie games and pixelart to help me fund this project.

For just $5 you can help me continue this journey of game development, and build a solid foundation for things to come even after this project is complete. Perhaps, dare I say, a successor to Pixelscape?!

A New Update. New content!

Like the title says, new content and features have been added to Pixelscape: Oceans.

Update Notes:

-More Color Options: All objects that previously had one color option now have an additional color option.

-Fish Bones: In the spirit of halloween, the color options for this object are different skeletons instead of different colors.

-Even More Colors: A number of objects that previously had no color options now have 2 each.

-Better Undo: The simple undo function has been expanded to now go back 10 steps instead of 5. After prolonged testing and no bug reports related to the function, it seemed safe to increase this functionality.

-New function/tool: "Focus Layer." This new button in the eraser toolbar allows users to hide all layers that they aren't currently using the eraser on, making it easier to see and erase the objects on the currently selected layer. This can be toggled on or off, and will automatically turn off when the eraser is deactivated.

Notes:

If you use the Pixelscape Screensaver tool, you will need to update to the latest version (v.1.5) in order for it to properly display pixelscapes with the new color options.

Some objects will still be without color options, mostly due to some technical quirks relating to special handling of certain animations.

As always, if you notice any weird glitches as a result of this update, please post in the community forum and I will attempt to address any issues as soon as possible. If for any odd reason that an update ever causes your Pixelscapes to load improperly, make sure you do not save them in their broken state. This will allow a patch rollback to fix them.

ENJOY!

New Content Coming

Just a quick update to let everyone know that the first of a couple planned content updates will be coming later in October. The first update will be adding a ton of new color options for objects that both already have alternate color options, and objects that don't have any. New creatures are also in the works but will take more time and most likely won't be ready when that first update is ready to launch (but will be hopefully soon after).

Simple Undo Function

A simple undo function is currently in testing, and will be added to Pixelscape: Oceans later today. Your configuration settings will be reset when the update goes live, so if you've changed anything (sound, video, controls) you'll need to make those changes again.

It is a "simple" undo function because right now you can only go back 5 steps, and it can only undo objects you have placed, not objects you have deleted. The default key is "Z" (not ctrl+z).

If all goes well, this functionality could be expanded on later, but I wanted to get something in now to make creating easier for you all.

Quick Achievement Update

I just published an update that should correct any lingering achievement issues (hopefully). As a one man team, I appreciate all the feedback (especially about bugs) from the community.

Achievement Bug Fix

Fixed a bug with unlocking the achievement "Marine Biologist." Also updated the achievement description to be more clear.

Resolution Hotfix

I pushed out a hotfix for screen settings. The game was defaulting to forced 1080p, even if your monitor couldnt support it. It should now do a best possible fit (16:9) on launch. Windowed (720p) can be set from options.
