Hey everyone!

Here is another update with a couple of small changes!

[EDIT]: We forgot to disable a debug setting that causes an instant desync in multiplayer! Sorry for that! Should be fixed now! (Might need to restart Steam to trigger the update)

Quality of life:


+ Added a hotkey that allows you to quickly cycle through (jump to) your colonies! The default key is '^'
+ Added an info message to the desync screen to inform you that the game was saved
~ Updated some of the spanish translation
* Fixed a couple of typos in the german translation for the statistics menu

Bug fixes:


* Fixed a bug that caused the resource menu to allow you to build mines that you haven't unlocked yet
* Fixed a transfer dock conversion issue

Planet S - State of the game #8

Hey everyone!

In this months State of the game we want to give you a look into what you can expect from the High Tech Update!

Roadmap:



Here is a look at the current roadmap:



Not much has changed since last time but we are pretty sure now that the High Tech Update will arrive in April, not in March.

High Tech Update:



With the High Tech Update we want to add a bunch of new content both for multiplayer but also for singleplayer players. Here is a list of features that we want to ship with that update:


  • Tier 4 citizens (Visionaries and Weapon engineers)
  • Tier 4 buildings, including multiple new production chains
  • Over 25+ new items
  • A new planet type! This one will be really special and not comparable to any of the previous three planet types! More on that in next months StoG!
  • Multiple new technologies to research
  • 3 new "large" spaceships
  • Two "Special weapons"




Current state:



QoL and Bug fixes from last SotG:


We have shipped a bunch of fixes and improvements and cleaned up a lot of loose ends since last months StoG:

  • New text system - Shipped with 0.4.3
  • Rework and upgrade of the Tutorial system - Shipped with 0.4.3
  • Limited resources mode - Shipped with 0.4.3
  • Ability to click hold and drag a building to a different location - Shipped with 0.4.3
  • Proportional planet camera zoom distance based on FOV setting - Shipped with 0.4.2
  • Updated the behaviour of trade routes so that they load and unload the specified amount of items instead of loading up to that amount - Shipped with 0.4.2
  • Fixed a critical crash that could happen after loading a savegame after a desync occured during a fight - Shipped with 0.4.2
  • Multiple Desync fixes - Shipped with 0.4.2, 0.4.3 and 0.4.4


Big TODOs:


As mentioned before we were able to check off a bunch of big TODOs last month.

  • Faction flags (No ETA for that yet)
  • "Large planets" world type - We are currently investigating if that technically possible or if it will cause any problems / negatively impact the game in any way
  • Terraforming - We are trying to add this with the High Tech Update
  • Modding support (No ETA for that yet)
  • (Multiple star systems) - Maybe after Early Access


Quality of life:


Here is a list of QoL changes that are in the works or on our TODO list:

  • Hotkey to cycle through colonies
  • Show hotkeys in tooltips
  • Auto upgrade mode for the city center
  • A research queue / Ability to select a technology to be researched and the system will automatically research each technology towards the target technology
  • A world option to increase or decrease the amount of resources generated in if limited resources are enabled


Bugs:


Singleplayer seems to be really stable at the moment but there are still a couple of (fairly) rare desyncs in multiplayer that we are investigating at the moment.

  • There is a hard to debug desync that can cause colony items to go out of sync and trigger a desync
  • There is a very rare bug that can cause multiplayer games to go horribly out of sync without triggering a desync

Planet S Version 0.4.4

Hey everyone!

This is just a small bug fix patch to address a critical bug!

Bug fixes:


* Fixed a bug that caused the trade menu to be broken and unusable
* Fixed a false positive diplomacy desync when denying certain actions
* Fixed a crash when opening the key bindings options menu (shadow dropped during 0.4.3 as a horfix)

Quality of life:


+ Added an indicator to savegames that shows you the player count / faction count in that savegame

Engine:


~ Streamlined some window related code to improve compatibility with some devices

Planet S Version 0.4.3

Hey everyone!

This update is a bit larger than usual as it contains a new world generation feature that was requested by the community, the tutorial rework and more!

Tutorial:


+ Complete overhaul of the tutorial experience:


  • New tutorial UI (old Tutorial notifications will be replaced)
  • Helpful screenshots for tutorial missions
  • Ability to skip tutorial steps
  • Ability to look at previous tutorial steps for help

+ The tutorial now works in multiplayer as well
~ Reworked how the tutorial checks progress so that you can't get stuck anymore if you do steps in a different order

World generation:


+ NEW Ability to generate worlds with limited resources


  • There are three options available: Unlimited (same as before the update), Refillable (You can refill resources by paying for it with credits) and Limited (If a resource is empty, its empty!)
  • "Unlimited" will be the default setting so you have to chose the setting you want manually during world generation
  • Existing savegames will be converted to the "Unlimited" mode so nothing changes for existing savegames


UI:


~ Tweaked the height of the garrison / war UI overlay
~ Tweaked the height of the resource UI to accommodate for a resource limit
~ Moved the pause UI between the research and info UI on the left (was previously hidden behind the war UI on some screens)
~ The chat frame is now hidden by default
* Fixed item icon alignment in some UIs

War:


~ A colony now switches into attack mode after a building loses more than 50% of its health instead of after being destroyed

Quality of life:


+ You can now move buildings by clicking and holding the left mouse button for a short time on a building and then releasing the left button (click + hold, then release = move)

Bug fixes:


* Fixed a trade route visualization bug
* Fixed a bug that caused some trade routes to not pick up some of the items
* Fixed a bug that caused spaceships to doge planets way too late
* Fixed a drone related crash
* Fixed a potential crash when another player leaves the game in multiplayer
* Implemented a potential fix for spaceships "drifting" away from a planet

Engine:


+ Implemented UTF-8 support throughout our entire codebase. This completes our transition to a more advanced text system! We can now render pretty much any character although the font that the game ships with at the moment doesn't support every language and every character. We will add additional fonts for that in the future.

Planet S Version 0.4.2

Hey everyone!

Here is another bug fix patch that should address some of the issues that popped up over the last week + a couple of QoL changes!

Quaility of life:


+ You can now disable autosave if you want to
~ The camera zoom distances and speeds now scale approximately to the FOV for lower FOV settings
~ The "Save" button will now be grayed out for clients in a multiplayer session as it didnt work anyways
~ Slight tweak to the behaviour of trade routes: Each item entry will now function as an "action" so "Load 10 bricks" will now be actually load 10 bricks instead of loading bricks until your slot reaches 10 bricks. This is only really relevant for complex trade routes where you load goods of the same type at multiple different locations

Bug fixes:


* Fixed an issue that caused one of the laser turrets of the Protector to not shoot at all or in the wrong direction
* Fixed multiple diplomacy related desyncs
* Fixed a diplomacy related crash that could occur checking out a diplomatic proposal from another player
* Fixed another crash that could occur when loading a savegame after a desync / quick save or leaving the game
* Fixed a desync issue that caused spaceships to go out of sync
* Fixed a desync that caused building production an various other progress related things to go out of sync
* Fixed a lobby related crash that could occur when the host closes a lobby
* Fixed a translation error in the german translation that caused the war timer to not show the amount of seconds left

Engine:


+ The engine will now check the installed graphics driver version on first start and display a warning if the version is older than a certain minimum

Planet S - State of the game #7

Hey everyone!

Welcome back to this months State of the Game. This time we want to give you an update on our roadmap as well as what the next big update is going to be. But first we wanted to say thank you to everyone who tried out the Military Update! There are still some bugs (mostly in multiplayer) that we are working on fixing at the moment but overall we are happy with the launch and state after 0.4.1 which addressed many of the most common problems.

Here is a look at the updated roadmap:



As you can see the next big update will be the "High Tech Update". It will bring the final Tier 4 citizens and with it a bunch of new buildings, items and production chains. On top of that it will also add large spaceships both for transport and combat and a couple more "bigger" features which we will go into in the next StoG.

Current state:



QoL and Bug fixes from last SotG:


We have shipped a couple of QoL features since last SotG:

  • Markers to help identify the poles of the planet you are on - Shipped with 0.4.0
  • Spaceships that are constructed by the spaceship yard no longer spawn in each other - Shipped with 0.4.0


Big TODOs:



  • New text system - Currently in the works.
  • Rework and upgrade of the Tutorial system - Coming in one of next few updates (0.4.X)
  • Limited resources mode - Coming soon
  • Terraforming - We are trying to add this with the High Tech Update

Hey everyone!

Here is the first bug fix patch to address some of the bugs that you reported in the last 24 hours.

Bugs:


* Fixed a crash that could occur when taking over a colony
* Fixed an issue that caused the tile markers while placing buildings or fields to be always red
* Fixed a desync that could occur when repairing certain buildings after a takeover that were not unlocked by that player
* Fixed an issue that caused items in trade routes from older savegames to be offet
* Fixed a crash that could occur when hovering over a military building
* Fixed a translation issue for the technology "Softdrink double packs"
* Fixed a crash that could occur in a multiplayer lobby if a player times out
* Fixed a small memory leak related to diplomatic proposals
* Fixed a crash that could occur after loading back into a savegame with active combat after a desync occured
* Fixed a crash that could occur while swapping slots in a multiplayer lobby
* Fixed the weird behaviour of the spaceship group tooltip
* Fixed a desync related to pausing a building
* Fixed a diplomacy related desync

Quality of life:


~ The spaceship destruction notification will no longer show up if a player destroys one of its spaceship with the deconstruction tool

This should address some of the most common issues.

Planet S Version 0.4.0 - Military Update

Hey everyone!

Its finally time for the Military Update! With this update we are finally adding in the last big missing gameplay system! There is a whole lot to cover so lets go:

NEW Combat:


Spaceship combat:



  • Spaceships can now attack other spaceships if both factions are at war with each other
  • Attack by right clicking on a spaceship with a spaceship that can attack
  • Spaceships will automatically attack nearby enemies when in range
  • Spaceships will only automatically follow their target when the user explicity requested the attack
  • Spaceships loose all their items when destroyed


Colony combat:



  • Spaceships can attack buildings
  • Defensive buildings will automatically attack the strongest target within range
  • Defensive buildings will form a garrison when close to each other (red area indicator)
  • A colony will switch into a war state as soon as one building got destroyed
  • The owner of a colony cannot build / move / destroy or upgrade any buildings on that planet while the colony is in a war state
  • A colony will switch back into its normal state if no spaceship has attacked a building for the last 30 seconds
  • Buildings that get destroyed will become a ruin and can be repaired if the colony is no longer in the war state
  • To conquer a planet, a player has to destroy all garrisons on that planet
  • A garrison gets destroyed if 60% or more of the defensive buildings of that garrison get destroyed
  • The colony will be taken over by the player that destroyed the most garrisons
  • After a takeover of a colony all of its buildings will become a ruin aside of the spaceport which will automatically be repaired
  • All items of a colony will be destroyed after a takeover


Spaceships:


+ NEW Fighter


  • Early / first battleship you are able to build
  • Requires Tier 2 citizens to be unlocked
  • First battleship that can attack buildings!
  • Three turrets that shoot projectiles


+ NEW Falcon


  • Mid game battleship
  • Requires Tier 3 citizens to be unlocked
  • Very powerful siege spaceship
  • Slower but more tanky
  • Up to six turrets that shoot projectiles (depending on its orientation towards the target)


+ NEW Protector


  • Science specific battleship
  • Requires technology to be unlocked
  • Can be upgraded with a shield projector (technology) that adds shield points to surrounding spaceships
  • Up to two turrets that shoot lasers (depending on its orientation towards the target)


+ NEW Interceptor


  • Military specific battleship
  • Requires technology to be unlocked
  • Can be upgraded to be extremly fast
  • Cheap but very vulnerable
  • Up to four turrets that shoot projectiles (depending on its orientation towards the target)


+ NEW Spaceships now have a health, damge per second and shield stat (shield only when "Shield technology" is unlocked)
+ NEW You can escort one of your spaceships by right clicking it while having at least one other spaceship selected. The other spaceship will then follow the spaceship that is to be escorted and attack enemies within its range
+ NEW You can now create spaceship groups by holding Ctrl + "Number" while having one or more spaceships selected. You can then reselect these spaceships by clicking on the group button or by hiting that number on your keyboard.
+ NEW The game will now display a circular health and shield bar arround spaceship if they are damaged
+ NEW Spaceship can regenerate health while within range of a shipyard. Shield points regenerate automatically after when out of combat
+ Added various new technologies related to spaceships
+ The Explorer spaceship can now shoot with up to two turrets but it can only attack other spaceships no buildings!
+ Spaceships will now try to keep some spacing between each other while standing still

Items and buildings:


+ NEW Added "Guns" and "Lasers" as new items for military buildings and ships
+ NEW Added two new buildings to produce Guns and Lasers:

  1. Gun factory: Produces Guns and consumes Iron ingots
  2. Laser factory: Produces laers and consumes Hardended glass and Electronics

+ NEW Added four new defensive buildings:

  1. Orbital flak: Unlocked with Tier 2 and functions as a solid first building to defend your colony.
  2. Defense laser: Unlocked with Researchers and is exclusive to the science faction. It shoot a laser that builds up more damage over time while attacking.
  3. Railgun: Unlocked via research and is exclusive to the military faction. It has a low attack speed but a very high damage per projectile.
  4. Shield projector: Unlocked via research and is exclusive to the science faction. It can not attack but it projects additional shield points to buildings within range

+ NEW Added a new building called "Transfer dock" which functions as a spaceport but without any defense turrets. This building will replace all Spaceport except one on each planet
+ Spaceports are now a military building and have a turret to defend themselves. They function as the first garrison and every planet has to have a Spaceport.
+ Added building, move and destroy sounds for buildings and spaceships
- You can no longer build new Spaceports from the building menu

Diplomacy:


+ You can now declare war on other factions
+ You can now offer your or demand colonies of other factions
+ Military buildings and spaceships have a military score assigned to them. Every faction will now display a total military score and an economy score in the diplomacy menu
+ If a player declares war on another player that you are in an alliance with you will also automatically join that war
+ Added a game option for a start peace treaty with different options for its length (30 minutes+)

Balancing:


~ The technology "Vegetable rations" from the military research tree will now only affect military residents
~ Explorer:

  • Speed: 170 -> 90
  • Upkeep: 40 -> 50
  • Construction const: Credits 750 -> 1500, Steel 25 -> 20, Guns 0 -> 5

~ Small cargo spaceship:

  • Speed: 150-> 75


Quality of life:


+ Added a planet pole marker for orientation purposes. It will be visible while rotating around the planet
+ The spaceship UI will now display an icon of the spaceship type next to the name
+ Added an info icon above residences while using the upgrade tool that shows up when you are able to upgrade that building
~ Tweaked the behavior of faction ring markers around spaceships. They will now individually be visable based on distance from the camera
~ The credits count when creating a diplomatic proposal with a demand for credits will be marked as red if the other player does not have enough money
~ The upgrade button for buildings will now always be visible and its tooltip now displays what you are missing (including the happyness and missing residents)

Bug fixes:


* Fixed a rare and random engine level crash
* Fixed a crash that could occured when there are other types of files in the saves folder
* Fixed a lobby related crash
* Fixed a bug that caused buildings to be marked as in shadow while not being in shadow (lights were on)
* Fixed a desync that could happen when moving a building onto itself with the same rotation
* Fixed an issue that caused savegames to not stack correctly in the savegame menu (Only works for newer savegames)
* Fixed an issue that caused unlock conditions for technologies to not triggerd correctly
* Fixed an issue that caused energy levels to go into a positive/negative loop
* Fixed a missing translation issue in the diplomacy menu

We have been working really hard to create this update and we are super excited to share it with all of you and to hear your feedback, suggestions and ideas especially related to balancing and the new combat mechanics!

Planet S Military Update Announcement + Trailer

Hey everyone!

We are happy to announce the release date for the Military Update. The update will go live on the 28th of January! The update will contain the following features:


  • Spaceship to Spaceship and Spaceship to Building combat
  • Ability to destroy Spaceships, Buildings and take over colonies
  • Multiple new technologies to research
  • Four new spaceships ("Fighter", "Falcon", "Protector", "Interceptor")
  • Four new defensive buildings ("Orbital flak", "Defence laser", "Railgun", "Shield projector")
  • Two new production chains ("Guns" and "Lasers")
  • The ability to form a convoy to automatically protect for example a cargo spaceship

..and a lot more including multiple QoL improvements and bug fixes!

Planet S Version 0.3.8

Hey everyone!

This is just a small update to fix a potential crash when starting the game.

This update also disables the cristmas decorations. If you still want these to be enabled, you have to go into the install directory of the game and rename the "christmas.aexassets.disabled" file to just "christmas.aexassets" (just remove the ".disabled" part).

General:


- Disabled the christmas decorations

Engine:


* Fixed a potential crash related to the new font system that randomly occured on startup

This will be the last patch before the next big update unless another cirtical problem shows up of course.
