Delaying the release of The Traffic Management Update
Fellow officers,
The last few weeks have been incredibly exciting: With the start of the Beta for The Traffic Management Update, thousands have started to discover the new set of features, possibilities, and tools included.
While the feedback has definitely been positive, it became clear that a bunch of work is still necessary. We've collected a loooot of feedback (that spreadsheet is definitely a colossus...) and have already started our work on improving everything around the update. We think it is better to delay the update and take more time to improve it - and not push it out for the sake of pushing it out.
This is why we ultimately decided against releasing the stable build on June 28 and instead delay the entire Traffic Management Update to July 12, 2022.
In one of our last blog posts, we already mentioned a planned beta hotfix in which the currently missing reverse driving feature will be included. This beta hotfix will now be released on June 28.
So, in short:
Beta Hotfix: June 28, 2022
Stable Release: July 12, 2022
Yes, this is the very first time we are actively delaying an entire update. But we strongly believe it is for the better and hope to have your understanding.
If you haven't yet checked out The Traffic Management Update, you can just switch over to the beta branch. We will still collect feedback over the weeks to come and improve the game based on what you have to say.
With love, Your Police Simulator Team

The Traffic Management Update is coming on June 28 โ Open Beta starts now!
Fellow officers,
just recently I watched the new Doctor Strange movie and realized: Wow, being able to redirect a car falling down from the sky after being smashed by a weird demon through a portal... that's pretty neat. While you can not perform magic in our game, we will provide you with other ways to take control of traffic!
Welcome to The Traffic Management Update - now available in Open Beta before the full update launches on June 28th!
Introducing: The Traffic Management Update
Safety first. We always pledged that. And that's why the Brighton Police Department invested heavily into new tools and guidelines to help all officers in their craft.
Check out the trunk of your patrol car - new goodies await you! Use your cones and barriers to block off individual lanes, entire streets, secure accident sites, or annoy other drivers! The latter one is a joke, please don't do that.
Use your commands!
Why do you have hands? Yes, to carry things from A to B. And yes, also to hold a gamepad. But more important: You can use them to perform gestures & issue commands!
With The Traffic Management Update, you receive a variety of options just for that!
You can now order...
NPCs to stop and wait
NPCs to walk to a different location and wait there
NPCs to not use the sidewalk at all
NPCs to turn around and use a different route
NPVs to wait
NPVs to turn around and use a different route
NPVs to reverse drive
We highly recommend using a combination of tools and manual commands to redirect traffic in a way that suits your present needs.
Note: The option to order NPVs to reverse is not present in the beta yet! We currently plan to release a hotfix next week which will contain this option.
Mod your ELS!
Oh lord, never ever could we have anticipated the huge amount of mods you would create! It was clear to us that you really want to receive even more options to modify, personalize and optimize the game.
That's why we couldn't wait to introduce ELS Modding which enables you to adjust both sirens and blipping, customize all lights on all patrol cars, change the frequency, switch up the brightness and variate the colors.
Note: Of course, you can currently only use ELS mods with the beta branch and NOT with the stable branch.
Of course, we've both updated the official mod kit and written a guide to help you with your creations! Check it out here:
While we give you a bunch of new options to direct traffic yourself, it was crucial to optimize the AI at the same time. We're shipping a bunch of AI improvements that include a smart reaction to sirens, a better approach to intersections, an advanced lane switching behavior... and more. If you want to take a closer look at the changes, we've created an article with a few example videos:
Bug fixes, performance improvements & other new features
As with the last updates, the team put a tremendous focus on fixing a bunch of longstanding bugs. You can take a closer look at them in the patch notes further down below.
We also resolved a bunch of crashes - and improved performance plus framerates across the board. In addition, you can now adjust the spawn density of NPCs and NPVs while fleeing has become an official arrest reason!
How do I enter the Open Beta?
We've made the process as easy as possible to include you, the community, early on during the development of the game. To join the Open Beta, you only need to perform the following steps:
Right-click on Police Simulator: Patrol Officers in your Steam library.
Select 'Properties' in the menu.
Select 'Betas' in the sidebar on the left.
Select 'Beta' in the drop-down menu and confirm your decision to switch to that branch.
An update should now start - you are now officially part of the Open Beta!
To switch back to your stable save game, just repeat these steps again - but instead of selecting 'Beta', you just select 'None'. Easy.
Everyone can test the beta extensively and provide feedback on its features, balancing, and bugs. Feel free to send us your impressions on Discord, in the Steam Beta forums and on our Socials.
Save game to unlock everything in the beta
By visiting this link, you can download a save game for use on the beta branch (and only on the beta branch!). This save game will unlock all features immediately. You also need to know that you must copy the save game into the following folder:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Boston\Saved\SaveGames You can find the folder more easily by typing %localappdata% into the Windows search.
Since the save is named Career_0beta.sav, you have to delete any other save game which might also be called Career_0beta.sav. We recommend doing a backup of the old save game as well should you want to keep it for the future.
Of course, this is completely optional and intended to help those who want to see everything unlocked in the beta from the very start. The old method of unlocking stuff does still work.
Here are the official patch notes for The Traffic Management Update
No more talking, now it's time for the Open Beta!

AI Improvements: Here's how much will change with The Traffic Management Update
Fellow officers,
with the upcoming Traffic Management Update (the beta starts next week!), we're introducing a lot of AI Improvements with a focus on the overall behavior of NPVs (Non-Player-Vehicles).
As the team has put a lot of work into the AI Improvements, we want to show off some of the changes we made over the last few months. In short: NPVs will now react a lot smarter to sirens, they approach intersections better and their lane switching behavior is more advanced.
In this video, you can see that we've blocked off the lane on the very left with one of our brand-new road barriers. The NPVs will understand it as a way to turn back and accept the need to take another route. In turn, this allows you to better work on, for example, accident sites, and resolve traffic jams.
In this video, you can see how NPVs begin to drive slower once you have your blue lights turned on. They begin to drive faster once you turn them off again. A nice side effect: On wider streets, you can easier drive through the gaps between cars and react to their movements.
NPVs now react a lot faster to your blipping and find a parking spot immediately. No need to drive around 100 blocks with them (and that always felt like an eternity).
Here, you can see how far intersections are being blocked by your siren. They stand still until you have driven past them, which makes it easier to drive to the location you are required at.
Speaking of intersections: NPVs which are very close to an intersection will not react directly to your siren and will try to make space so that you have a wider gap to drive through.
They also clear the intersection if you have your siren enabled continuously, making sure that you have all the time and space in the world to reach your destination.
If you disable the siren but keep the blue lights shining, the cars will begin to traverse the intersection.
Let's get back to your road barriers: In this video, you can see how smooth NPVs react to blocked-off lanes. They spot the barrier and immediately move to a different lane.
It's not just barriers, though! NPVs also react to cones and will switch to a different lane - if a different lane is available. Otherwise, they would turn around and find a different route.
You're at full speed, crossing an intersection with sirens and blue lights enabled? Then, NPVs crossing an intersection as well will brake fast so that you won't crash into them.
NPVs are smart enough not to brake and halt should you drive in a different direction than them, and will continue to drive their desired route.

A bit over 90 mods have been uploaded to the Steam Workshop thus far and we've been absolutely amazed at the sheer efforts you put into them. Those liveries and uniforms... they are all great. Today, we want to highlight some creations we've observed on the Steam Workshop and provide a special shoutout. Let's dive into them!
The Gotham City Skin Pack
As the latest Batman movie has been released just a few weeks ago (with Robert Pattinson looking like an absolute hottie, can't deny that), it was clear someone will create a fitting skin pack. Welcome to Gotham City, everyone! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2801945216
Boston Police Pack
Some of you might know that the city of Brighton is based on Boston - so what could be better than some realistic liveries and uniforms? https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2791431291&searchtext=
Massachusetts State Police Skin
Geography question: In which US state is Boston located? I hope you've been paying attention back then (I didn't, was more of a History person) as the correct answer is Massachusetts. Here's the fitting skin pack! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2784024538&searchtext=
Metropolitan Police Uniform
Yes, there is a Brighton in the UK as well. No, our Brighton is not the Brighton in the UK. But this skin is still inspired by the United Kingdom, more precisely by the Metropolitan Police. I had to look it up and apparently, it's the *actual* name of Scotland Yard... but who's even using the *actual* name, right? https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2793193175&searchtext=
Ghost Livery Pack
Halloween is a few months away still, but we can already become... kind of spooky? This pack converts all patrol cars into ghosts, white and scary. Boo. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2784148210&searchtext=
NYPD - New York Police Department Clothes
Ah... I love New York. Something about this city fascinates me, even if I've never been there myself. Thank god this uniform pack exists so that I can at least cosplay as a true NYPD police officer! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2789542344&searchtext=
Los Angeles PD Pack
Let's switch from the east coast to the west coast, from NYPD to LAPD. This skin pack is one of the most popular ones for a reason! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2788219269
Brighton PD Supervisor
Become the boss of your Police Department and upgrade your cars and uniforms. This changes the textures of the police cars to a silver-grey livery and adds a rank insignia to the officer uniforms, providing a 'Sergeant Rank' to all officers. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2785603062
The Cruiser Taxi
It's time to go undercover! This pack makes your Cruiser patrol car look like your friendly neighborhood taxi from Brighton. Don't mind the siren at the top, though. It just provides... a certain flair. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2793541324&searchtext=
2D Templates
We love how the community is helping each other out with ideas, guidance, and tutorials. This pack made by Rizaly provides some awesome 2D templates, focused on ambient occlusion, for you to create your very own skins! There's another one made by Zlatey which we can also highly recommend. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2792496764&searchtext= Check out our Steam Workshop to take a look at all mods!
How to create your own mods
We've created a comprehensive guide that explains how to create, test, and upload your mods! Check it out here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2778896763 In addition, we have created a video guide that shows the creation process for a mod. We highly recommend taking a look:

What's inside The Holding Cells Update?
With The Holding Cells Update, we're providing a new layer to the already existing aspect of arresting suspects - improving and advancing it to a point where it is actually engaging to take care of them. Let's dive deeper into everything that awaits you with today's update...
(Please ignore the puns.)
Tinker Bell loves a Thicker Cell
Arresting suspects? Nothing new. Handcuffing them? Has been here for a while. Escorting them yourself? This is brand new!
We have added holding cells to every single precinct in Brighton, expanding them in new ways. To ensure that they look as realistic as possible, we took quite some inspiration from other games and real-life by working together with actual police officers. They almost look like they have been here since the very beginning, don't they?
Before this update, you always had to call your local control room to receive support by a different police officer as backup. They then took care of the arrested suspect and your job was done, finito, erledigt. Now, you can use your own vehicle to take up to two handcuffed individuals to the precinct yourself and transfer them to one of the holding cells. And not just that: There's also a new callout asking you to arrest handcuffed suspects to the holding cells!
You want to save some gas and get some rest? No problem, you'll not be forced to transport the suspects. You can still call for a police van. Your colleagues will remain awesome partners.
We could not wait to finally ship the holding cells as we've been hearing this feature request for a while now. Well, basically since release. Here you go, we did it.
Mod it like it's hot
You are absolutely crazy. With this update, we're introducing some basic modding options and some of you already created a bunch of them during the beta. In fact, more than 50 (!!!) mods have been released thus far. You can check them out on the Steam Workshop!
Okay, what does 'Basic Modding Options' even mean? Well, you can now implement custom skins for your police character and police car that you have created outside of the game. Once you are finished, you can also upload this mod to the Steam Workshop and share your skin with other players of Police Simulator: Patrol Officers. In turn, you can also download mods from other players. Win-win!
We are also providing you with a way to modify the name of your character. If you plan to create your very own mods, we recommend taking a look at our official modding guide:
New features, that's fine. Improving old features? Even better! The Holding Cells Update comes with a variety of smaller and bigger improvements, including a bunch of quality-of-life features. Here's a small selection:
You can now fine and ticket someone after handcuffing them
You can now check the ID after handcuffing someone
You can now give accident reports to arrested people
Tow Trucks and Arrest Transports now have a lightbar
Ring menus now display the availability of a submenu
A volume slider has been added in the audio options for the ELS
You can now delete savegames in the save menu
The AI spawn behavior has been improved
We've also fixed dozens and dozens of bugs - but we're far from done. With the next updates, we're further shifting priorities towards fixing bugs which will, in turn, reduce the number of new features for a certain period of time. We will go into more detail about that very soon.
Let's go on patrol!
If you haven't seen it already, last week we released the very first episode of #ONPATROL, the official PS:PO show! If you want to learn more about the development of the game and receive some exclusive behind-the-scenes insights, we can only recommend taking a look:
