EGX London 2022 Wrap Up!
First and Foremost: Thank You!
After a little bit of recovery from the show, its time for an update!
This was a very exciting and nerve-wracking time for Madorium; taking our game to a show for the first time, running the game on a moderately untested method (LAN) , and having to really talk to people out in the real world for the first time in years! And with all those things considered, we were beyond ecstatic with the feedback and the appreciation that we and the game received while at EGX London this year!
We were lucky to see an incredibly diverse set of people across all ages have a try at Polterguys and be able to enjoy it; and a number of those would come back later with their friends to compete with them head to head! Some of our absolute favorite moments were when a group of friends would play and start competing with each other, and be able to see people having a laugh the whole time.. even if the monster surprised them from the top of the bridge!
On the second day of the show, we were already starting to hear people being recommended over to us from a variety of sources - even from representatives at booths demoing other games! 👻 And for that, we give our utmost thanks to those who were so kind to tell their friends and anyone else at the show about our game! There was hardly ever a lull, and almost always a queue, to be able to play our game! And that's because of all of you!
What's Next?
As for what's next for Polterguys.. we are in the process of trying to secure a path towards release, to try and grow this community, and to find new ways and events where we can get the game into people's hands as soon as possible!
While we were at the show, we were able to observe people playing the game for the very first time, and did our best in paying attention to any potential barriers that new players had when playing our game. When demoing at the expo, at least in its current state, we mostly had a trial by fire way of showing people how to play; we wanted people in the chaos and fun as quickly as possible! With this approach though, we found that for a portion of players, they were able to pick up most things the experience had to offer fairly quickly; however, this was certainly not the case for everyone who gave Polterguys a play.
We want the game to be rewarding to all players, and for them to experiment some and learn things as they play, but also not be at a major disadvantage if they don't know all the mechanics. There were a few nuances to the game that there wasn't time to share during a demo such as one at EGX, but we hope these are things that players discover in the future and can help enrich the experience. We also want to keep the experience open for players to play in a way that suits them best.. be that aggressive, hiding, constantly running, etc. We want the game to have a steady learning curve and fun at every stage, rather than a steep learning curve like you might experience jumping into our demo at EGX. We have collected our notes and feedback from EGX and are already looking at ways to smooth out this experience for new players in these situations!
Future Engagements
Going forwards from this point-of-no-return where we have shared our game to the world for the first time... We are hoping to open up the development process a bit more to the community and grow and build Polterguys from there!
We are planning to share more content across all of our socials, streaming development/play-tests over Twitch, engaging with the community for feature requests or suggestions or feedback on current things we are working on, etc. At EGX we got to see people enjoy the game as much as we have for a while now, and can't wait to share more of what we have planned and try to engage with the community.
For now, just keep an eye on our socials and here on Steam for any upcoming news and events! Our socials are all found at the handle @PolterguysGame, and we will do our best to keep updates coming while keeping our heads down on developing Polterguys further! And if you haven't already, be sure to wishlist the game!
Thank you all again for the support and spending part of your time at EGX trying out our game! The response has exceeded our expectations at this point. Reach out if you have any questions or feedback!
