Version 1.0.3 of PolyCube is live, and this version is (almost) all about enhancements for VR users.
VR Improvements
Massive performance improvements for all VR headsets
Game now automatically pauses when you enter the Oculus Dash or Steam VR system menus, or remove the headset
Background music pauses when you enter the Oculus Dash or Steam VR system menus, or remove the headset
Fixed Oculus Touch controllers mixing up input if an Xbox gamepad is also turned on and connected to the PC
Graphical Improvements
Fixed Trilinear Filtering and Anisotropic Filtering being disabled. Whoops.
Where is Version 1.0.2?
There is no 1.0.2. I skipped it because there were just so many improvements. (Actually I had a 1.0.2 but it never got released before I moved on to 1.0.3, so you're getting two updates for the price of one!)
Ringing in the New Year with Version 1.0.1
Version 1.0.1 of PolyCube is out now, and it brings several important fixes!
Added Finnish Language Support
You can now play PolyCube in 9 different languages!
Improved Analog Stick Support
Those of you using the analog stick on your controllers instead of the d+pad should find PolyCube movement to be much responsive and less floaty.
Fixed Warning Lights/Music
If the blocks got too high, the warning lights would change color and the "panic" music would start playing, but in some situations things wouldn't go back to normal immediately after clearing a few lines. This has been fixed now.
Fixed Line Clearing Dissolve Effect
The particle effect that plays whenever you clear lines now plays faster. This mainly helps VR players.
Misc. Fixes
A few other smaller things have been improved as well.
PolyCube has left Early Access!
Very happy to announce that PolyCube has left Early Access on Steam, and with it, the version 1.0 of the game has been published!
There were a ton of changes since the last Early Access version, so here are few highlights:
Added Multiple Language Support
PolyCube is now playable in these languages:
English
Simplified Chinese
Spanish
French
German
Japanese
Russian
Polish
And a few more are on their way!
Improved Controller Input
Controller input has been re-written to be even better, especially for VR controllers.
Other Improvements
Light up the level in yellow/red when blocks are getting high or the game is over
Improved lighting
Additional sound effects
Updated font rendering
More adjustments to in-game tutorial
Added Game Credits screen
Fixes to Leaderboards screens
Improved skybox
Added Desktop Camera to VR for better screen recordings
And more...
Improved Tutorial System, Better Controller Support, and More
Version 0.90 of PolyCube is out with a lot of small things, but the biggest improvement is the all new tutorial system, which does a much better job of teaching new players how to play the game!
New & Improved Tutorial
The old tutorial system was scrapped and a better one was built in its place. Now the tutorial does a little more hand holding and actually teaches you how to play the game. Actions are now broken into different sections as well to make learning how to play easier.
Completely re-wrote Tutorial system to be less bad
Added better controller button images for Xbox, DualShock, Switch, Steam Controller, Rift, Vive, WMR, and Generic controllers
Added "How to Play" button to main menu, to re-launch tutorial at any time
Better Controller Support
PolyCube's top-notch controller support is even better!
Improved Steam Controller support
Improved Windows Mixed Reality controller support
Improved generic gamepad support
Changed default keyboard binding for Rotate Grid from tab/shift to F/G (Existing players may need to manually change their keyboard settings)
Other Changes
Fixed sometimes moving a PolyCube twice on one joystick press (too sensitive)
Removed Early Access survey
Fixed several misc. bugs
Lots of behind the scenes fixes
With the build version climbing its way towards 1.0, we hope to finish the game and leave Early Access soon!
Steam Controller + Windows Mixed Reality Improvements
Version 0.83 of PolyCube is out today, bringing two big improvements:
Improved Steam Controller Support
Fixed some actions being mapped to wrong buttons
Fixed problem with Peeking and right trackpad
Added rumble (vibration) for Steam Controller
Added Steam Controller button layout to Main Menu > Options > Controller screen
Improved Windows Mixed Reality Support
Big changes to the WMR controllers! Before, they acted like Vive controllres and only the trackpad was used. Now, both the analog sticks and trackpad are in full use. The analog sticks move your PolyCube while the trackpad will rotate it. Use the triggers to drop a block and grips to rotate the grid.
Improved Windows Mixed Reality button mapping
Fixed Windows Mixed Reality rumble (vibration)
Added Windows Mixed Reality button layout to Main Menu > Options > Controller screen
I'd like to take a minute to thank Microsoft for their very generous Windows Mixed Reality development kit they sent me. I wouldn't have been able to add proper WMR support to PolyCube without it!
Known Issue
While these controllers have been added to the Main Menu, they have not been added to the in-game tutorial yet. I am in the process of completely re-working the tutorial to be less horrible, and as such I didn't want to waste time on something that will be thrown away very soon.
Achievements Unlocked
Version 0.82 of PolyCube is out, and we've added several Achievements for you to get. There are quite a few ridiculous ones, and even a couple that should be pretty much impossible.
Version 0.8 of PolyCube has been released, and the big feature this time is Steam Leaderboards!
Steam Leaderboards
After you complete a full game of PolyCube, your score will automatically be posted to the Steam Leaderboards so you can compare your skills against your friends, or the world!
Separate Leaderboards for each game mode, so you can be the master of Easy 8x8 if you want
Filter Leaderboards Globally or Friends Only
VR players share the same Leaderboards with non-VR players
View all Leaderboards from the Main Menu
Other Changes
Fixed dropped inputs at high levels (8+) when blocks were dropping faster
Fixed camera being too close in 8x8 Custom Game grid in non-VR mode
Misc. bug fixes
Version 0.7 Adds Custom Game Mode
Version 0.7 of PolyCube has been released, and the headlining feature is the new Custom Game mode.
Custom Grid Size
You can make the game area larger or smaller. Smaller grids don't make you keep track of as many things at once, but are also more unforgiving of mistakes.
A custom grid can be any of these sizes:
4 x 4
5 x 5 (Standard)
6 x 6
7 x 7
8 x 8
Custom PolyCube Set
In addition to resizing the grid, you can also swap out the puzzle pieces themselves to make the game easier or more challenging. The Easy set removes some of the more challenging pieces from the standard set. The Hard set adds a few new PolyCube types not seen in the standard game!
The following PolyCube Sets are available:
Easy
Standard
Hard
More are planned for later!
NOTE: Whenever Leaderboards are added to the game, there will be a separate Leaderboard for each possible Custom Game combination. So you will be able to top the charts for 8 x 8 Hard Set; so start practicing now!
Version 0.6 is here
It's been a little while since the last stable build of PolyCube, because I've been working on a lot of things behind the scenes. But the newest build is finally ready! And here's what is in it:
PolyCube movement & rotation is now fully animated! This makes the game easier to play and looks pretty
Fixed Shadow cube could become out of sync w/ dropping PolyCube
Moved scoreboard to be easier to see in VR mode
Cleaned up input delays and what happens when you push 2 buttons at once
Added screen shake when clearing lines in non-VR mode
Leftover blocks drop faster after clearing lines
Fixed weird bug where leftover blocks can move while dropping
Lots of other small bug fixes
Version 0.5.3 has big Vive Wand fixes
The latest build of PolyCube has the following fixes, most of them specifically to address problems with the Vive Wands for HTC Vive users:
Fixed offset placement on preview pieces
Increased panic music threshold to 70%
Fixed panic music not being reset immediately after clearing lines
Updated Vive control scheme; see note below
Fixed Vive pause menu button not working
Updated Vive controller layout diagram in Options > Controllers
Vive Wand Button Changes
Based on player feedback, we've changed the button layout for VR players using the Vive Wands and Windows Mixed Reality controllers. See the new layout in the Options > Controller menu.
Actions now only take place once per touchpad press, so you don't accidentally move or rotate too far
Move PolyCube Down has moved to down on the right touchpad
Drop PolyCube has moved to the trigger button
Rotate Grid left/right has moved to the grip buttons
Pause Menu button now works
NOTE: Players with Oculus Rift Touch controllers or any regular gamepads (Xbox, PS4, Switch, etc) are not affected by this change.
