Update 0.5 - Challenge Yourself!

Today we're releasing Update 0.5 for Primal Carnage: Onslaught!

Introducing Challenges!

In this update we are adding a new way of playing the game - Challenges! Challenges have various tweaks to the standard gameplay, ranging from changing the items you can purchase, to larger changes such as "One Shot, One Kill" guns and "Melee-Only" challenges. Each challenge has three ranks for you to try and achieve, earning you points to unlock more difficult challenges. Global leaderboards are maintained for each challenge so you are able to compete against yourself, your friends and other players for that top spot.

In adding this feature our goal is to add variety to the game and give players some new, interesting and challenging ways to play. Some of our most enjoyable moments playing this game have happened while playing, testing and designing these challenges.

So far there are 13 challenges across 2 maps. Challenges are the type of content that we aim to expand on in the future, as they allow us to introduce weapons and mechanics that would break the balance of the main game.
We're very interested in the feedback of all players on the challenges we have included in this release. If you have any ideas for challenges, please let us know!

Improved Throwing

Throwing in VR is hard. Things like tracking precision and a lack of weight are some factors that can contribute to a less than satisfactory experience when throwing objects in VR. We were unhappy with initial implementation that let the physics engine do a lot of the heavy lifting, so in this update we've changed how throwing mechanics work. Our goal with this update was a smoother outcome and removing the weird extremes of throwing, but we feel like we've achieved a better throwing experience overall! We're very happy with the results of our endeavour and we hope you are too.

New Melee Weapons

For some of the new challenges we have added a series of new melee weapons including all your favourites from a wrench to a baseball bat! As part of this update we also added the ability to throw your melee weapons and damage your foes. The improvements we made to the throwing really allowed us to get a bit more out of our melee weapons as you are now able to throw objects with a lot more precision. We will be looking at adding and improving melee weapons further in the future.

New patch, New dino! Introducing the Oviraptor

For the last two weeks we've been hard at work to bring in some new features including a new dinosaur, the Oviraptor, and a new weapon, C4. Ovi's may look like their Novaraptor peers but they're more nimble and leap from far away. Look away one moment and have a dinosaur in your face the next! C4 was added as a way of letting players secure boundaries by setting up explosives in an area they're not focusing on. They can be set up as a proximity mine of sorts or the detonator can be detached and they can be detonated remotely. In addition to this we've also been preparing some exciting new content that unfortunately just didn't make the cut for this update but we promise we'll have more coming for all of you soon!
In the mean time, enjoy the onslaught!

Patch Notes:

  • Added Oviraptor. A smaller and more nimble version of the raptor that leaps at you from a greater distance.
  • Added purchasable C4. Pulling the detonator off gives you the ability to trigger a remote explosion or throw them together for a proximity sensor.

  • Fixed dinosaur noises playing after death
  • Adjusted raptor size
  • TRex now stomps things in it's path
  • Items now centre on buy screen
  • Added iron sights to M16

Introducing 0.2!

Onslaught 0.2 is here! For this patch we've started do address various bugs and issues from our initial EA release. One thing that we added, that'll likely see ongoing revisions, is a brief tutorial video detailing how to dual wield weapons and quick reload. It's been incredible to see some of the high scores people have been achieving however we're looking forward to them going even higher as people are wielding dual assault rifles against hordes of incoming dinosuars.

The feedback and suggestions so far have been excellent and the team have been working on incorporating many community ideas into our existing internal roadmap. We're hard at work on some larger features for the game with our main priorities currently being to add depth and variance to gameplay. Among other things you'll see this being addressed with new enemies, environments, weapon customization and some other exciting additions.

We're early access because we really wanted to build something in conjunction with fan input to get a high quality and entertaining game so please keep the suggestions and ideas coming and we'll do our best to introduce them as we continue development. Thanks to everyone that's supported us so far!
