Detective Simulator postponed to 2022

Postponing a release date is seldom news one is happy to announce, but despite having to disappoint future gamers, it is the right thing to do.

The reason we are postponing Detective Simulator is simple: limited development resources. As you might know, we are developing several games simultaneously. For Gas Station Simulator and Winter Survival Simulator we released demo versions during the last Steam festivals and in both cases the interest in those games skyrocketed beyond anything we were expecting.

We received tons of feedback and suggestions and we decided to expand both games significantly. This in turn resulted in the need for more man power on those games. So we were facing a choice to either postpone all games by several months or postpone just a few games significantly and shift the development resources to the other games to release them with just small delays.

Detective Simulator is one of the games we already decided to postpone to 2022. We can’t give you a more precise date yet, but most likely note before the second half of 2022.

It’s not all bad news though. We intend to proceed with Detective Simulator in the same manner as we did with Gas Station Simulator, meaning release a demo before the launch, create a survey, gather feedback and suggestions and then implement those suggestions we like. That and more time at our disposal will in the end result in better game and that's what we believe is what really matters.

DevLog # “Surveillance”

Surveillance is a key part of a detective’s work and as such also plays a major role in the game itself. We also see tracking as part of surveilling your targets and for that purpose you will have access to a large variety of different tools at your disposal.

While you can sneak and follow your targets naturally, paying attention to your environment and for your target not to notice you, there are also other means. One of the easiest approaches is to plant a small tracking device on the person you want to follow. Once activated, you can use your phone or a dedicated tracker to accurately follow the target’s every move.

Tools like these make your life easier, but they are not bulletproof. A small tracker becomes less useful in large, crowded buildings. There you will have to fall back on your wits and instincts to get the job done. Technology only brings you so far.

When it comes to watching your target, we are looking at a similar situation. You don’t have to wait for hours on end to watch a target you know is likely to spend that time in a single place. You can use the appropriate gadgets to do the job for you. Plant a tiny camera in the room they will be at and watch the feed in the comfort of your office or car.

There are even cameras like this that are still small, but very rugged, waterproof and transmit their stream via satellite making them perfect for outdoor surveillance in adverse conditions. Just place it at an elevated position or hide inside a plant and your target will never know it’s being watched.
