  • Updated WIGZDoom to a more recent version
  • Changed some default settings for newcomers, like disabling SSAO.
  • Dropped support for the Tyne Deskstation

Project Absentia Episode 2 Development Has Begun

Project Absentia: Episode 2 development has commenced! We have some fascinating ideas, and are excited to make them a reality.

We will be announcing some more details here and on our Twitter, but here's a few sprites and descriptions to tide you over. We're avoiding major spoilers, we got a few twists up our sleeve.

This is Baphomet, the driving force behind Hell, who has united several factions of Hell with the common goal of taking the Orkan Corporation down. Don't let her fancy looks deceive you - never has a dice roll been this dangerous.

Meet the Hell Cultist! They are Baphomet's squad of dangerous, teleportation happy denizens. They are more dangerous than an Orkanpol. They also are very gender.

The Hell Mobsters come in various flavors. They are Baphomet's grunts and come variants - with colors and distinct voices to differentiate the two. Some will jump around and main dynamite and tommy gun - while others will stay grounded but throw much more lethal molotovs. Other variants will be tested out.

Finally, meet the Moogcubus, a giant bulldog augmented with plasma cannons and a cybernetic visor. He acts as an anti-air cannon in essence, and takes a massive beating before going down.

Those are a few of the enemies and bosses. More exist, but we want them to be a surprise, or if shown on Twitter earlier, a bit of a mystery of what they are.

We have a general goal summer. Might be sooner or later than that, we'll have a more firm idea within a month or two. We'll keep you informed.

There'll be more to come, stay tuned!

Early Access Episode 1 version 1.5.1

A small patch for PA (despite the size of the patch):

  • Optimize sprites/textures/brightmaps using a better tool called oxipng.
  • Remove unused sprites from Episode 1 (Early Access release only, not in demo).
  • Add new slider graphics! No more cruddy looking sliders in the menus!
  • Cutscene maps are now skippable with any key on the keyboard, or any button (aside Start/Back) on controllers.
  • Some upstream patches that fixed custom resolution issues.
  • Dropped support for the TI-84 Calculator and the Tandy 1000.

Early Access Episode 1 version 1.5a

Here's another patch.

  • Fixed some engine-side bugs and regressions that were patched upstream with GZDoom 4.10 and GZDoom 4.11 prerelease.

Project Absentia is on sale for 25% off!

Project Absentia is currently 25% off until the 15th of December! Grab yourself a copy of the ultra-violent flashcore movement shooter today!

Early Access Episode 1 version 1.5

Here's another patch to get you by as we get Episode 2 under way. This involves yet another (and hopefully the last for a while) save state rework.

  • Save states and config are now stored in your C:\Users\<>\Documents\My Games\WIGZDoom directory. This is to prevent occasional read-write issues on modern Windows and modernize GZDoom's save state/configs a bit. Your save states will break for sure. Welcome To Early Access.
  • Added Bullet Tracer effects to make hitscan/bullet attacks more obvious.
  • Several engine fixes.
  • Update WIGZDoom icon to reflect WIS branding.
  • Dropped support for the Motorola Powerstack.

For people with current playthroughs - your savestates will break. Use the beta branch ep1-1.4.3 to use the previous build. Older builds will be kept around as long as possible for people to finish their playthroughs on. Check out more information here.
