Hi all, today I wanted to take a look back at project reset, and explain some aspects of the production.
I first had the idea for project reset around November 2017, but didn't start true development until a month later. It was a very ambitious thing for me to undertake, I had never made a game before, and I did not know a single thing about coding. I had thought about making games when I was 13, but was discouraged due to circumstances. I began looking for help with this, as I cannot draw well, and I cannot make music. I contracted 2 people for art and music in the end, and all was going well.
Around a month after I had contracted the music artist, I messaged him asking how the music was coming, since the deadline for said music was soon approaching. He explained that he needed more time, so I gave it to him, because i understand time constraints. However, what I did not know, was the fact that not a single track was completed. He promised he would have the tracks done by the next week. I contacted him then, but he explained that he needed more time. I let him have it, but this soon became a recurring theme.
Jump forward to mid-november. I had delayed the game multiple times (The intended release was august 24th) and I was messaging him about every day at this point because he was not responding to me at all. It came to the point when I messaged him on one of his livestreams. He eventually sent me 1 track, the title screen music. He refunded my money, but at this point I had 2 weeks left to find another music artist, tell them what i needed, wait for it to be produced, and hope for no delays. I made the decision to have the game silent.
The art on the other hand, was sort of like the music, however, I did get what I had asked for. I will not go into detail about the artist. The art was delayed until around 1 week before release when I had finally gotten the sprites. Looking back at them, I can tell they were obviously rushed.
The dialogue had been started around December of 2017, and my part was finished around April of 2018. The re-write of the dialogue was finished before the august deadline. Reading back on the dialogue, it seems robotic and non-human, something that I should have revised. I take full blame for the flat character personalities. The other part was revised by the co-writer at the time, whose dialogue sections seem cheesy and cliche.
While I do feel an urge to change the game and revise it heavily (ie. Put more music in, revise dialogue, get better art) I feel that nobody would really care or play it again to see these changes. I could make a second project reset, however if i did i would not be able to release on steam as I lack funding.
As i see it now, Project Reset is a dead end. There is no demand for it, and I severely doubt there will be any demand at all for a revision or a sequel with greatly improved well, everything. You are welcome to leave your thoughts in the comments, but from the past few announcements, I don't see that happening.
I will probably not make another game, seeing the trainwreck the development of project reset was, and the eventual final product.
Thank you for reading this announcement.
CU 1.4
Content Update 1.4 will be a complete overhaul of the dialogue in the main story. This will take an estimated 1-2 months, so the release date is set for the latest possible time, March 31st. I doubt it will take that long, however, I don't like to delay things. Content update 1.4 will be the last update for project reset, apart from bug fixes. Support for the game will stop May 31st, 2019. If you have any questions, concerns, bug reports, or other stuff contact us at questions@teamreset.net
CU 1.3
Content Update 1.3 has been released, this update includes bug fixes and more content for the epilogue. CU 1.3 also includes an extra track in the soundtrack, the dlc for the soundtrack will be updated soon.
New features poll (For update 1.4?)
Good evening, or really, good night?
Anyways, this isn't really an announcement for the game, just wanted to get some input on some features you want added to the game.
So, comment below your suggestions for features/improvements to the game (Assuming people read these announcements).
Too sleepy to do that rn
Dannnnnnnnnnnnnn
Edit: I will also respond to questions in the comments.
Project Reset Update 1.3
Hi, it's me again.
Around January 31st the content update 1.3 will be released.
This update will contain more epilogue content, bug fixes, and dialogue fixes.
Note: Once the epilogue is finished, there will be No More content updates for the game. Bug fixes will still be released after the last content update.
Also, we have a discord server, that i've forgotten to mention every time I post an update, but I FINALLY REMEMBERED! You can join it here.
Dan,
Master of Master of at the end of every post
It looked better on paper, sorry
An announcement (2/2)
It’s time to finish what I started, an announcement?
Yes, I’m about 3 hours late.
Anyways, regarding the recent controversy around the writer, SoSheolH, while I personally have read all reviews and comments, I have chosen not to respond to the review that has around 30 comments.
Regarding the review MADE by SoSheolH, I do realize that it does affect the review score total, but I cannot delete reviews. The best I can do is flag it and wait for someone to take it down.
Regarding the bug reports, thank you, they will be fixed in a future update.
Also, the discussions tab, or forums for the game, were purged of 2 posts, both advertising translation services.
If you have any questions or want a more in depth version of this, contact me through discord: DanDev#6661 or email: questions@teamreset.net
Discord is preferred, by the ways.
Master of being 3 hours late,
Dan
An announcement (1/2)
1/2? not really, just kinda 0.2/2 if that works better, I guess.
The point is, after my long break I took from the game, I come back to this, but hey, that's what happens, I guess. Anyways, I'd love to explain things in more detail but it's six in the morning and I feel like collapsing on my keyboard, so ask me at four.
Master of fractions,
Dan
