The Silence Ends!

Hello QUASAR fans!

Sorry for the long and inexcusable silence, we've been hard at work on QUASAR over the last 5 months and we completely neglected to update our Steam page with each blog post we wrote. There's so many channels that a developer has to keep track of and unfortunately we let many of ours fall through the cracks.

But lets just get right to it. We've made some big changes to QUASAR since the last update here, and the game looks more polished than it ever has. A lot of people who had the chance to see the game at PAX West were surprised to hear it wasn't already released. Enough talk though, why don't I just show you?

Additions

  • Updated to UE4.11.1
  • ONSLAUGHT: Added new bomb plant sound
  • ABILITY: Turret now hovers and rotates around the ship independently, not attach to owning ship
  • Made modifications to ship movement code, tweaked smoothing when client is out of sync with server
  • Ship class description visible on start screen

Fixes

  • Bomb pick up and place sound effect playing again
  • Fixed crash caused by opening settings before selecting a ship (thanks @Jo351 http://community.quasargame.com/topic/90/home-button-causing-crash)
  • Beams from Beam Weapon no longer stick around when firing ship dies

Quasar Devblog #6

Continuing on with our design and features themed blog posts this week we’re talking about the Burst Laser. We introduced the Burst Laser in our build last weekend and it was received well by developers and testers alike. It definitely requires more precision like one of the weapons that fire at a much slower rate, but just like last weeks Rail changes this weapon change results in less hold and hope for the best and a little more thought about when to fire.

Quasar Devblog #5

We’re trying something a little different this week, and hopefully every week from this point on, writing primarily about the design and features of QUASAR. We’re really happy with the way Onslaught is shaping up, and it’s created a lot of fun and competitive matches between the developers and our testers, but one thing we’ve consistently seen and heard from our testers is it lacks variety in the weapons department. Our projectiles have all been press and hold, and aim towards the enemy. We’ve felt for some time that there needs to be some variety and this week we’re introducing you to one of these shiny new projectile types.

PAX South Plans and Giveaway

PAX South is quickly approaching so it's time we reveal some of our plans. We'll have a larger presence at PAX South than we did at PAX Prime with a total of six computers (graciously provided by NZXT) so that we can give the players at PAX South a real taste of what Quasar feels like. We intend on trying to get a team tournament going if possible.

In addition to this we'll be giving away the six monitors that we'll be using in the booth. Come by the booth at PAX South (#16050) and sign up for testing with us and you'll be automatically entered into the draw for the 24" Dell LED Monitors. Play a few rounds with the developers and we'll give you an extra entry into the give away! Winners will be notified by the end of each day of PAX South via the email they've provided, and can pick up their monitor at the end of PAX South.

Quasar Closed Alpha Has Begun

We've sent codes to all those who were interested in helping us test Quasar. We've chosen to test using a more traditional approach that doesn't involve players purchasing access to an in-development version of the game but rather through invitation.
