Quern: Undying Thoughts

Quern 1.2.0 is LIVE!

Quern 1.2.0 is here! This patch focuses on making Quern run better and look nicer. We also added Steam Cloud function to the game. This means your saved files are now stored in the cloud so you can play from a different computer and continue where you left off. We made some improvements to the user interface to work better with different screen resolutions.

  • Simplified Chinese and Polish languages added.
  • New graphical options are available to tweak both performance and quality.
We decreased the lowest and increased the highest possible graphics settings.
  • We fixed an issue that prevented loading between the game’s scenes on weaker systems.
  • Cloud save function is now available.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the controller bindings to be off on Linux systems.
  • Subtitles can be disabled from now on.
  • We optimized the user interface for any resolution.
  • Many minor and several major bugfixes.

1.1.0 and Czech language!

Hey guys,

Quern 1.1.0 is here! This patch focuses on making Quern a smoother and a more enjoyable experience. To make the game more accessible, we implemented some extra features for players less experienced with puzzle games. Besides all that, Quern runs better than ever before!

If you run into any bug in the game please be sure to start a thread about it here or email us about it at feedback@querngame.com

  • Czech language is added!
  • An ingame map is now available to better find your way around the island. Just hit the M button as you wander :)
  • There is now an option to ask for hints in the game. Useful if you‘ve been stuck for hours with no further ideas on what to do.
  • We received quite a lot of feedback about useful items not being indistinguishable from ambience. Now there is an option to highlight interactable objects in the menu.
  • We fixed a long overdue bug where some letters and hints showed up in unreadable quality when viewed on low graphics settings.
  • We also worked on optimisation. The game should now be a little more forgiving for less powerful computers and run noticeably smoother.
  • We implemented a system check - if your computer is under the system requirements, the game will alert you and give you tips.
  • Various bug fixes.
  • A less noticeable change is that the game has been saturated ever so slightly, making it a little more colourful.

Trading Cards & New Languages

Hey guys!

We’ve spent the last few months polishing Quern based on your feedback in reviews and our Discussions page. We seem to have tackled all kinds of technical issues and managed to bring the Quern experience for more people around the world by including four new languages: German, Italian, Russian and Spanish players now can enjoy the game in their mother tongue! We also implemented Steam trading cards.

If you run into any bug in the game please be sure to start a thread about it here or email us about it at feedback@querngame.com

  • German, Italian, Russian and Spanish languages added!
  • Trading cards are now available!
  • We (hopefully) fixed the problem some OS X players experienced where the inventory and the letters menu were completely black.
  • Some of you requested the completely strange feature to be able to climb DOWN the ladders. Now it is possible.
  • Even less places to jump out of the world and get stuck.
  • Notebook images now don’t lose quality after loading the game.
  • Sad news for speedrunners: saving and loading during the first few seconds now doesn’t let you skip most of the game. Time to find new tricks :)
  • There is now an option to adjust the volume of your footsteps and jumps.
  • The swamp isles saves a bit more of your work in case you forgot something there and want to return later.
  • The ladder in the north shore now doesn’t look like you can put in a few axes and still be able to climb it.
  • Optimization of the Alchemy and Botany area

New patch with a bunch of spoilers!

Hey guys! A few new features and some bugfixing comes with today's update. Read with caution, it has a few spoilers. If you run into any bug in the game please be sure to start a thread about it here or email us about it at feedback@querngame.com

  • As some of you requested, we have added an option to enable vertical synchronization in the menu
  • Now you can change the default WASD movement keys - Go to your library, right-click Quern -> Properties -> Set launch options… -> type in: -show-screen-selector On the screen selector click “input” and change the keys to your liking!
  • The fourth quarter of the mechanical safe key was a bit too difficult to find. We added a hint pointing out its location.
  • The cave puzzle... Yes, the one where you tried every combination upside down before figuring out you needed another hint. The existence of the other hint is now better indicated!
  • Who doesn’t reload the game after finishing it to see the other ending? The left side inventory is no longer stuck when reloading after completing the game.
  • Some of you who have jumped down the rotating ladders after loading the game, and tried to climb back up have experienced an unpleasant surprise of the ladder malfunctioning. Fixed.
  • The state of the lit/not that lit Crystal Lab is now saved properly.

Good luck explorers!

Update and launch!

First of all, thank you all for the great feedback about Quern so far! It puts smiles on our faces to see you guys play and talk about the game.

We put together the first major update for Quern based on your observations and bug reports, here are the patch notes:

  • Now it is possible to change your keyboard-bindings when using a controller. In fact, now you can select whether you want to use a controller or not.
  • The acheivement “Find what is hidden III” was so well hidden that you couldn’t unlock it even when you found it. Now you can.
  • Fixed an issue with loading games in the second part of the game.
  • The telescope no longer consumes your torch holder if you leave it there overnight.
  • Now it is possible to set the game’s resolution to your displays native resolution. Happy exploring on 4K and UltraWide!
  • Accidentally drew something that is not even interesting? Fear not! Now you can delete your sketches from the notebook.
  • “Pen and paper - Old School Gamer” achievement was limiting the player in using a cool feature, so we changed it to “The Brightest Scholar” and now it requires you to use the notebook even more!
  • We upgraded the artistic skills of the player. Now you can sketch anything! Even stuff in your inventory or the telescope.
  • The Simon says puzzle was modified to bring a bit more fun in the game. Now contains one more surprise.
  • Latin translations could stay on the screen even after closing the Letters menu. However it was pretty inspiring walking around with a text saying “By hard work, all things increase and grow”, we decided to get rid of it.
  • If you were more interested in parkour than puzzle solving, you could get stuck in numerous places, and had to reload the game for further parkour experience. Some of these places are now unreachable (thanks Ap616 :)).
  • Minor text fixes.
