Radio Free Europa

Minor Update 04.26.22

Added keyboard controls for boost and countermeasures.

Minor Update - Apr. 24

Thanks to feedback from players in the Discord!

This is a small update that includes:

  • Camera FoV saved between stages, max vertical FoV is 55 degrees
  • Difficulty listed on end game screen
  • All enemy rockets and missiles now can be shot down with DBurst
  • Battleship Tiberius has an extra turret
  • Bit-Crush filter less severe

Early Access Now Live!

The day has finally arrived, Radio Free Europa is available in early access as of now. The full 0.5 patch still is not quite ready, but to coincide with the early access launch I am updating the game to 0.5 Preview 6.

The main change is that the hardpoint where a weapon is installed determines if it's a turret or not. Some weapons cannot be installed as a turret, but otherwise if a weapon is installed to a turret hardpoint it becomes a turret version of that weapon.

There have also been a few new weapons, mods, and ship upgrades added.

The changes to the levels themselves are unfortunately not quite ready, nor is the full weapons rework. These are well on their way however, and while I don't want to promise a particular date it should be fairly soon!

There are some known bugs, such as scoring granting millions of extra points at the end of a level, but I would really appreciate any and all feedback and suggestions. You can talk to me here in the Steam Community, or come hang out on the Discord at https://discord.gg/PhJxbsc4Zg or the subreddit at https://www.reddit.com/r/RadioFreeEuropa

I truly appreciate each and every single one of you willing to take a chance on this game while it's still being worked on, and I look forward to working with you to make something we can all enjoy and be proud of!

Early Access Launches 4.18.22

EDIT: The game is still in the review queue, I will update with more news as it comes

The time has almost arrived:

Pending final review, Radio Free Europa will finally enter public Early Access on 4.18.22

This will include a massive number of new features, as well as extensive balance changes. Some previews of what's coming includes:

-Ammo magazines
-Reload Indicator
-Boost Ready Sound
-Save Games synced properly
-Game will automatically pause if the controller disconnects during gameplay or if another program takes focus (i.e. alt-tabbed)
-Salvage is sorted by type and cost
-New Weapons
-New Upgrades
-New Mods
-New Enemies

I am so excited to finally feel confident enough in the game to release it to the general public, and I want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported me this far, especially my patrons. I look forward to your feedback and I hope I can make something that is truly enjoyable for the people who want to play it.

Wishlist the game if you'd like to be notified and you haven't already, and get ready to make some noise in space!

0.5 Preview 5

This will be the last preview update before patch 0.5 proper, which will be the version where I put the game into official early access! I appreciate the patience of everyone who has been with me this far, we're so close!

This build is mostly bugfixes, but it also includes a few new features:

  • Installed upgrades are now listed in the ship screen, and there is a scaling cost to install more upgrades of the same class.
  • Weapon modifications can no longer be applied to weapons that they would have no effect on.
  • Salvaged Weapons should only have relevant mods installed on them now
  • Damage scaling applies to Damage Over Time now

There will be a few more small features in the actual 0.5 that didn't quite make it to this preview, but most of the additions will be content or balance as opposed to new features. 0.5 is by no means the end of anything, it's just the start in fact! I'll be working with the community to evolve the game into the best version of what it can be and that starts very soon. Like within a week soon. I am very excited, and I hope you are too!

0.5 Preview 4

Another step on the road to 0.5

Some highlights of this update include:

-Ship Spin Counter in hangar
-More Music
-All Menus updated to use MenuController interface
-Can select player ship color

0.5 Preview 3

This is a small update, bringing version 0.5 even closer to release. The main change is that end-of-level scoring is working properly now. There have been some other small bug fixes as well, mainly related to hitboxes.

0.5 Preview 2

There are a whole bunch of things I still want to add to the proper 0.5 update. I'm just uploading this because I finally have the salvage system in a functional state. Costs are not final or even sensible at the moment, and there are still elements that will be added to give more information about the effects of what you're doing, but it's functional and at least mostly not broken. 0.5 should come soon but for now, this will at least let people try the new menus and tell me where and when they are breaking.

-Ships flash when taking damage
-Intensity of damage flash is adjustable in options
-Ship lights dim when they are disabled
-Ship colors can be changed on the fly, started to standardize colors for each faction (WIP)
-Player ship colors as well as Enforcers are random (temporary)
-New Salvage and Upgrade system:
-Pickups collected from disabled ships and boss upon completion of level have chance to become salvage instead
-Salvage can be scrapped for resources or repaired and installed to upgrade the ship
-New menu system written from scratch for these menus (will be implemented to rest of menus in 0.5)
-Scoring works again
-Better transitions between levels
-Started implementation of time bonus at end of level
