Raiders of the Lost Island - a labor of love!
Nominate Raiders of the Lost Island for Labor of Love Award!
Here are a few fun facts about it that you probably didn't know:
Raiders of the Lost Island started at the Global Game Jam, back in 2017.
Inspired from board games like Forbidden Island and the way my kids wanted to grab those beautiful treasures for themselves, despite endangering the whole team.
It is my longest and biggest project as an indie game developer.
It is the game me and my family played the most.
Over 280 hours recorded in Steam, though we started long before the Steam version was ready.
My 2 kids grew up raiding together... well, most of the time one against each other :D
They just played today with their cousin. They lost :p
Good anger management tool. We still struggle - watch our live broadcasts :)
Created as a solo indie developer in my spare time. Lots of long nights and weekends... no regrets!
Over 4 years of development, in total 3646 work hours until today.
Released on 2 platforms: PC and Nintendo Switch.
Released on 4 stores: Steam, Nintendo Store, Itch.io, and Stove Indie.
Localized in 9 languages, including Korean now.
Payed me back about $1.5 per work hour so far, but who's in for the money anyway!?
Presented at Gamescom, Casual Connect London, Dev-Play, and many other.
Helped me make many new friends among indie developers and players.
Freshly updated after one year adding 50 skills... because my kid said she wants to play again :)
A few more features left in the design document. But that's a story for another time...
Keep close for more, as Raiders is here to stay! Alex
New Update: Raiding Skills
A fresh new update, with a brand new feature: RAIDING SKILLS! Level-up during your adventures by collecting XP coins, and choose from 50 skill cards, to refresh your raiding style.
How this works!? From each island you can collect one XP coin. It's worth 7 points, but most importantly, once you get enough of them (depending on the adventure length), your team will sail to a training island where each of you get to choose from a random selection of skill cards.
Some give you fighting advantages, some are used for surviving, some get you rich faster. There is one even to catch those rare baby birds when you crack the eggs. In total, there are no less then 50 skills to explore. And you can mix up to 3 of them, to find that winning strategy and drive your friends crazy!
And don't forget to review your equipped skills in the hideout.
Beside this, a few other changes, fixes, and improvements, like the new shiny coins. Here's a quick list:
now you must face the boat when you jump in, so you can fight easier around it
automatically take your skull key if you leave into the final raid without it
added master volume in sound options, and improved volumes control
easier to shoot upwards at items placed a bit higher than you
cool dance animation after doing the idle cool emote (Y,B)
polished the gold and silver coins a bit
new achievement: Party Bag
added Korean language
fixed moving in mud while loading the gun
small fixes and polishes (boat trails, rock the boat when jumping in, etc.)
I hope you'll enjoy this update, and equipped with the new skills, you and your friends will find your way back to the Lost Island. If you want to see us raiding hard join our live streaming on Steam Broadcast and on Twitch.
P.S. This week it all comes with a 50% SALE, so spread the word!
Have fun! Alex
