Rainy Day Racer, version 1.01

Hello! The first update for Rainy Day Racer is now live.

We've cleaned up the code and compressed the assets better; the download size and memory use is about half of what it was, the loading shouldn't hang as much, and it shouldn't randomly force quit anymore.

As mentioned elsewhere, we've also had to clear the leaderboards to support a new ghost format. We don't expect to have to do this again. Our apologies to you early record setters. Soy Fish, your legend will live on in our hearts forever.

Also:

Reworked the handling somewhat; drifting's a bit more loose and you'll now be swept around curves more smoothly. We'll continue to tweak it. Also, we're working on more restrained handling characteristics for the reverse courses, so that drifting isn't such a death sentence when the assistance is disabled.

Replays will work properly on reverse courses now. The system occasionally still puts the camera inside a wall, but we'll sort that next time.

Fixed the day/night cycle timing, and the sun, which will now - get this - actually revolve around the earth. Eagle-eyed players may have noticed that it formerly just sat there off the coast, glowering sinisterly.

That's it for now. Please report in on the forums if you encounter any other crashes or bugs. We'll have another update up next week to sort out some visual bugs and effects we're not 100% pleased with, and maybe the first of some extra features.

Cheers!

Crash bug

Just noticed there's a memory bug that fairly consistently causes the game to force quit after 10-15 minutes play. We thought we'd killed this one in development, but evidently not. Sorry about this. Please bear with us and we'll have it sorted ASAP. Thanks.

Rainy Day Racer, available now

Thanks for checking out Rainy Day Racer! The game's now available to buy on the store page.

You know the drill: we're a small team, it's our first game. We thank you for your patience in the event that you encounter any bugs or hiccups, and if you could report any such problems on the community forum that'd be very helpful.

We'll be updating the game over the next month or two with some extra bells and whistles, more effects and flavour, one or two extra features, probably some achievements. Please stay tuned for that. No new courses or vehicles, though.

Once again, thanks for checking out RDR (our one, not the marginally more popular cowboy one). Hope you like it.
