Raji: An Ancient Epic - Nominated for Best Debut Indie Game by The Game Awards!

Greetings everyone,

This year has been a really special one for us, in August we made the surprise announcement of our game launching on the Nintendo Switch, then on the 15th of October we launched the game on PC, PS4, and the Xbox One, and the reaction was simply amazing!

But the good times did not stop with the launch, last week on the 18th of November we received one of the best surprises possible, The Game Awards, one of the biggest awards in the gaming industry nominated us for ‘Best Debut Indie Game’!

As this is a public vote, we would like to encourage our community to check out all of the games nominated across all of the different categories, then vote for the games that you feel are most deserving of winning!

CLICK HERE OR ON THE IMAGE TO SEE THE NOMINEES

Do note that there are multiple categories, so to find Raji you’ll have to find ‘Best Debut Game’.

Fun Fact

Just days before we heard about our nomination, the development team were talking about this award but simply said that they were sure that they didn’t have a chance for a nomination, and so discussed what other games could be in. Imagine their surprise to hear that Raji ended up being nominated!

A huge thank you to everyone for supporting our game!

Thank you to everyone for playing Raji: An Ancient Epic!

Hello everyone,

It's quickly coming up to one month since Raji: An Ancient Epic launched on PC, Xbox One, and the PS4, so we wanted to write a special thank you to everyone in our community for their amazing support.

Though the launch has been a successful one, we've been watching all of your feedback, from feature requests to bug reports, and we are happy to let you know that we are hard at work on an update for the game. We don't have a specific timeframe just yet, so be sure to keep your eyes on us as we'll provide much more detail the moment that we're ready with it!

Discussing the Indian Game Development

One of our co-founders, Avichal Singh recently joined ancientOne on the 11th edition of 'The Bongshot' to talk about our journey developing Raji: An Ancient Epic. Be sure to check out the full discussion in the video below.

Note: the video discussion is 1h 32m so be sure to get comfortable!

Raji Fan Art

We want to end this post with a small call-out to the creative members of our community. Even before the full launch of our game, we've seen some amazing fan art, from drawing paper, to digital art, even all the way to live-streamed recreations of Raji in Blender.

We'd like to start highlighting and sharing some of these amazing works. So if you enjoy creating and sharing fan art, please do post your Raji fan art and tag us on Facebook or Twitter and use the hashtag #rajifanart.

So that's it for this quick update. Once again, thank you to everyone for your support!

Important Update to Raji: An Ancient Epic

Good afternoon everyone,

Launch week has flown by us and it’s been a really amazing experience to watch people from all over the world come together and enjoy Raji: An Ancient Epic!

We also noticed something really special from this community that we want to highlight. Simply put, the level of support that you have shown us-and-each other, and the way that you all have banded together to help bring awareness of the game to all corners of the internet has been frankly amazing. So, a huge thank you to everyone!

Post Launch Issues and Fixes

One thing that every game ever launched will have are a few nagging issues that are only picked up on after the game’s launch.

Why’s that you may ask? Surely we tested everything, so how did this happen?

The reason for this is down to the huge variance that exists from each PC set up. Take our studio for example, even between us where we use similar systems, what our Game Designer, Avichal Singh uses is different from what our Game Artists Ian Maude and Shruti Ghosh use, and it’s not just the hardware, it’s the software configuration. Now think about the countless number of people playing Raji and the hardware and software combinations will explode. From our side, we tested the game with over 40 different hardware and software configurations that covered the most popular specifications to ensure that everything was working well. With that said, we were always on standby in case unforeseen issues came up - and so we were ready to act when we began receiving reports from our community.

A huge thanks to our Game Programmers who have been hyper-focused on an update to Raji - one that we just pushed live now!

The Update - Listening to the Community

Our update covers two main points. The first is straight forward, we realized that there was an interesting exploit that allowed players to defeat the Chieftain very easily, the frustrating thing about this was that players could accidentally come across it and so would have their gaming experience somewhat damaged as the fight would become very anticlimactic, so we’re happy to have this bug fixed and we hope that you will be as well.

The second point is perhaps more important to a rather large group in our community, and that is the DRM. To give it to you short, this update has removed the DRM from our game, and so any bugs that are related to the DRM will vanish.

The point of DRM is always a very sensitive topic for gamers. On one hand, DRM can be vital to developers as it slows down (never stops) the more unscrupulous types from pirating the game. However, even the best of DRM will have its issues, sometimes it can block honest players who have done nothing wrong, or sometimes it can harm the game’s performance. That said, we want to be clear that our DRM did not impact performance, something we are very proud of.

With that said, looking at the feedback of our community, we saw that there were too many players that had purchased the game and were unable to play it - an unacceptable situation to everyone who works on the game. Then, we also had the players that for personal reasons extremely dislike DRM due to the reputation and nature of it, something that we have nothing against at all, after all, we are gamers at heart as well and can understand some of the sentiments behind it.

So, after listening to what our community has had to say, and after doing our best to try to help the innocent - but affected players - we made the decision (today) to remove the DRM from our game with this update. All you need to do is update the game and it will be gone.

Anyone that has had a problem with ‘[Cord] Game load failed’ should now be able to play.

Looking to the Future

We know that this update is a rather small one, however especially with the DRM issue, we are sure that you will all agree that this was a vital update. There are more things that need working and there are some other bugs that need squashing, so rest assured that we are now preparing work on a much larger update - but one that will take a bit longer to put together.

Now Supporting Hindi and Turkish Subtitles!

Hello everyone!

Launch week is finally here, just 3 more days until our game goes live, so we hope that you are all just as excited as we are!

Of course, just because it is launch week, it doesn't mean that the work stops. For the most part, we've been mainly focusing on fixing the lingering bugs, however, we were able to find the time to do something special for the game, thanks to a huge show of support from our community.

So, we are pleased to announce that Raji: An Ancient Epic now has Hindi and Turkish subtitles! We pushed out the update to the Steam Game Festival demo and our prologue versions early on Saturday so you can activate the new subtitles right away!

We are especially happy to be able to launch the subtitles now as we have been working with the tightest timetables possible, so it was a fun-but-tough challenge for us to have it ready for the game's launch!

We would like to thank everyone who contacted us requesting these languages, we always feel incredibly blessed to see that our community cares about the game this much.

Further News From Raji

For people that are playing the Raji demo via the Steam Game Festival, we realized that the version was slightly outdated (behind the Prologue version) so we have updated it to bring the demo to version parity. This update brought in a few much-needed bugfixes and small balancing changes.

Finally, we'd like to remind you that we are running a special Raji giveaway contest. Enter today to have a chance to win a copy of the PC (Steam) version of Raji: An Ancient Epic!

The event will run until 23:59 CEST on the 14th of October.

  • Winners will be contacted during the morning (CEST) on the 15th of October so that they know that they have won before the game's launch.
  • Prizes will be distributed in the form of Steam keys as soon as (humanly) possible after the game goes live!

Thank you very much and we hope that you're enjoying our prologue while you wait for the game's launch!

Your Chance to Win a Copy of Raji: An Ancient Epic on Steam!

Happy Saturday Raji Community!

We've got a special announcement for you. While we know that many of you here want to support us directly, (seriously, the comments that many of you have sent us about wanting to support us has been so nice), we still want to hold a special giveaway for our community to give you the chance to win a copy of our Steam version (full version).

So, this is your chance to win a copy of the PC (Steam) version of Raji: An Ancient Epic!

The Giveaway

All you need to do is visit our giveaway page that we've set-up on Gleam and complete the tasks, doing so will put you in a raffle to win a copy of the game!

How Does the Giveaway Work?

We've set up several tasks that you need to complete, however, you only need to complete the first one to be in the raffle.

The first task is to simply play the Raji: Prologue for a specified amount of time (don't worry, we've balanced it out so it's perfectly achievable).

Once you complete the main task, you'll unlock a few additional options that will grant you extra entries - increasing your chance to win!

This event will end on the 14th of October at 23:59 CEST and the winners will be announced on the 15th before the game launches, and the keys will be sent out once the game launches (naturally).

Once again, the link to the giveaway is here: https://gleam.io/PJdt5/raji-an-ancient-epic-giveaway

Good luck to you all!
