Dev Play 2019
We’ve got some fantastic news coming from Bucharest, Romania!
Last week, between November 7th - 8th, the Game Dev Conference for Eastern Europe, aka Dev Play, was held. During this event, our game (Raji: An Ancient Epic) won awards for:
The Best Game Design
The Best Game of the Show
The Best Visuals
To win these three awards is a feeling that is hard to describe, but needless to say that we are ecstatic to see our game get this sort of recognition!
Throwback Thursday
From time to time, we like to look back at our journey so far, after all, it has been an incredibly exciting one, filled with ups and downs (as all good journeys have) and it helps see how far we’ve come.
For this throwback Thursday, we’re looking at the time our musical composer, Linos, jammed with a local maestro. The outcome was bliss for our ears and a good time for anyone nearby!

The Pillar Attack
Special attacks are a major part of combat in our game, so we’re dedicating this week to the Pillar attack.
We’ve put together a short special video to show you how we first tested the attack in our test environment, and then what it looks like in the game now.

This week we’re focusing on new content, from new demons to a first look at an all-new level, all while saying a fond farewell to Blocktober.
New Level and the end of Blocktober
October has come to an end, bringing our fun Blocktober coverage to an end with it, but we’re ending things with a bang as this is a great opportunity to tease an upcoming level that we recently tested in the block phase.
[previewyoutube="54XGOKCTtU0;full"]
This new level is set in the capital city, and our heroine Raji has to fight her way through new types of demons to get to her goal.
Speaking about new demons, let us properly introduce...
The Jalsura
In our teaser video, you may have noticed some new enemies that fight in very different ways, a giant eyeball, and a flying demon. The giant eyeball is called the Jalsura and you can see it in action here.
[previewyoutube="0hG_9YI1XMQ;full"]
That’s it for this update, though it is short, we hope that you can agree that it is packed with a lot of new things.
We’re aiming to release the game sometime in Q1 of 2020 and until then we will be hard at work developing our game.
In the meantime, you can get a feeling for our game by trying our demo, available here on steam. What’s more, we will update the demo before the full game’s release as we’ve made a lot of changes to the game since the demo was first created.
Be sure to follow us on our main social media channels for all the latest Raji news.
Raji Weekly News Blast - Introducing the team dogs!
Hello and welcome everyone!
The weekly Raji news blast is back, and this week we are continuing with our theme of Blocktober, and (maybe more exciting for our community) we are also introducing the Raji team dogs!
Blocktober Continues
In our last news blast, we introduced Blocktober to you, telling you what it was, and why we're taking part as well. If you haven't read the post yet, we do recommend that you check it out first.
So for this news blast, we have two Blocktober videos to share with you.
Bloctober - Wall Run
The first looks at the before and after of the first Wall Run that Raji is forced to perform.
[previewyoutube="hIywsQRLQtU;full"]
Blocktober - Combat
The second video looks at combat. Notice how in the blocking phase, we had already planned for the tutorial by making notes on the ground itself. Also, some of the block encounters were found to be a bit too hard (like fighting three Gadasura demons) so we toned it down a little bit to two.

Raji Team Dogs
Meet the Raji team dogs! These dogs are one of the main reasons why we've managed to maintain our sanity while developing Raji: An Ancient Epic!
All of them were taken in from the streets and are now vital members of the team!
From the mouth of the Raji team, the dogs in the photo are: Killer is in the mix three times... cheeky chappy. From top left, we have Benji, little Patch, Killer, Left middle row, Hailey [the Alpha], Zia [Killers sister] and Peter, Bottom left, Killer, Killer again and then we finish with Nimi.
We're missing Mr G. Goldie. Each one has their own story, Nimi was only meant to stay with us until her leg healed - she was hit by a car, we'll spare you the details. Once she was fit and well, it was I who said, I can't let her go, Normally it's Shru.
Shru organized a Rabies vaccination drive a while ago in the local area with a couple of dog groups where they would go out and vaccinate as many of the dogs over a weekend. Before releasing they'll be rewarded with nice reflective collars and a few treats.
Work In Progress
We're ending this week's post by taking a look at a WIP video, taken from an upcoming level that we are working on for the game.
[previewyoutube="zMPLjuGGeuA;full"]
The peaceful scene is quite different from the regular war-torn scenery that we've shared from Raj: An Ancient Epic so far.
We hope that you've enjoyed this news blast and we'll be back next week with more awesome videos and photos from the world of the Raji developers!
Raji News Blast - Introducing Blocktober!
Hello and welcome everyone.
If you follow game development in general, you may have heard about Blocktober. This event takes place in October, and is a small celebration of the art of level design.
If you want more information about Blocktober, we recommend that you check out Gamasutra's article on the event!
If you follow our Social Media channels, you would have seen that we have shared quite a few videos that show the game in its block format.
Videos such as these proved to be very popular:
[previewyoutube="3SVO3Z6L4-Y;full"]
[previewyoutube="88aeiseh4Fk;full"]
However, in most cases, the in-game implementation of the feature ended up being slightly different. This gave us a unique opportunity to create new before-and-after videos that line up with Blocktober, and also show you the progress that we've made in the game's development.
So, without further ado, here is the first of this year's Blocktober videos:
[previewyoutube="wOcv31OMnmY;full"]
A fun fact about this video, the developers were not really aware of the progress on the game, even though they're the one's doing the work. However, after seeing this video, they had a big 'omg that's awesome' moment.
We hope that you enjoy these videos as well, we'll be sharing a new Blocktober before-and-after video each week, so be sure to keep your eyes on us!
Raji: An Ancient Epic - Looking at Events Part 1
If you’ve been following us, you may remember that in our last news blast we told you that we’ll be doing a write up of the events that we’ve been at.
The time has come and this week we’re looking at Gamescom and EGX Rezzed!
EGX Rezzed
Earlier this year in April, thanks to ID@Xbox, Raji: An Ancient Epictraveledd over to London, UK, to be a part of EGX Rezzed!
The event was a great success, with everyone from players to the other event hosts noticing Raji and the amount of attention that it attracted!
Gamescom 2019
Gamescom, held annually in Koln, Germany, is the biggest gaming expo in Europe, so it is only natural that we really wanted to be a part of it. Once again, our great friends at ID@Xbox picked us up and brought Raji to Germany!
The Raji team themselves were not able to attend this event in person as they were extremely hard at work on the game’s development, but here is a quick video of what the event looked like:
[previewyoutube="9euutqw6S8g;full"]
A Look at the Game
This particular news blast has been rather short, so we’ve got an extra video of the game to share.
[previewyoutube="pD8w9ptURTU;full"]
What is special about this video clip? Well, it shows two very important parts of the game. Firstly, this video is taken from our upcoming new demo so it will be new for most of you. Here you can see that we’ve given Raji a new way to cross over broken paths. At the same time, we’ve worked on improving the art and visuals of the game, from the fantasticly detailed background to smaller more subtle additions such as hidden art that you can only really notice if you slow down and look closely at the game!
That’s it for now, we hope that you’ve enjoyed this! We’ll be back next week with a round-up of our final two events - ID@Xbox Open House and PAX - MIX!
