Rank: Warmaster News and Updates May 24, 2022
Greetings, Warmasters and Candidates! This is the newsletter for May 24th, 2022, the second May newsletter. Most of the updates have been to the tutorials to make them explain things better, and fixing the problems that came up during testing. Also some bloom refinement has been accomplished.
Quality of Life The tutorials have been the main focus, as have been likely noticed. A LOT of refinement has been done to Tutorial 1, to explain things better based on feedback, and now tutorial 2 is also getting that same treatment. It can be amazing of all the small things that need to be updated and tweaked while polishing the tutorials. Everything from commands not quite working right, to better explanations of concepts. A good example is the addition of the feature of targeting an object in front of you. This may sound useless, but it's very important in a dog fight when you have a better target of opportunity in front of you want you want to quickly switch targets to that ship!
Artistic Update
A lot of bloom tweaks have been implemented. Shields now have create a different glow about them, and they no longer block bloom effects like the sun or other light sources. In the above screen shot, you can see a lot of personal battle damage on the shields, and the other ship has their shields being lowered from the reactor no longer working.
Buildings are being finalized with better emissive effects, and many of the ships have also been updated. Expect those updates in the next release!
Short-term RoadMap
Tutorial 1's updates have been implemented and only a few tweaks are left. We will see what the playtesters thinks about it. Tutorial 2 is coming along nicely explaining research, building ships and a base, and even ship design. While not yet completed, still covers a lot of gameplay ground. While the tutorials are tested, a lot of minor (and major) bugs are being tracked and fixed. So while the tutorials may seem to be taking a while, and they are, they are also acting as a quality assurance for the main game since the problems they find in the testing are being fixed one after another.
That's all for this update, stay tuned for more news next time! If you'd like to give Rank: Warmaster a try for yourself, pick up a copy on Steam and begin your conquest of Mars!
BLOOM! A major graphical engine update! Emissives now look correct among MANY other things!
Tutorial 2 and 1 advancements and fixes. (Still WIP)
Implemented new "Click Here" effects for tutorials to make them more obvious. WIP for implementing them in the tutorials.
Fixed issue with multiple lights on a single ship object.
Objectives text now have a backdrop to make them more legible.

Rank: Warmaster News and Updates May 10, 2022
Greetings, Warmasters and Candidates! This is the newsletter for May 10th, 2022, the first May newsletter. The main update this time is an engine update to put a more modern version of bloom into the game. And it really makes a difference!
Quality of Life The tutorials have been the main focus of late, and this update is no different. Tutorial 2 is fully entered but still requires a lot of QA to make it considered complete. A lot of work has been put in to making some of the instructions and where to click more obvious. With integration with the new bloom implementation, this really has come out nicely. The objectives now have a backdrop to make them far more legible.
Artistic Update
The big update is the addition of modern bloom effects. While bloom has been in the game for a while, it was realistically an antiquated version of it. The new version is for more impressive, as you can see above. Even something as simple as engine plumes really standout now. Emissive (light sources) on the buildings and ships look like they are supposed to, and even the look of the beams and pulses look much better. As time goes on, tweaking will be done, of course, but it really is a impressive upgrade!
Short-term RoadMap
Because of marketing shifts, the AI hasn't been worked on, but tutorial 2 was the primary focus. Also for marketing reasons, the new bloom implementation was given a higher priority but is completed. The tutorials are now having a lot of testing done on them to find and fix flaws. While the AI has kept been getting delayed, the hope is after the flaws are removed from both tutorials, the AI can finally be worked on properly.
That's all for this update, stay tuned for more news next time! If you'd like to give Rank: Warmaster a try for yourself, pick up a copy on Steam and begin your conquest of Mars!
Greetings, Warmasters and Candidates! This is the newsletter for April 26, 2022, the second April newsletter. The main update this time is the updating of the buildings in PBR style and corporation striping as well as our New Trailer! Please see the first video on our steam page!
Quality of Life Some bugs were found in the production version of tutorial 1(Prologue 1), and seems to have been fixed. A lot of work has been done on Tutorial 2 (City Building/RTS). It is down to a few final changes. While most of the time spent has been to finish up Tutorial 2, along the way, a lot of small things have been fixed along the way during testing, mostly in the Quick-Designer. Clicking default will correctly calculate you new design, and Roles will now change what the design looks like (specifically for the Cargo Ship Role).
Artistic Update
All the buildings now have the corporation striping as well as their PBR attributes tweaked. They also have more spot lights attached and lighting animations than before. As we progress, more of the ships will now be concentrated on for the visual updates.
Short-term RoadMap
Because of marketing shifts, the AI hasn't been worked on, but tutorial 2 was the primary focus. With that wrapping up, the AI will finally get the attention it's long needed. Some minor updates have already happened with the defaults of designs.

Rank: Warmaster News and Updates April 12, 2022
Greetings, Warmasters and Candidates! This is the newsletter for April 12, 2022, the first April newsletter. The main update this time is some long standing visual and control issues in the Navigation (RTS) screen.
Quality of Life
Progress is being made behind the scenes on tutorial 2 (Prologue 2), the city building tutorial. Expect a major update in the next release. In the mean time, a button on the title screen goes to a YouTube video from our multiplayer test channel that should work as a tutorial for now, while the in-game tutorials are being worked on.
The main change is a long standing issue in the Navigation Screen (RTS). Several things have been addressed, one of which is accurate picking of the ground. This should finally once and for all get rid of the "jitters" upon placing a building. Another update is the long standing bug that sometimes made the terrain disappear or appear in the wrong place. This was actually caused by a syncing issue to the terrain generator thread and the main game thread. In essence, it was using the wrong spot to generate the terrain from. Another update is built cities should be more visible at a distance, even from low orbit. While not perfect, it is still a far better feel that before.
Artistic Update
The buildings are still being updated with the new "striping" style. Some other ships and even new ships will be added soon with their PBR updates.
Below is how things look in orbit around mars. It is amazing how far things have come from some of the original pictures of this.
Short-term RoadMap
The City building tutorial is currently getting the most attention, which is also why there were so many updates and fixes to the RTS side of the game. Expect a new and updated trailer very soon!
That's all for this update, stay tuned for more news next time! If you'd like to give Rank: Warmaster a try for yourself, pick up a copy on Steam and begin your conquest of Mars!
Greetings, Warmasters and Candidates! This is the newsletter for March 29, 2022, the third March newsletter. The main update this time is the updating of the buildings in PBR style. The ability to customize a game is progressing.
Quality of Life
The first tutorial (Prologue 1) seems to be solid now. Much more effort has been placed on other things, but between the reloading ability and stability improvements, I think it can be declared done (barring other feature enhancements).
Some customizations associated with the PBR updates is the ability to change the primary, secondary and emissive color that your starting corporation has.
More quality of life is coming with some AI updates. More on that in the future.
While it may not help for general use, a lot of debugging works has been done on the playtest builds which should help us to track down bugs far easier than before.
Artistic Update
All the buildings have been updated to be PBR, however only the reactor and the factory have the identifying stripes on them. Four ship hulls have been given the PBR and stripe treatment. As mentioned in the last update, the stripes are what allows each corporations holdings to be visually uniquely identified. Expect a lot of updates in this area as more models get this treatment. Watch for those updates over the next month or so.
Short-term RoadMap
The AI is being worked on full time now. Expect updates around how the AI designs ships as the next update. The tweaking of the corporation screen and how it integrates into the main game is a top priority to polish. A lot of work has been put into a new trailer as well, which hopefully will be released soon!
