DEVELOPMENT UPDATE # 7





This update highlights the changes made during the most recent steam update (alpha version 0.7.1) which is now live on steam. This update addresses a lot of bugs and quality of life fixes as well as game improvements as we head closer to a Beta release. The main areas of the game addressed with new updates are as follows; Combat, Boss Fights, Player Controls, Visuals and Sound. Detailed patch notes listed below;

Combat:



The Combat system in Rawshire was long overdue for an update, with a new lock on system that focus on player feedback, I am excited for the alpha testers to experience this new update!



BOSS FIGHTS:



It is important that the Boss fights in Rawshire feel both challenging and rewarding! Before this update I found that the Boss fights were tedious and very easy to exploit. I am hoping this update will give the alpha testers a run for their money, as well as bring the challenge level up (but not too much).



STORY FLOW:



More effort was put into the planning and flow of the games story, I am looking forward to implementing these elements as the development continues. That includes updates and changes coming to both the codex system and the abilities systems in the game!



BUG FIXES:



Number of bug fixes were addressed including, Soft-locking when fast traveling after a checkpoint, Camera clipping, UI counting bugs, backend fixes and more. See full list below

This update includes:

STORY
- Minor Updates to opening cutscenes
- Smoothed out some of the tutorial context and transitions
- improved tutorial placements and trigger system
- Added Story elements to post/pre bost fight
- Implemented cutscenes for Sanctuary (Home World)

UI/UX
- Made updates to the codex system (images and text), these updates to the codex system will continue as the game gets closer to completion
- Fixed some sound control issues (still a work in progress)

SOUND
- Continued adding and improving the sound in game (work in porogress) need more sounds as lots are missing.

BACKEND
- Fixed issue with checkpoints that caused a softlock.
- Implemented more quality of life improvements on the development side.

PLAYER CONTROLER
- Added the beggings of a status system (Poison, Frozen, and Stunned status effects)
- Corrected some of the camera collison algorithim

ENVRIONMENT IMPROVEMENTS
- Enhanced Mystic Caves asthetic
- Added more burnable vegattation in Mountain Valley
- Fixed lighting issues (work in progress)

PUZZLE SYSTEM
- fully implememented puzzles for the first 4 Dragon Soul portals
- Added sound effects to buttons

COMBAT
- Fixed the Risen mirroed movement adding randomization to their movements
- Added the ability to apply status effects (right now fire) to enemies
- Added new lock on system (not automated) which better highlights enemies and ensure an element of skill is required
- Fixed bugs with Torturk enemy making it to easy
- Worked on Rhinto and Drakona enemies to be introduced in the Snow Plains

BOSS FIGHTS
- added a more direct goal to Titan boss fight
- gave the Titan Boss the ability to "get frusterated"
- started adding visual and sound effects to Titan fight
- started planning updates to the King fight (will be implemented in the next update)

BUG FIXES
- fixed some bugs found with controls
- fixed softlock when fast traveling with a saved checkpoint
- fixed teleportation bugs in Sancturary
- Bug fixes applied to many combat systems
- Bug fixes applied to the player status system

WHATS NEXT:



Alpha 0.7.2 will continue focus on Combat, Boss Fights, and AI, as well as the next zone release of the Snowy Plains.

DEVELOPMENT UPDATE # 6





This update highlights the changes made during the most recent steam update (alpha version 0.7.0) which is now live on steam. This update addresses a lot of bugs and quality of life fixes as well as game improvements as we head closer to a Beta release. The main areas of the game addressed with new updates are as follows; Puzzle System, Collection Mechanics, Minor Combat Adjustments, UI/UX design, Story Elements, and Game Flow/Feel. Detailed patch notes listed below;

PUZZLE UPDATES:



The puzzle system for Rawshire has been enhanced. There are now a more cohesive set of puzzle tools and interactable objects for the player to explore. They also fit more cohesively with the lore of the game. These new items include a secret portal that the player can find and unlock new areas of Rawshire.



COLLECTION UPDATES:



Since the implementation of the CODEX system, it has been expanded upon to include a reward based system. This means that for each discovery you receive experience and or skill points to help build and push your character development forward. This system also includes the new "Lost Soul" events which can be viewed in the CODEX under the Ancestors tab. These events require the player to solve a puzzle and then traverse through the secret portal to save (or not) the trapped Lost Dragon Soul. The Lost stones have also been hidden in each level, good luck!



UI/UX UPDATES:



The UI/UX design for the Main menu, Pause Menu, Level complete Menu and loading screen have been updated (again) to better fit the design and address feedback from the play testers. This will be an ongoing process of continuous polish to ensure all UI systems are working and looking amazing!

STORY FLOW:



More extra effort went into ensuring that the level transitions, cutscenes, title screens, etc. feel and flow seamlessly without hindering the game experience. More Story elements were added to each level, including a revamp of the story intro adding the first player choice! Also added interactive dialogue in the game, and new cutscenes.



New player choice to start the game. Allows the player boost their stats (or hinder) for the start of the game!

- New cutscenes when entering the Sanctuary at specific moments throughout the story
- Added card based choice system to start of the game (to be expanded upon in the Lost Soul Events)
- Added dialogue system with Mother to increase lore and player direction
- Added story dialogue after Boss defeated
- Re-did the story intro scene, still needs work but in what is considered an alpha state.

This update highlights the changes made during the most recent steam update (alpha version 0.6.3) which is now live on steam. This update addresses a lot of bugs and quality of life fixes as well as game improvements as we head closer to a Beta release. The main areas of the game addressed with new updates are as follows; Collection Mechanics, UI/UX design, and Game Flow/Feel. Detailed patch notes listed below;



COLLECTION UPDATES:



Since Rawshire The Last Hatchling is a collectathon, so in this update the player can now collect and record many of the wonderful locations and interesting things they find in Rawshire. This update adds the CODEX system.



Players can now register all their new discoveries in the in-game codex and look back on them for extra added Lore and story elements. Some secret stones are also scattered throughout Rawshire. Its up to you to find them!

UI/UX UPDATES:



The UI/UX design for the Main menu, Pause Menu, Level complete Menu and loading screen have been updated to better fit the design from the last update. This will be an ongoing process of continuous polish to ensure all UI systems are working and looking amazing!



The skill tree update includes in menu particle effects and decal updates;

DEVELOPMENT UPDATE #4

DEVELOPMENT UPDATE #4:



A new Alpha update is live on Steam! It is addressing a lot of the bugs and issues discovered by the Alpha testers since alpha version 0.6.0 was released in Jan. However, it's main focus is to continue adding features to Rawshire The Last Hatchling; in-particular Player Progression. This update includes some new player abilities, new player controls, new UI elements, a bunch of backend fixes and more! Detailed patch notes listed below;



PLAYER PROGRESSION:



Some much needed TLC has been given to the player progression system! Both the Player leveling up and stat system as well as the Infamy system.



Players can now Level up and gain skill points which can be used on different stat modifiers from the skill tree menu!



They can also unlock new abilities like free flight and elemental attacks!

NEW PLAYER ABILITIES:



A bunch of new player abilities can be unlocked if the player has leveled up enough. Each ability is dependent on how the player plays... the more evil the more powerful the abilities! The more good, the more honorable the abilities! It is up too you how you play!














UI UPDATES:



Both the Skill Tree UI and the Map UI were updated! Fast Travel can now be done through the UI menu if the player has beaten the level already.




BOSS UPDATES:



Both the first two Boss' got some minor AI updates. Each Boss also received a UI update. This update includes the Boss health bar which is activated during the Boss Fight!





BUG FIXES:



A number of bugs related to player controls have been addressed. Also camera placement has been addressed in this build with future bug fixes regarding the camera yet to come.


WHATS NEXT:



Alpha 0.6.2 which will address the Flow of the game and the gameplay transitions! It will also add some more story elements to Rawshire!

Development Update #3

DEVELOPMENT UPDATE #3:



A new Alpha update is live on Steam! It is addressing a lot of the bugs and issues discovered by the Alpha testers over the last few months! However, it's main focus is to continue adding features to Rawshire The Last Hatchling; in-particular the UI. This update includes some new levels, new enemies and NPCs, a whole new UI for the Pause and Main menu's, new tutorial and questing system, and the start of adding story elements to the game.



NEW TUTORIAL:



The tutorial system has been reworked to be real time events, this will be the same system used for story elements! It will allow the player to interact more freely and allow players to learn at their own pace!

New edition of the elder dragon, who will teach the player how to survive in Rawshire!



Even teach the player to fly!



NEW CHARACTERS:



During this update, two new characters make their debut; The Skorpi, and the Cave Kuappa!

NEW LEVELS:



The mystic caves zone had a new puzzle system introduced that was added to the first two levels of the Mystic Caves! It also has the first draft of the new Mystic Caves Boss (The King). Alpha testers will be excited at this new challenge!





NEW UI:



The biggest part of this update is the new and improved UI! There is still work ongoing for the cohesiveness and finalization of the color scheme and font, however this new UI adds a lot of quality of life improvements and is a big step up from the previous iteration! DEVELOPMENT UPDATE #2

DEVELOPMENT UPDATE #2:

A new alpha update is coming that is addressing a lot of the bugs and issues discovered by the Alpha testers over the last few months! Not only that but some quality of life and new features have been added to the game including a more burnable and destructive environment, a reactive HUD display, and new enemies and levels!






NEW CONTENT:

With this update there is a bunch of new content, including the new and elusive MYSTIC CAVE zone. Three new levels as well as 1 new Boss battle (The Scorpion King).



These three new levels have introduced some new Puzzles for players to solve, and some new Enemies!

**Environment reveal is coming for the Mystic Caves.

NEW ENEMIES

Scorpions: Found in the caves, these bugs mean business
Drakona: These two legged lizards are quick and agile, be sure to be cautious as you travel through Rawshire!



**Character reveals are coming for both these characters within the next few weeks.

UPDATES:

For the last few months, I have been hard at working trying to address all of the issues and suggestions that the alpha testers have given me. Some of the new features and elements add a lot more depth to the game play and really start to bring Rawshire to life!



- Reactive HUD (as you pick up items, level up, loose health etc. your HUD will appear accordingly in the top portion of the screen)
- Burnable Vegetation (More vegetation and trees are now burnable with new fire mesh effects that add a sense of realism)
- Ambient Animals can be Killed: A lot of people wanted to be able to burn or kill the butterfly's and birds that fly around the different levels of Rawshire (weird people....) so i made it happen!
- Better Visual Effects (I have added new effects that occur around the main character when you perform good or evil actions, as well as when you level up. The plan will be to expand this system in the future)
- Melee attacks (that's right, you can now melee attack enemies
- Added strafing locomotion (see below)

There are two other new elements to the game that I wanted to highlight;

NEW ENEMY LOCK-ON MECHANIC

Inspired by games like Legend of Zelda, the main character can now lock on to enemies and strafe!



NEW PAUSE MENU

All the menus in the game will be getting a face lift (probably a few times throughout development), but the pause menu got its first big face lift in a while!



This update will launch in July!

In this development update we go over some of the new features released to the current build, as well as some of the upcoming features coming to Rawshire The Last Hatchling! We also have our first batch of WORLD REVEALS and CHARACTER REVEALS that will be coming as the development continues.





Version 0.4.0 - Alpha UPDATE:
- New Environment update with improved grass/tree/bush wind effects, interactive grass, and ambient creatures (birds, bugs etc.)
