End of 2023 Update

Hello survivors

The year is coming to an end and we are of course still busy preparing the Closed Alpha version of REBORN Survival.

Of course, we were not idle during the Christmas season and added a few little things and fixed a few things.

This is just a small update, but you might still find it interesting.

Flashlight equipment



We have decided against a flashlight that has to be held. Flashlights now have an equipment slot. This means that you can easily equip them.







Rain & Snow



The world reacts to weather conditions.
This means that rain & snow influence the landscape.
Snow, for example, remains in place and changes the appearance of the entire map








Impulse on last hit



Killing zombies should be fun and feel satisfying. That's why we've added the new blood effects and a kind of impulse. Depending on the type of weapon, zombies and other enemy types are thrown backwards a little.

Of course, this varies from weapon to weapon. Accordingly, it is much more impulsive at close range with a shotgun than with a pistol, for example.

Update News - December 2023

Dear Community

A lot has happened at REBORN: Survival over the last few months.
We have invested an incredible amount of time and have a lot of new things to show.

We are still a long way from showing the perfect game.
And that will probably never be the case. Nevertheless, we are more than happy with the progress and can't wait to enter the world of REBORN together with you.

But now to the news

Our map designer is working tirelessly on "Colorado".
We have decided to open a section of the map for the closed alpha phase. Accordingly, not the whole map will be playable at once. This gives us time and takes the pressure of completion off. This allows us to put much more love into the details. The first location is the "Norad Military Base"

There are also other small locations, but they are not worth mentioning at the moment. Nevertheless, we don't want to withhold the screenshots from you.

The next larger location will be a residential area. Work is already underway on this. Screenshots will be coming soon!










New blood effects & decals



New blood effects & decals have also been added. We want killing zombies to be fun and look good too.
We are very happy with the result and hope you like it just as much.




Don't feel like running? Drive!



One feature the community wanted was vehicles. I can tell you, it's not easy to create working vehicles that also feel good. But we think we are going in the right direction. They feel good but are not yet perfect. We will put more work into vehicles.





Airdrops



Airdrops were another feature requested by the community. These can be called via a flare. However, they will also appear on the map at random times.

These airdrops contain items in military quality but also items that are only available in airdrops. This should make it more interesting to claim a contested airdrop for yourself.





Quality of Life - Loot all



A small quality of life function is the "loot all" feature. This gives you a kind of quick loot function. This means that all items from a container or a corpse are transferred directly to your inventory. As long as you have the space for it.



Special zombie types



We are in the process of adding more zombie types. These will of course be less present than normal zombies. But more often in more dangerous places.

Among them is the sprinter zombie.
It has slightly more health points than normal zombies, is just as fast as the player character when sprinting and strikes faster.

This is also still a work in progress, but it is our 2nd special zombie alongside the Heavy Zombie.



As you can see, we are working on all fronts.
We hope you like what you see because we are proud of the progress we have made over the last few months.

As mentioned above, we can't wait to give you access. This should be in the foreseeable future.

Update News 23.09.2023

Dear community

For a long time we have not heard anything about the development status of REBORN:Survival here on Steam. However, this does not mean that there is no news. The latest information is always available on our Discord server.

So if you are interested in the latest pictures, updates and polls. Join our official Discord server. This is the best way for us to communicate with you. Also subscribe to our youtube channel so you wont miss anything.





But now more about our current state...



We have been working on the weapons and animations. As you can see in our new screenshots. It was especially important to me that the gunplay feels good. No matter if against players or against the AI.
We are still not 100% satisfied, but we are on the right track.




I had already uploaded a video on Youtube a few months ago. This video should show how zombies react to shots. For example, that they are pushed back. Depending on which part of the body you shoot.




We believe that these reactions make battles feel even more satisfying. The shooting reactions differ from weapon to weapon. Whether small or large caliber. The same is true for melee weapons.

Skillsystem & Progression



We have also started to implement the skills system. This should provide a kind of character progression without being unfair for other players.

This includes things like: stamina consumption, food consumption, drink consumption, melee damage as well as increasing the maximum weight the character can carry. Crafting and trading skills are also planned. More about this later.




Colorado & Lighting


Some map work may not be missing, of course. We have worked a lot on the lighting and are more than satisfied with it. It looks very inviting to us and we hope you see it the same way.




Also "once again" a new main menu was worked on. In the meantime we are satisfied with it. But there will be some changes in the course of time.

A new feature is that REBORN:Survival will support Nvidia DLSS & AMD FSR3 from BETA release.

Update News 27.02.2023

Hello dear players

It was quiet around the development of REBORN for a long time.
I can promise you that we are still working on REBORN.

Many things have been adapted, changed and overhauled.
I would like to talk to you about some things. Many things are still in an unfinished state, but give us a good basis to start and implement these features as we would like to have them.

Player animations / weapon animations



Most of the time was put into the weapons. We currently have 7 range weapons and 3 different melee weapons. Personally it is very important to me that firefights feel good. Of course there will be some optimization and tweaking. But we are on a very good way.








Among other things, we worked a lot on the First Person View. It's still not 100% finished but it gives you a first impression how the first person will look like in REBORN.

It is very important to me personally that the first person feels and looks good. There were 2 possibilities, either you go for separate first person / third person animations or you go for the "true first person method" where all first person things are basically third person animations. We chose the second method and I am actually very proud of the result.






UI Rework



There is a reason why the general interface is rarely seen in video. I am absolutely dissatisfied with it. But that is changing now. Our designer has done a good job so far in this mockup. Of course, the design is based on other genre representatives. We don't want to deny that. Please keep in mind that these Item icons are just for testing purposes. The main menu got an overhaul aswell.





Administrator Menu



Especially for us, this feature is one of the most important. For later server owners among you, the whole thing is also advantageous. The admin menu. You not only have the opportunity to spawn items. But also to change the weather, the time and much more.




Final words



As you can see, I'm working hard on my game.
All my heart goes into this project and I hope you like what you see. I still have a lot to do and there are still some problems I want to fix before release. But this is also foreseeable.

I'm preparing everything for a closed alpha at the end of April.

Hello survivors

It was a long time very quiet around my project.
Some even thought I had given up on it.
This is not the case. There were private changes in my life that needed more attention than a video game.

I became a father, changed my job and Corona was there too.

But since about 1 month I'm working on REBORN again and I'm very happy with the progress.
Of course, the work is not done yet. Many things I got from the Unreal marketplace I want to change into my own systems and models.
I don't want REBORN to become another "asset" game. But it helps me a lot at this stage.

I've been working on my game for a long time and even if I could release it as "alpha" now, I won't do it. I don't want players to be disappointed, I want to be happy with my project and be able to stand behind it. There will be alpha tests. But I don't want to apologize for every mistake, every bug, every missing feature or dismiss it as "it's an alpha".

It's important to me that a game is fun even in alpha. That players understand the vision of the developer to then realize this vision together with the community.

There will be more screenshots and infos in the near future.
I have more than neglected that in the last time. I am very sorry for that.

But now the interesting part:
What i work on at the moment...


Right now I'm working at a large military airport.
This should later be populated with an underground bunker and bandits. Also a place for military loot.
And other important things you may need.







The day before yesterday, I introduced a test currency.
This money can be found in the world, obtained through missions or taken from other players.

The money will be an important part of REBORN.
With it it is possible to trade with other players and or buy important things from NPCs.

Because some things can not be found in the game world. Some items are only purchasable.




Likewise, I've been working on the current zombies.
Different animations, different walking speed and different attacks.

There will also be special zombies in particularly dangerous places. Among them is the military airport.







I hope I could bring some light into the darkness.
I am still working on REBORN and am currently very motivated to finally create a playable version.

I am looking forward to feedback or ideas.

Devblog 2 - Enemy Types & UI Improvements

Hello interested people!

It makes me really proud to see that people are interested in my project. REBORN started as a small idea and developed time by time into a really big project.

On the official Reborn Discord I am asked daily when it is finally possible to play.

But it is very important to me to present a game that is not only half finished. There are enough of them in my opinion. That's why I want to take the time to make my dream come true. No matter how long it takes. The main thing is that it will be good.
I work alone on the whole thing. This is a lot of work for me. Without financial support that takes its time. In the end it is still my hobby. Nevertheless, I invest several hours a day in various systems. But what exactly am I doing right now?
At the moment I'm spending a lot of time on the AI and the general player interface. I'm getting pretty close, but I'm still not satisfied with it.
It will be some time before I grant player access. The first impression counts and this first impression has to be good.


Environment / Weather

Day and night cycle is good. Weather is better.
To create a good atmosphere there will be weather types like light rain, rain, storm, thunderstorm and fog. This should give the whole thing a deeper atmosphere.



AI / Enemies

Long story short:

There will be different enemy types. Some of them you meet more often, some rarer. The enemies also differ in their strength, stamina and skills. With this I want to cause that fights with the AI are always challenging. That some zones should possibly not be entered alone. I also have a lot of work to do on the sounds, animations and general skills.
More on this will follow shortly, of course.





UI improvements

For the HUD I decided to use something simple. It is a round HUD with arranged food, drink and stamina indicators. Since I set more on a minimalist design, I think this fits quite well in the interface. Changes will be made to it again. But generally the design will be maintained.

NEW Information & Kickstarter

Hello dear survival fans

The work on REBORN is going on. However, it comes to a point where you just have to rely on help. I am funding my project out of my own pocket. Which is no problem, I'm happy to do it. However, the project is getting so big that I want to get other developers on board.

I started a Kickstarter campaign yesterday.
With this I hope to get the financial support I need to finish and optimize REBORN Survival.

If the Kickstarter campaign is successful, I will hire additional developers to help me with the development of the game. This way I can focus on more things and we can ensure a faster release.

Many people already know that I am working on REBORN alone.

REBORN developement status

Hello @everyone long time no see, but Im back with some new information. I took a long break from working on REBORN and after that time some things changed.
Basically i thought about changing a lot of stuff. Since there are a lot of similar games on the market i want to change things up. I feel like its kinda boring to have the same enemy types in every game: Zombies. Its the same stuff all over again so i decided to introduce a new kind of enemy. We are talking about unknown enemies. A other race from a other world perhaps. This gives us a lot more space to play with. There wont be only one specific type of creature, there will be different, with different abilities. So fighting is exciting and demanding. Stay tuned for more.

Also i rolled back many updates i did on REBORN. I did this because my former second dev started on many things and let them unfinished and some where broken aswell.
To figure out what exactly he did would cost me a lot more time then to do it all from scratch. I did a lot of progress on it and integrated something what is called "True first Person" basically its something so you can see your legs, arms and other stuff in first person. Its simple but i always wanted that. I also switched our inventory system to a Jigsaw style inventory. You probably know that kind of inventory from games like "Escape from Tarkov", DayZ, Dead Matter and so on. I feel like to have 1 slot for 1 item and thats it, is to arcadish for my taste.

The big part Im currently working on is the weapon system and weapon handling. As you know from the videos our current weapon system and handling is kinda bad.
No, it is bad and it looks terrible. It is really important for me that the shooting and weapon system feels good and entertaining. So i need to focus on that right now.
Its not easy. But i will put my time in it.
