1.0.3.1 Patch - Fix for grass visual glitch

Hej folks,

We've attempted to track down the issue with what was posted in the forums related to a weird grass visual glitch. The issue has been hard to reproduce for us. Our best guess is that this is happening on dedicated AMD GPUs as our development machines all have Nvidia GPUs and we can't see the issue happening at all.

We've disabled some grass optimisation features that were put in post-launch to see if it alleviates the issue. If you have an AMD GPU and you still encounter issue from this forum post, please let us know in there.

Update 3 - Steam Achievements, Cloud Saves & Performance Improvements

Hej Reboteers,

Update 3 is ready and it's a doozy! Thank you all for your patience in getting you this update!

Update 3 patch notes:

New Features

  • Added 23 achievements for you completionists (also fully localised to supported languages)
  • Enabled Steam Cloud Saves so you should be able to pick up where you left off on your Steam Decks

Improvements

  • Major performance improvements on asteroids when it's starting to fill up with lots of entities

Bug Fixes

  • Fix objective indicator (exclamation mark !) showing up above the Spaceport when there aren't any new jobs available
  • Stone deposits were missing from the museum once scanned - they've now been added to the mineral display
  • Fixed a rare infinite loading screen bug that caused a certain landmark to be duplicated infinitely on the asteroid
  • Fixed a mistranslation in Japanese for an objective to Deliver X Merryberry Seeds To Mailbox

A small note regarding full completion for the game: Reaching CEO rank will now unlock the remaining locked entries in the codex. This is because our procedurally generated asteroids do not guarantee with 100% certainty that all entities spawn (this is particularly risky for certain landmarks). This has been communicated by adding a perk to the CEO rank in the Progression tab in the Codex which describes this action.

Update 2 - Less crashes đŸ€ž, small improvements

Hej Reboteers,

We are pushing a smaller update out with this patch where the primary goal is to reduce the amount of infinite loading screen bugs (see first point in Bug Fixes section).

Update 2 patch notes:

Improvements

  • Workers follow the Extractor immediately if the Extractor looks for a deposit/plant to extract.
  • Improved Extractors changing direction properly if configuration of autofind deposit/plant is changed while it's moving to the original destination.

Bug Fixes

  • Improved the save/load system to handle certain Rebot or level generation crashes more gracefully resulting in being able to load into asteroids more consistently. Basically less infinite stuck on loading screen bugs. We also added better logging so if something does crash, we are better able to identify what went wrong and fix it.
  • [Controller] Jump button (South button) does not progress phonecall conversations any longer.
  • Fixed colliders missing in the Spaceport around the Museum where the player could get stuck.

We are currently working on performance improvements, Steam cloud saves & Steam achivements - we hope to release the next update with these fixes as soon as we can.

Update 1 - Player requested quality of life features and bug fixes

Hej Reboteers,

Launch day has been amazing - thank you all for playing, leaving reviews and commenting in the Steam forums. We are excited to bring you the first patch with some quality of life improvements and bug fixes.

But before getting into the nitty gritty fixes, we wanted to highlight the winner of a creator contest that happened on the week leading up to launch - Orbital Potato. Their reward was to name an alien in the game. Everyone meet Alien McAlienface:

Update 1 patch notes:

Improvements

  • Added an indicator for amount of jobs currently tracked in the Codex's Job tab.
  • When pointing the scanner at an entity that was already scanned, instead of displaying "entity found" it now displays the name of the entity.
  • It is now possible to click on any section of the config UI for supervisors when changing recipes (e.g. combiner, constructor). Similar fixes have also been made the the save file UI in the main menu and the resource shop UI in the Spaceport.
  • Hauler config UI now shows an icon of the entity in each container.
  • The Harvester building's UI now specifies how much energy the harvesting of each individual fruit takes.
  • Rework Extendo Legs tutorial to include a step about how to activate it (tutorial unlocks once player has unlocked Extendo Legs and completed the Hauler tutorial).

Bug Fixes

  • Fix a bug where the job "Elegant Peace" could not be completed if a certain dialogue path was taken.
  • [Mouse & Keyboard] Fix an issue where opening the tool wheel while looking at an interactable (e.g. supervisor) causes the cursor to show and not disappear properly.
  • [Controller] Fix an issue in the tutorial where pressing to configure the extractor help text was showing an incorrect glyph.
  • Fix the recycling icon changing size depending on the distance from the Rebot - instead it's always the same size
  • Fix an issue where giving a resource with the H.A.N.D tool while mid animation of picking up another resource would cause the old resource to remain in the hand of the Worker.
  • Fix issues where certain interactables (Praka or Solar Building) couldn't be interacted with whole holding the Scanner.
  • Fix "Requires" text on Harvester building's UI going out of the text box when "Large Fonts" option is enabled.
  • Fix an issue where seeds couldn't be dropped by Workers around an Extractor.
  • Fix floating carbon crystals behind player's ship in the Spaceport after the tutorial.
  • Fix an issue where small mineral deposits would lose material when scanned.
  • Fix localisation font issues in various places.
  • Fix some minor model issues on the Spaceport cliff.

We're actively investigating some save bugs and otherwise constantly looking at Steam forums and our Discord for further reports so feel free to reach out and send us your ideas/issues.

Rebots is in the Wholesome Games Steam Celebration between Aug 15-21 🐎

Hej Reboteers,

We are very excited to announce that Rebots has been selected to participate in the Wholesome Games Steam Celebration starting right now from the 15th August until the 21st!

Here’s the event page: Wholesome Games Celebration

Now onto that devlog - as we are preparing for launch, we thought it’d be a great idea to share a series of posts presenting different aspects of Rebots - so let’s jump into it Game Pillars & Project Goals.

Every project no matter how small or large needs pillars & goals to successfully align the team on the vision for the game. In this short post, I’ll be presenting the core pillars of Rebots and what experience we want players to have while playing the game.

The 3 pillars of Rebots are Player Agency, Alien Community & Galactic Economy

Player Agency means having access to a diverse cast of Rebots which come from the passion of creating AI characters not as enemies for the player to destroy, but to work alongside to achieve goals together. Player Agency also means tackling varied missions in the order the player wishes - whether those are settling aliens on asteroids, improving their habitat or completing favors for Spaceport Citizens. Player Agency is also present in the procedural generation of our asteroid field and asteroids which allows the player to explore at their own pace in whatever direction they see fit and adapting to the different challenges.

Alien Community is the presence of a set of alien factions with interesting and funny dialogue. The two major goals of the player in Rebots is 1) to restore the Spaceport once they crash their spaceship in the intro sequence and 2) to help aliens find and create homes on asteroids. These two goals directly contribute to the Alien Community pillar and also provide a visual sense of progress as the various parts of the Spaceport are restored/unlocked as the player completes Favors.

Galactic Economy finally is about the player’s own progression through the Rebots Corporation which is both a way to unlock content and also a slight satire on how businesses work and is represented in the various fancy titles the player receives. Galactic Economy is also reflected in the core gameplay loop of creating automated loops of Rebots on various asteroids to transform them, extract and create resources, build permanent structures with the Constructor and finally also change the climate.

All these pillars contribute to the following experience we want players to have in Rebots:

  • Players should feel that they are terraforming an asteroid for the better
  • Players should feel they are building a community
  • Rebots is a relaxing but engaging experience
  • The world of Rebots is cartoony and filled with humor
  • Players should have a sense of discovery, learning and mastery
  • Players should feel like zero to hero by shaping their own fortune in the Rebots Corporation

Thanks for tuning in, we’ll be back with more of these posts and let us know in the comments if you’re interested in hearing about any aspect of Rebots.

Cheers,
Regö and the FlatPonies team
