This is for anyone who's been on the fence about getting Recourse and diving into its colourful world of puzzles and wonderful curiosities. Recourse will be 60% off of its now halved price until 11 August 2019!
Ever since we've released Recourse, we've been striving to improve ourselves as developers. We have invested a great deal of time, money and effort into developing new skills and experimented like there was no tomorrow. While creating this update, we challenged ourselves to turn everything we've learned into a new puzzle or gameplay mechanic and put it in Recourse without breaking the game.
It was very difficult, but we're finally here! We're really proud of how far we've come and hope that you'll enjoy the new additions to our little game.
There's so much to go through. We hope you have the time and patience to read them all. It couldn't fit here, so make sure to visit the link above.
Btw, we recommend starting a new game for the full experience. We don't want you to miss a single thing!
Enjoy!

Big News
Dear Recoursers,
First, we’d like to thank you for your interest in our game and the extremely valuable feedback you provide us with. Your ideas helped us improve the game and become better developers ourselves as they often presented us with new challenges to overcome. We’re glad to announce that the next phases of the game will be available soon. Here’s what’s coming your way:
Online Co-op as a Standalone Game: We’ve been secretly developing an online co-op mode for a long while and we’re about to finalize our quality checks. You’ll be playing as Whisper – a holographic A.I. that can possess and control nearly every puzzle element, including physics objects. You will be able to host or join games and progress together with your friends or other people on Steam. The online mode takes place before the original game and revolves around Whisper’s training as a young A.I. unit. This mode will appear as a second launch option on Steam instead of a new DLC and will be completely free to game owners. We’ll throw in a few levels to the demo, so prospective players will be able to try it too. If you wish to participate in the betas and would like to play with us, please let us know in the comments.
New Story Chapter: We haven’t forgotten about Sleet and Floe. They will continue their journey by visiting other parts of the planet and advance the story. Sleet is also getting a new tool that allows him to attach deployables to any surface. The new story levels will involve investigating options to discover more about the planet’s recent history and what happened before their arrival. The development of the story mode takes much longer, so we can’t promise a specific date, but we’re aiming for our one year anniversary.
New Level and Puzzle Design Approach: The most recurring requests on the forums and support inquiries were related to the levels being too big and crowded. Laptop owners also reported low framerates due to dynamic lighting. To address these issues, we have adopted a new design approach. The new levels are smaller and they have fewer puzzle elements. These new bite-sized levels will allow you to play the game in short bursts and make it much easier to collect secrets, get achievements or hunt for Easter eggs. We have also switched to a static lighting approach to allow the game run faster on laptops. This means you’ll no longer be able to dynamically change the time of day, but we assess it to be a good tradeoff. In addition, adding new levels will be much easier for us. We’ll be able to update the game much more frequently with new content.
Possible Re-optimization of the Original Game: We’re investigating if it’s possible to split the levels in the original game into smaller chunks. It’s taking painfully slow as we don’t want to cause anyone to lose their progress. It requires building lots of betas which is very time consuming. Therefore, we’re giving it a low priority for the moment as we'd rather invest that time into creating new content.
Switching to Unreal Engine 4.13 from 4.8: Unreal Engine has evolved a great deal after we released Recourse and there is a plethora of new features we’d like to include in the new levels and modes. Imagine puzzles based on fluid and wave mechanics, growing vegetation, sliceable objects, selectively permeable walls, user interfaces projected on objects and so on. There’s a wealth of opportunities. The 4.13 version also includes a great deal of under the hood improvements that allow us to create much better looking games that also run faster.
Vulkan support: Vulkan is a new graphics API used by many next-gen games that allows for faster, smoother frame rates. No need to worry if your card doesn’t support Vulkan, you’ll still be able to run the game with DirectX and OpenGL.
That’s all for now. If it all goes per our plans, Recourse will grow to be one of the greatest puzzle games out there, offering an unprecedented level of content in one big package.
Cheers!

Update: Improved In-Level Progress Save System, Maximum Number of Enemies Setting, Fused Gates
Hello everyone,
This update introduces a new in-level progress save system to Recourse and a new setting to determine the maximum number of enemies that will be spawned in Payload and Wave Defense modes.
1) Improved Saves: We have created a new gate type named "fused gate" to replace many existing regular gates in the game. When you open a fused gate, its fuse will blow and it will start open in replays after that. This new system offers improvements on two fronts: i) it reduces or removes the need for backtracking and re-solving certain puzzles, and ii) it leaves the gate open but resets the puzzles, so you can experiment with different solutions where possible without having to worry about unlocking the door ahead.
This system replaces the old in-level progress system where the opening order and states of doors were determined by level-based unlockers. The new system will keep your old files and shouldn't affect your existing saves; however, all fused gates will start closed since the system cannot retrospectively detect which doors were opened before the update. You'll have to unlock them once but never again. It may be a bit cumbersome if you're used to the old system, but it's the only way to switch to a more intuitive and stable save system to keep track of your in-level progress.
2) "Maximum Enemies" setting: Some users may experience lowered frame rates or crashes when there are too many enemies in Payload and Wave Defense modes. This new setting allows you to experiment and pick the optimal number of enemies that is suitable for your system if you ever experience such problems.
This can also be thought as a difficulty setting as it sets the number of simultaneous enemies that can attack you.
Alternatively, you can set the number of enemies to "0" and explore the Payload and Wave Defense levels peacefully. We have increased the number of collectibles floating around to make sure you have enough points to unlock all areas of the level without having to eliminate any enemies.
This setting does NOT affect the number enemies that are spawned in puzzle levels or those that are already in the level when you enter, as there are very few existing simultaneously.
Happy puzzling,
Clouds and Blue Team
First expansion pack "Shards of Memory" is in the works
Hello everyone,
Now that the sale is over, we have started working on a pretty ambiitous expansion pack that will introduce new puzzle elements and maps to extend the storyline. The goal in the new maps will be to collect memory shards to reveal more about the planet's mysteries. As usual, there'll be new upgrades, unlockables, Easter eggs and achievements.
We don't expect it to take too long, but cannot give you a specific release date at the moment since it's very hard to predict how fast we can create these assets. We'll update you when approximately half of the work is finished.
We plan to post the progress on our Twitter page, so you're all invited to follow us at: https://twitter.com/cloudsandblue
The expansion pack, as always, will be completely free for everyone that's bought the game.
That's all the news we have for now.
Happy puzzling,
Clouds and Blue
Three maps added from the demo
Three maps from the demo have been added to the game, introducing seven more achievements and an unlockable upgrade for Sleet’s holographic bubble shield which increases its duration and adds damage reflection. The upgrade automatically unlocks when you collect the 20 bubble pieces in these levels.
The puzzles leading to these pieces are a bit harder than those in the original game.
