Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45

Celebrating 13 Years of Red Orchestra

On the 13th anniversary of the release of Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 (RO1), one of the first 3rd-party titles released on Steam, Tripwire Interactive invites players new and old to enjoy the latest update for the Darkest Hour mod. Darkest Hour is a completely community-created mod for Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45, that was itself released through Steam in 2009, has been continuously updated ever since - and is still FREE to everyone who owns RO1.

To celebrate today’s milestone - and to encourage more people to try out Darkest Hour - Tripwire Interactive is excited to announce a 75% off sale starting at 10:00AM PDT for the next 48 hours! When the sale concludes the classic Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 will move to a reduced regular price of $4.99 USD

Today’s Darkest Hour: Europe ’44-’45 update introduces a unique and fully-fledged Squad and Rally Point system that keeps players and their comrades fighting, maneuvering and communicating together to crush enemies and achieve victory. The update also introduces new Constructions and Logistics systems, that allows players to build formidable defenses. Stonewall the enemy with obstacles, such as Hedgehogs and Concertina Wire, dig-in with sandbags, bunkers, and foxholes, deploy anti-tank guns to stop enemy armor – and deploy logistics trucks to keep supplies flowing to the frontlines. For full details on today’s Darkest Hour: Europe ’44-’45 update, please head to the official Steam page.

We have a closed beta sign up form that has slowly been working its way around. We still do not have an official start date for the closed beta but we will keep everyone updated on when this will happen. We will be inviting a limited number of people, but we will have several phases and multiple ways to get a key as we ramp up towards the final release of the game.

Darkest Hour 6.0 Update

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojdq1M8WFfE

Four years.

It has been nearly four years since Darkest Hour has recieved an official update. Today, that changes.

Darklight Games is extremely proud to finally announce the release of Darkest Hour 6.0!

I would like to personally thank a couple of team members by who made this update possible.

Andrew Lett, our level designer, for his tireless efforts and enthusiasm, even when tasked with the monumental amount of work required to update and modernize over 30 levels by hand!

Matt Hands, of the programming team, for the staggering amount of bug fixes and enhancements made to the vehicle code, and of course for diligently (and exhaustively) documenting every commit!

Other special mentions include Peter Klinger, Piotr Lukasik, Torben Hensgens and Ian Campbell. Of course, we also thank our faithful testing team whose efforts have helped make this the most stable and bug free version of Darkest Hour since it's inception.

This is not our last hurrah. Darklight Games will continue to update and modernize the game on a significantly more regular basis. We will provide more information on this in the coming weeks, but for now, we can't wait to play with all of you!

Those interested can find the change log here: http://darkesthour.darklightgames.com/public-relations/change-logs/v6.0.0.pdf

Long live Darkest Hour!

Sincerely,
Colin Basnett

Notes for those joining the classic RO 3.3 Mod Server

A quick note for those joining the classic RO Mod 3.3 for UT2004 game event today. The installer was designed before UT2004 was on Steam. So when you install it, first off you should put it here:

\Steam\steamapps\common\unreal tournament 2004
Make sure that you don't have "UT2004" appended on the end of the install directory, as this will be the default behavior of the installer.

To launch the mod with the Steam version, you need to modify the launch options for UT2004.To do this follow these steps:

1) Under "Library" find Unreal Tournament 2004 in the list and right click on it.
2) Select "Properties" from the list that appears
3) Select "Set Launch Options" from the menu that appears
4) Add the following to the box that appears:
-mod=RedOrchestra
5) Close the window
6) Then launch UT2004 from within Steam and the Red Orchestra mod should launch

Additionally, if you use triple buffering you will get some wierd jittering online unless you turn VSync on. You can do this in the RedOrchestra.ini file which is located in

Steam Version
\Steam\steamapps\common\unreal tournament 2004\RedOrchestra\System

Disc Version
UT2004\RedOrchestra\System

Just look for UseVSync and set it to :
UseVSync=True

everywhere you find it, particularly the
[D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice] section. Hey, noone said playing a classic game wouldn't have a few bumps ;)
