Sinister Super Update v1.2

As a surprise, Cthulhu's Paradox has been updated! The 9th and final game of the Super Collection had a lot of content already with a very in-depth story, but the story has been further refined and the gameplay has been updated for all four of the core missions.

A lot of people have voiced their struggles with the stealth portion of the game. I had wanted the stealth to be moreso of a fear and observance thing but have found that showing the barriers versus letting people find them out leads to a lot less of a frustration experience. When you step on the puddles it shows that all sound based guards can hear the louder steps. The visuals have also been applied to the sight based stealth segments.

The game started out as a community-based game but the longer I spent away from it, and then the time spent expanding the content I realized it's a bit more than that. It's a way to explore how it feels to have anxiety. Cthulhu spends the game getting surges of visuals, some that belong to him and some that might not. His decision to explore his doubts have lead him to question everything. Through that he's able to learn about what it actually means to be a person and how his actions effect others, learning what it means to grow and accept life as it happens to you. It was implied in the original build but with this new content it's further complimented and supported.

Beastly Super Update!

I decided to open the year with a fun project, where I essentially remade a Digimon Tamagotchi but put my own unique spin on it. Man, was that fun!

So what makes the RTG version different from the classic v-pet? A lot of it will hopefully feel familiar to people but one of the biggest things I wanted to make sure of was that this could be a single player experience, and I wanted to make sure that it wasn't too terribly long. The game was designed with all of the wacky variables of the original but to get to the final form, it takes a substantially less amount of time.

In addition to the single player, single session gameplay, there are also a ton of forms to obtain. The original had a reasonable amount of forms, but for ours there's just a little more and some of them are even RTG themed. Triangles (Mr. Triangle's Maze and Adventure), Yo-Ghost and Cthulhu (Cthulhu's Paradox), Louis the Goose (Graffiti Goose, MTA, Video Goose), Dinosaur Brown (Surfasaurus). But before I did any of those, the thing I wanted to do most was turn my dog into a beast, and it was too fun to not make his forms the promotional materials. His child (rookie) form is based on him at regular size, and then when he gets to teenager (champion) he starts to get bigger like his personality. His adult (ultimate) form is based on his first Halloween costume, where he was a shark.

As you can tell this game is a big passion project, with a very small scope for gameplay, but in what I hope is conveyed a giant scope of heart.

Sinister Super Update!

Well, plans have changed slightly for what will be the eighth game in the collection. Production for Takoyaki Surprise has escalated a bit and I think that will make for a better full feature game rather than for this particular project. In saying that I've decided that this weird game I made in the spring for my game making community should belong here.

The game tries a lot of things, much like the games in the collection itself and it was very educational to learn and apply new skills for a project like this. That's a lot of what makes the collection fun in my opinion is just being a developer and trying something new, even if it does poorly for some you can learn from it to get better. For instance, all of the exercises I learned for Fox in the Woods went directly into this game when remastering it for the collection.

Cthulhu's Paradox is very much about members of my game making community and it was fun making a jokey game about them and clowning together. The subject of this game, Fenrir Lunaris of OHRRPGCE fame was in full support of this being released here, so it's hard to not get excited about adding it in. A big theme for 2022 was using premade assets and supporting the artists that made those. If you are a game developer looking to just get your hands dirty with game design but maybe aren't great at art, I hope games like this and Fox in the Woods can inspire you to just go for it. Your ideas are always going to be your own and stressing over art can kill some of that creative momentum as you learn.

I hope you enjoy Cthulhu's Paradox, it's about 3ish hours long and it's probably more insane and wacky than I can actually describe. It was a total blast to make.

Super Collection Super Update!

The Super Collection has been updated with a few new things since launch. Let's go through them all!

First up Block Bonanza came out at the end of last year. It's a fun western themed match-three style puzzle game designed to be 1-bit. It has three worlds, boss battles and a decent variety of gameplay within the match format. Also a brilliant soundtrack by Eponym, who helped with Video Goose also in the collection.

The next new game added was Fox in the Woods. In an effort to learn new things about the OHR.RPG.Ce this game was created. It's a cute little game, very simple in concept where you collect leaves as a little fox to try and make your summer last a little bit longer.

Next up, the full collection now supports achievements! Some are pretty challenging, some are pretty easy. Hopefully you can collect them all. As new games get added to the collection, more achievements will come as well. Three in particular are for Scare Spree, and earning them will be no easy feat as they are for beating the high scores that were set on the youtube videos.

Finally, let's look ahead slightly to next year with another update coming to the collection. This will be probably the longest and most full-length of a game that will be in it to date. It's a silly point and click action adventure game that was originally made in 2010 with Red Triangle Games and Soda Piggy. Normally Soda Piggy has done music or art, but in this instance he was the programmer. One of the things with bringing Takoyaki Surprise to life will be totally new art, an original soundtrack and some quality of life improvements, similar to what you might have experienced with Mr. Triangle's Maze.

Thanks for your interest in the Super Collection and supporting Red Triangle Games. We hope these free games brighten your day even just a little bit.
