Update 1.33 Patch Notes

1.33.4 (May 18)

  • Fixed resource pack issues with the language selection menu
  • Fixed overlapping issues with the hover underlay on the scoreboard
  • Players who vote for a map in the lobby will now have a checkmark next to their name
  • Fixed a bug where joining friends through Discord invites or the Steam friends list didn't work after the new menu was implemented
  • Mods will now have the mod tag on the scoreboard again

New Menu!

UI Overhaul



I haven't changed the main menu for Redmatch 2 since I first created it in 2019. The same black curtains scrolling... over and over... for years! What were they even supposed to be? As far as first impressions go, that main menu was terrible. I hope you all enjoy the new one as much as I do!


Other major UI changes include:

  • Create Match
  • Lobby
  • Resource Packs
  • Statistics
  • Achievements
  • Language Select
  • Scoreboard (It's now scrollable!)
  • All text (removed the gradient)

The settings menu has not been redesigned yet. It will take me a while since I need to rebuild the settings system, and I didn't want to delay this update any more than it had to be.

Resource Pack Changes



I've also worked to get the UI consistent across all menus. This gives the added bonus of expanding Resource Packs' UI functionality, and I've added some new files:

  • background_underlay
  • background_video_underlay
  • fullscreen_background_underlay
  • hover_underlay
  • hover_overlay
  • list_hover_underlay
  • list_hover_overlay
  • list_background
  • ui_background
  • ui_panel_background
  • icon_button_background
  • drop_shadow

The Neon White pack and Half Life 2 pack already take advantage of these new features. If you right click them in the Resource Pack Menu and choose Copy Path, you can view all the source files for yourself which is useful as a reference.




Additional Changes



  • The main menu now has ultrawide monitor support
  • Removed a hidden 10 pixel padding that was affecting the healthbar and shield in-game. It will look exactly the same but if your resource pack changed the healthbar you might notice a slight shift, which you can account for by manually adding 10 pixels of padding to your health UI on the left and bottom.
  • You can no longer die if you're already dead.
  • A loading screen will now be displayed when returning to the main menu after a match ends, instead of freezing the last frame.
  • Falling from Heaven no longer quits the game.

Update 1.32 Patch Notes

1.32.1 (April 5)

  • The Chainsaw hat will now have the spike speed affected by the slowdown at the end of a match
  • The vote ban settings can now be changed by me remotely so that I can tweak values without updating the game.
  • Reduced stuttering in the main menu caused by frequent checking of download progress and display of completion percentage for workshop items. More subscribed workshop items leads to more stuttering during the first few seconds after the menu loads due to numerous callbacks on download status from Steam. I might consider optimizing it later, but currently, it only affects players with more than a couple Resource Pack subscriptions and has minimal impact. Mostly this has just resulted in the realization that Steam callbacks are fairly expensive and should be used more sparingly.

More Levels + Redesign

Update 1.32



The level icons were in need of some love, and a lot of players who have made it past level 100 have had to use the same rainbow icon forever. I added new level icons up to level 400 and redesigned all of the old ones with a more sophisticated visual progression.

As an example, here are the changes to the new level 100 icon set:



Changes

  • Redesigned all the level icons, and added icons past level 100 (400 is the new highest icon).
  • Added a menu to view levels and their EXP requirements, which you can access by clicking your level icon in the top left of the main menu.


Bugfixes

  • The player context menu will no longer go offscreen if you open it on a player at the bottom of the scoreboard.

Update 1.31 Patch Notes

1.31.1 (February 23)

  • Fixed a bug where the last survivor leaving could cause the match to go on forever
  • Fixed a bug where if any player hadn't been assigned to Survivor or Infected (still loading in) the match could go on forever
  • Fixed a bug where the infected objective would not display if you joined the match late
  • Fixed a bug created in 1.31.0 where all the settings were lowercase and not translated
  • Survivors no longer have grapple gear (by default) in Infection
  • Added new match settings for Infection: Survivor Grapple Gear and Infected Bonus Health

New Game Mode: Infection

Update 1.31



This update features a brand new game mode: Infection! After 20 seconds, 12% of players in the match will get infected. The Infected players get a instakill knife and grapple gear. When a Survivor gets killed, they become Infected. Infect everyone to win as an Infected, or survive until the time runs out to win as a Survivor!




Changes

  • Added the Infection gamemode.


Bugfixes

  • Hopefully reduced main menu load time by caching GetComponent references for LocalizedText components in the editor instead of at runtime
  • The "Only the Host can change Match Settings" text will no longer show for the host after the match ends and everyone returns to the main menu
  • Fixed a bug where after a One in the Chamber match every gamemode would give you one bullet back per kill
  • The match settings UI will now load the current match settings when you return to the main menu after a match ends (I'm not sure how I missed this for so long...)

Update 1.30 Patch Notes

1.30.1 (December 25)

  • Made the achievements menu look a lot nicer
  • Stats will now sync to Steam every 3 minutes as well as when the game is closed (could have potentially fixed the weird cloud save not matching issues)
  • Added a locked icon for the achievement Good Sport
  • Unlocking an achievement while in the menu will now update the achievement menu UI

New Achievements + Achievements Rework

A lot of the achievements had requirements which were almost impossible to get in Redmatch 2 today, like winning a match without getting hit. In this update I reworked some old achievements to make them possible, and added some new ones to earn. If you have any issues earning achievements please send a message to the #bug-reports channel on our Discord server!

Changes

  • Reduced the required distance for the 1 in 7.5 Trillion achievement from 75 to 50
  • Changed the Camper achievement from "Win a match without moving" to "Kill a player without moving for 10 seconds"
  • Changed the Jack of All Trades achievement from "Get a kill with the sniper, rifle, and shotgun in one match" to "Get a kill with all weapons in one match"
  • Changed the World Trip achievement from "Win on each map" to "Get a kill on each map"
  • Changed the Untouchable achievement from "Win a match without getting hit" to "Get 5 kills without getting hit"
  • Completing a time trial will now send a chat message to all players


Bugfixes

  • You can no longer grapple around and have the Camper achievement still count
  • Potentially fixed a long-standing issue where time trial ghosts would not appear (Players will need to get a new highscore on the time trail to update their ghost. I'm thinking about reworking time trial ghosts in the future)

  • Death Wish: Equip a death
  • Never Dig Straight Down: Die to the void with the Pixel death equipped
