I am excited to update you today on the latest developments in my game. A crucial step has been taken to improve network stability and performance: the switch from UNET to FishNet! Additionally, I want to give you an insight into the upcoming content. But first:
Why the Switch?
Since Unity 2018.4, UNET has been officially declared obsolete and no longer receives updates or support from Unity. This change meant that I had to look for a modern and efficient alternative to offer you the best possible gaming experience.
What is FishNet?
FishNet is a modern network framework for Unity, known for its high performance and stability. It offers me the flexibility and scalability I need to further develop and improve our game. With features like efficient message handling, support for dedicated servers, and easy implementation, FishNet is an excellent choice for our game.
What Does This Mean for the Game?
With the switch to FishNet, you can expect a more stable and smoother online experience. There will be improvements in network performance and reliability, which are essential for multiplayer gaming. I now also have the opportunity to integrate new and exciting features that were not possible before.
Rebalancing the Talent Tree and Items
Another important aspect of my work is the rebalancing of the talent tree and items. My goal is to reduce the influence of items and talents so that choosing the right talents and items becomes less crucial. Instead, strategically building the right towers should take center stage. I want the strategic depth and player skill to have more weight.
Level 4 for All Towers
Furthermore, I am working on introducing a level 4 variant for all towers. This will add another layer of strategic planning and customization to the game. I am excited about the possibilities that this new level of tower development will bring and look forward to seeing how you use these new options.
Standard Mode
In the upcoming updates, some exciting revisions are planned for the standard mode. This mode will get its own scene, where you can select levels and talents. This allows you to plan your talent tree in a relaxed manner outside of the actual game. Also, it will soon be possible to purchase bank slots to safely store your items. Another planned feature is the ability to invite friends to play the mode together.
Roadmap: Additional Points
I am nearing the completion of three additional languages. All three languages are already selectable in the game and will be officially supported with the upcoming updates.
The custom key-bindings have also been completed. With the next update, you can easily set your own shortcuts!
I have also revamped the User Interface (UI). All windows can now be selected via a quick selection on the side of the screen. By default, no toggle is set, so opening one window closes all others. However, the windows can now also be pinned, which means they remain open even when another window is opened. In addition, there is an indication in the quick selection if new information is available in a dialog – for example, if new talent points are available or if an item has been picked up without the inventory being opened. There is also a new window for in-game notifications. For example, when a new enemy type is discovered, a click on the notification takes you directly to the description of the enemy type.

I am happy to release the next update. This update mainly improves the multiplayer experience with some bug fixes and optimizations in the netcode, especially in the fragmentation of the packages. In addition, some adjustments have been made to the game balance, making it easier to get started but promising a more constant difficulty increase.
In the coming days I will publish an updated roadmap for the next months. Feel free to send me feedback if there are specific features you'd like to see in the game. At the moment, I'm still a bit undecided about which elements I should implement first. I am happy to announce that I was able to release the latest update before Christmas. In the following, I'll first go into the changes of the update and its major innovations. I have already talked about some of the new features in some previous announcements. For the sake of completeness, these innovations appear here again. Afterwards a view on the development and a summarized overview of the patch notes.

Armor and damage types
General The complete spreadsheet of armor and damage types has been revised. Pictures speak louder than words ... here is the spreadsheet:
Randomly generated waves and endless mode in single player
Each map in the standard single player can now be played in two other variants. Whereby the two variants are similar and the opponents are randomly created by a generator. In the first variant, a fixed difficulty level is chosen for the generator. The difficulty level is used to decide how many waves the level has and which units can appear. This variant is counted for the ranking. In the second variant, a difficulty level is also set, only this time the generator generates an infinite number of waves. This variant does not count for the ranking.
Localization
The language German can now be selected.
The new talent tree
General The new talent tree is now available. Currently there are two talent trees available. The mage tree and the engineer tree.
Unique paths There are also now unique paths in the talent tree. That is, there are enhancements that, when upgraded, interleave the path with other enhancements. This means that you have to choose one path and can no longer upgrade everything. Such enhancements have a great impact on the playstyle.
Ability enhancements Improvements can now also influence the ability in its behavior. For example, in the mage tree, you can still upgrade the meteor. However, starting from the second level, you now have to decide on its further behavior. Either you can decide that the meteor now becomes a meteor shower and lets several small meteors fall from the sky or you can decide that the meteor now burns the enemies over time and thus causes additional damage over time.

Since there are currently no items in multiplayer (but already in the works), these talents so far only apply to single player.

New properties Items can now have many new properties. Which can also greatly influence the play style. For example, there is a mage set which gives you blue crystals when you use mana.
Equipment slots Equipment slots have now become equipment slots. Each equipment slot has an equipment type ... For example, head, hand, ring and many more.
Skill strength
New to the game ... there is now skill strength. Most will already know it from other games. With the ability strength abilities, as the name suggests, become stronger. So cause more damage, last longer and so on ... There are items as well as enhancements that would give you skill strength.
Roadmap:
Changes I have made a few changes to the roadmap. Since the single player enjoys more popularity than the multiplayer mode, I would like to expand the single player first. The first step will be more maps... it's time for new maps! This doesn't mean that the items that disappeared from the roadmap are off the table. It just means that they have been pushed to the back.

With the possibility to change the language, the basis was also created to bring more languages faster into the game. I'm now working on the languages with the highest user numbers one after the other.
Note Feel free to leave comments on the Discord server or in the community. I am always open for new ideas and suggestions. Even if it sometimes takes a little longer until the content ends up in the game. I'm still developing the game as a hobby and that besides a full time job.
