ROK R8 Update
- Just a notification to community server owners that there are some changes with this update for running multiple servers, please view:
*Update* - Crownland plague village loot bug fixed in a small patch.
*Update* - This is the second time we've posted this update. The previous one had some issues surrounding connection stability & event handling, but we believe we may have fixed the issues now. Update requires a wipe as well (due to R7 exploits being fixed), however, its community servers choice if they wish to wipe.
This release contains some fixes for bugs and exploits that were found which affected different areas of the game. Many back-end networking functions have also been changed to make the game more secure. Official servers have been wiped. We do not believe this update will require a wipe for community servers. Our ping protection system has been upgraded as well, as a result we've also made the majority of official servers ping-protected. If you cannot play on those, we are still running non-ping protected servers, and there are many different community servers with different ping limits that can also be played on.
Please post any bugs you find, or issues with the game in the bug forums:

Please continue to list bugs and email us about exploits. We thank everyone for your information you've sent in so far. Normally we do a wipe on the first Tuesday of each month, however, due to the delay in this wipe, we expect the next wipe to be on August 2nd.
- Fixed known exploits
- Fixed iron resource node decals stretching when hit
- Fixed iron resource node harvested model bad specular values

- Switched the Steam Authentication on the ROk Servers to use a more secure method of authentication.
- Added a connection-interrupted screen that blocks input on the client when they have not received or sent messages for more then 5 seconds.
- Reduced the length of the initial Reign Of Kings logo when starting the game.
- Fixed popups not always showing when you get disconnected from a server.
- Ping protection system has been upgraded
- The game time shared between the server and its clients is now more accurate, depending on hardware. This affects some progress bars and events seen in-game.
- Reporting a player is now blocked for 5 minutes after it has been submitted, instead of blocking when the report menu is opened.
- Players will no longer see error messages involving the Ancient Sword or Ancient Crown when a different player caused them.
- Control settings have been reset to ensure that the mouse look axes have no dead zone by default.
- An input blackout will now appear after being disconnected from the server for 5 seconds. Automatic disconnects still occur at 30 seconds.
- The duration and threshold for auto-banning players are now available in the server settings.
- Changed rock colliders to be convex colliders
- Create a filter to make sure placing inside convex colliders should not happen

ROK Update R8
*Second Update* - After working all night on trying to get R8 working correctly, we still have not found a solution to a backend networking problem were experiencing that causes server lag, and then a connection drop. Due to this, we have to roll back the game to R7 with a wipe. We'll continue to work on this release until we resolve the issues it was having, and then when the patch is ready, we'll release the patch and re-wipe the server. The reason for the wipes being needed is that this patch addresses key exploits that cause players to unfairly dupe items.
*Update* - Were currently experiencing some issues with running multiple game servers per a server. In the meantime, we can only run one set of ping-protected official servers. Were working on a fix, and will update this thread. Community servers will also need to only run one instance of a game server on their server, or they will have crashing issues, we'll also put update notes in the community server update thread once we have a solution.

Looking to the future, if there is something urgent, we will patch it as soon as we can. Otherwise, we will continue to support the game by releasing occasional patches that will focus on further bug fixes, design tweaks, and exploit fixes. The anti-hack is updated separately via the EAC launcher and will update itself as new hacks are discovered, as anti-hacking is a constant battle. Please continue to list bugs, balancing thoughts, and email us about exploits.
We plan to do a wipe on the first Tuesday of each month to keep the servers running well, and the game fresh. We expect the next wipe to be on March 1st.
- Various Exploit fixes
- The Ballista will no longer auto-loot itself when collected.
- The Trebuchet trigger will no longer function while their ammo container is open.
- The Trebuchet ammo container will no longer function while firing.

ROK Update R4 + R5
Edit: We've changed the release version to R5 following a patch that required a version change shortly after the R4 release. The patch contains a few new exploit fixes for a couple of bad exploits. As well, the treasure tree now also has a larger no build zone around it.
This release contains some fixes for new bugs and exploits that were found which affected different areas of the game. We also did some more deep profiling of the engine, and hopefully rooted out and fixed more issues with server performance, and issues with blocks disappearing. Official servers have been wiped, as it's the first Tuesday of the month. We do not believe this update will require a wipe for community servers.

We plan to do a wipe on the first Tuesday of each month to keep the servers running well, and the game fresh. This wipe will not correspond with future patch releases. However, in certain cases, a patch may require a wipe.
Bug Fixes:
- Made the code responsible for registering synced objects more performant when registering an object of the same type.
- Made a loading script instantiate the plague village and other resources then activate those objects on the next frame to help performance.
- Fix an issue with paged out crests not transferring ownership of object properly
- Clean up some GC in paging, and social systems
- Reduce performance hit of paging a little bit
- Fixed crest validation bug
- Harvesting trees and bushes beside farm plots should no longer remove the farm plot
- Beds that have been removed for invalid placement can no longer be spawned at under any circumstances.
- Players will once again stay captured when logging out while being held by a rope or chain.
- Adjusted the exit points for the hanging cages to reduce the probability of released players ending up inside of things.
- Character Saving is more performant on server
- Design change - No build zone now encompasses entire throne head on Crownland. This is to prevent un-raidable bases that were appearing in the top section of head. You can still try wall off the entire head from the outside however.
- Fixed issue allowing you to build structures on trees that would cause collapse
- Fixed issue with randomization on first character creation
- Doors and gates now push players out toward the front or back when they are closed, not the sides.
- Players who log in stuck between a door and wall now have 30 seconds to correct themselves.
- Removed block trim from server as it doesn't need it
- Plant plots for trees and berries can be re-used without deleting the second crop
- Blocks use mesh combining on colliders properly now to get rid of invisible blocks.
- Moved block collapse to be over time instead of on save, to reduce paging spikes on server

- Disabled some logging overhead that snuck in when creating some objects from prefabs.
- Normal players can no longer use the /sendnews command unless they have the permission. (rok.command.admin.news)
- Fixed an issue with collapse and block rounding so hanging block structures should no longer improperly delete under certain circumstances
- Made it so that harvesting nearby trees does not incorrectly harvest a farm plot
- Reduced the garbage made when serializing objects via blueprints
- Fixed a bug that caused capture to desynchornize in certain scenarios

ROK Update R2
This release contains some internal fixes for bugs we've encountered since release. We did some deep profiling of the engine, and hopefully rooted out some server performance, and issues with blocks disappearing. We will also be wiping the servers tomorrow morning. However, we plan to keep the servers without a wipe until then as we wish to monitor certain aspects of this patch on live servers. For community servers, please keep in mind that this patch may require a wipe due to it's changing of internal systems.
Were continuing to monitor the game for bugs, and will continue support it with future patches to address further bugs, design tweaks, and any new exploits that surface. Please post any bugs you find, or issues with the game in the bug forums:

Bug Fixes:
- Decay no longer stores zones that are crests, and therefore will not instantly delete areas that have been uncrested
- Paging will no longer instantiate duplicate crests on the off chance that it is caught loading
- Made sure that blocks which are loading, but not fully loaded, will now function properly on saves
- Fixed an issue with invitations spamming the server and killing some server performance
- Decay was a little performance hungry on the server, this has been improved
- Improved the performance impact from a player logging in.

We plan some time off next week for the holidays. We do not plan to do further weekly progress reports in-between future patches, but we will of course still be part of the community and monitor the forums. Please continue to list bugs, balancing thoughts, and email us about exploits. We also plan to do a wipe about once a month going forward to keep the servers running well, and the game fresh.
Polish:
- Adjusted crouch animation to look more natural. Crouch height is based on leg length; small characters will crouch less whereas tall characters will crouch more.
Changes:
- Changed sound when dropping items in your inventory
- Removed mouse hover sound from main menu
- The gamepad cursor is now disabled by default to prevent unexpected mouse-drifting when using specific controllers or software. The gamepad cursor can be enabled in the "Options" menu, and it will not be disabled if you already had it enabled.
Bug Fixes:
- Main menu music will no longer play outside of the main menu.
- Water is no longer a craft-able item. It is still produced by wells or found on animals and fresh bodies of water.
- Fixed an issue with the decay system improperly caching time stamps in crest areas.
- Block Collapsing now accounts for existing but not fully loaded pages
- Fixed some raycast hit issues on players for projectiles
- Fixed Long Drawbridge audio not lining up properly
- Fog distance scales to draw distance, no weird box sky on lowest graphics settings
We hope everyone enjoys their time gaming over the holidays,
- The Code}{atch Team
Reign Of Kings is Released!
This is a very special update, as it marks the day of release for Reign of Kings on Steam. We thank everyone for your feedback and helping us to mold the game into what it is today. We’re happy to have been able to develop a new medieval gaming experience where we can live the dream and reign as king or queen.
We announced upon launch on Early Access that our goal was to release before the end of the year, and we’re happy to say that we have not only achieved our internal roadmap, but also added many features past it. On average, each player has played around 36 hours of ROK, with many over a hundred, and some over a thousand hours of playtime. Throughout development, we've launched over 22 major updates, and have spent the last couple of months fixing bugs, optimizing, polishing, and tweaking in preparation for the release.
The 1.0 is more than just a release, it is also one of our biggest updates. We've spent a large amount of time working on server optimization and performance. This should help with the server causing lag in different areas when under heavy load. We also implemented a server-side modding framework that will allow server operators to change many values of the game in order to better suit the game to their communities tastes. Aside from this, there were many bug fixes, and design tweaks. We also fixed all known exploits. Official servers will be wiped with this update, and a wipe is recommended for community servers.
EAC has been working hard on many changes to help prevent hacking. Please remember that any hackers caught will have their access to the game perma-banned.
If you want to report an exploit, or hacker, and learn about our process, please read this thread:
