We would like to give you some news and insights about the current status of RKO. In the meantime we are working overtime in a kind of crunchtime and are testing the multiplayer features and fixing bugs. So please forgive us if we don't immediately answer every question or comment. During this phase we exchanged some basic mechanics in order to increase the possible number of players per server and to boost overall performance. Testing RKO is a lot of fun and you immediately notice its great potential, in other words we are very satisfied with the current stage of the game. We want the RKO to reach the public as smoothly and rounded as possible, so we decided to postpone the release date, We also have to finance the development ourselves, which has slowed us down a bit, maybe we should try a Kickstarter?

State of the game!
Welcome Adventurer! The vision is taking shape, we proudly present you the current state of the game for the first time!
OVERVIEW: Remote Knights Online is a faction based openworld action RPG with survival elements. You control your avatar from a freely adjustable 3rd person to 1st person perspective in a seamless handcrafted 3D world. Main goal of the game is to survive and lead your faction to victory in a combination of PvE and PvP. The world changes dynamically according to the behavior of the players. It can be played in singleplayer, multiplayer or in self-hosted mode with custom ruleset.
FACTIONS: Players can join one of two factions as a knight in order to gain dominion over Vall Tir in epic battles in a combination of PvE and PvP. Each fraction has its own history, culture and religion, which is reflected in the style of play, music and general ambience. Play your way up in their ranks with friends or alone, unlock new skins, achievements, etc.(more on this in the future) Every time you spawn, you play a new life, because by death you lose all items and the ingame level progression. (Hardcore) But if you manage to recover your treasure before an opponent has done it, you lose nothing. General account level, unlocked content, achievements, etc. should be spared from death.
Realtime slicing
Graphic violence (18+): The time in which the RKO plays is characterized by violence and the law of the strongest. This is also reflected in the visual presentation. Swords, for example, can cut plants, wood, fabric and even flesh and bones. The level of violence can be set in three stages: (no gore, blood, full gore)
COMBAT: The combat system is designed to be fast, tactical, immersive and fun. Hits are done by weapons collision, there is no target locking or aim assists, players have to decide and aim by themselfs. Attacks can be charged in direction and force, which affects damage and range. Evading and parrying have to be timed well and in direction. The body can be protected by individual armor pieces. So players should try to spot poor armored body parts on opponents and then try to hit these!
Actions share the same cooldown. Making the right choice here is what makes the difference between life and death.
Attack techniques in detail:
Basic melee attacks (fast but not suitable to penetrate heavy armor)
Charged melee attacks (heavy attacks with adjustable dash range but leaves you vulnerable while charging)
Combos are charged attacks chained together (heavy and fast attack chain but leaves you vulnerable for flank's while active)
Defense in detail:
Parry/Block are reaction actions which leave your opponent vunerable for a short time window, when succesfull.
Evade in detail:
Dodge roles can be used to evade attacks or simply to change position quickly. (but cost more stamina than parry/block and have a higher cooldown)
WORLD: Explore 'Vall Tir' a seamless handcrafted atmospheric open world with changing weather and day and night cycle. Thanks to our dynamic content system, the world is constantly changing. AI, items and entire scenarios are effected by it.
ENEMIES/AI: The AI has a real life cycle and needs like drinking, eating, resting and adventure. It can also use emotions to communicate with you and other AIs. Which is not only amusing and atmospheric but also invites you to roleplaying. Apparently the best loot is to be found with dangerous bandits, waylayers, animals, undead and other creatures that roam the world. For larger groups of higher level opponents, you better bring a few friends. At night, most of the residents of Vall Tir retreat to their camps to rest, eat or just be in company. In addition, it is said that in the absence of sunlight the undead crawl out of their graves, driven by the urge for fresh blood.
ITEMS: Items are an important part of RKO, your virtual life depends on them. At the moment there are weapons, armor, consumables and tools. Each type varies within quality levels, from common to very powerful and rare. Searching for items is a great adventure in itself. You never know if the next opponent might drop something epic and valuable. Equipment can also break and wear out, so stocking up if possible can be useful.
Weapons: Five types of weapons, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. (Unarmed, One-Handed, Two-Handed, Pole, Bow) Armor: Each part of the body represents a hitbox which can be protected by an armor item. Because direct hits with sharp swords, arrows and claws are very bad for your health, you should try to get a full set of the highest possible quality. Consumables: Fresh drinks and good food are just as important to staying alive. They are currently the only source to fill up missing hit points. It is also possible to further process food in order to increase efficiency.
ROLEPLAY: To support deep immersion, there is a social interaction system, players can communicate quickly via a pie menu. Which also works with AI and can be quite amusing. To recover from the strains of the fight, you will be able to make music together, dance and other fun stuff. We have several other features like this in the making, more on that later.
DEVELOPMENT: We are two brothers who have been working on this project since 2015, initially half-time and later full-time. It's basically our dream game and we can't wait to play it with you!
