Upcoming Alpha 4.0

Hi all,

Its been a while since I last posted. I was pretty caught up with life and what have you. In the meantime I have changed the following:

Lore:
====

- Mercenary faction is now known as the Renegade faction.

- Renegade faction is now known as the X.Z faction.

To put it quite simple. While the story used to revolve around the X.Z. It seems to be wiser to base it on the humans who go against the law/will of those "above" them. While machines might be able to think for themselves in the future, for now, this isn't the case ;). The need to create a secondary Skynet was just a bit too much.

Gamemode: Coop
==============

As mentioned in an earlier post, the groundwork for coop modes was under development at the time. Today I'm happy to announce the very first coop game mode has been finished (albeit in alpha stage) and can be enjoyed. However for balance sake, I ensured only the Renegade faction can play the mode (for the moment).

For instance, the Renegade faction can supply each other with ammo, health and what have you. Whereas the X.Z faction feels incomplete in that regard. Not that the X.Z faction cannot hold their own in the other game modes however when it comes down to utility they're significantly lacking. Whereas the Renegade faction shines.

Keeping this factor in mind. The X.Z faction isn't "mature" (Not enough weapon diversity, not enough utility, balance changes, etc) enough to have their own gamemode against the horde and or even be able to be selectable as an ally as their firepower is just to save their own caboose. However in the future I foresee giving them their own (balanced) tools which allows them to either have their own coop mode and or even PvPvE mode ;).

Gamemode: Deathmatch
===================

Due to the nature of the template I am using. I have to rewrite a large portion of the way this game works. This game mode isn't any different. As it stands it uses team 0 (Renegade) and team 1 (X.Z) as an integer. Which is hard coded into it and it blows. Originally the template doesn't support what I am doing (including the Horde mode). Much like the Horde mode I have to try making this work through trial and error. While it isn't scrapped, the Deathmatch mode will see a delay for the time being.

Alpha 3.3 Additions and changes

Good evening all,

First and foremost, have a lovely weekend! If you're still working this weekend, hang in there, you'll have off pretty soon! Prior to starting mine, a little patch and some updates:

- Fixed an issue with the character selection menu, at times the primary and secondary weapon default values would appear instead of allocated names per weapon class.

- Nerfed weapon damages across the board for gameplay balance.

- 8 different Vigon faction aliens have been added with their own attribute (speed, hp, damage, etc) pool.

- Added a Vigon alien model in the main menu's background.

- Conversion from Unreal Engine blueprint solution to C++ solution has commenced.

- First version of the dedicated server has been compiled and tested. Thus far great results.

- Console has now been enabled.

Alpha 3.2 Additions and changes

Good evening,

- Added body awareness by introducing FPS legs in the first person camera for all characters.

- Vigon (npc) faction has been added.

- Vigon (npc) has received its own animations and sound fx.

- Horde mode 'base' game mode is under construction and will be used to fight against the Vigon faction. Will inform more about this mode as soon as it's ready!

- Deathmatch game mode is under construction and will be made available soon.

- Added the 'invite only' checkmark to the create game menu. This implies you can only play with people you invite 'online', thus disabling the LAN functionality. Setting the server to invite only implies you simply don't want it to be listed in the server list but still joinable by steam invite/IP sharing. If switched off, the LAN functionality will be active once again. The same behavior is replicated whenever LAN checkbox is marked. However differs from a network point of view.

- Bots being enabled by default (when creating a match) is no longer a thing. You will have to enable them upon creating a match, after all, the core of Renegade is to engage into PVP. While the bots generate better content than the players do at this very time. They won't do you much good aside from getting acquainted to the game.

- Partial controller support has been enabled in-game. In terms of UI navigation, for the moment, you must use mouse and keyboard.

- Backups of the old Renegade alpha build (2.0) are no longer being made, since we're a month and another alpha release further, the HDD space can be spared and dedicated to the alpha 3.0 build.

Kind regards,

Cet

Alpha 3.1 additions and changes

Afternoon,

- Added footsteps fx for Renegade faction.
- Added jump fx for both Mercenary and Renegade factions.
- Added pain fx for both Mercenary and Renegade factions.
- Added Mercenary faction AI bot model.
- Added blood effects whenever hit for the Mercenary faction.
- Added metal effects whenever hit for the Renegade faction.
- Added taunt sounds for both Mercenary and Renegade faction.

- Removed weapons load-out being able to be picked up for both Mercenary and Renegade faction. While there are enough ways of obtaining ammo for both factions, it proves to be the least beneficial to have load-outs drop as a separate pickup. In the future, the load-out of the defeated opponent/ally will simply drop ammo matching your chosen faction.

- Renegade bots currently use the Mercenary faction weapons. Once the Renegade faction its arsenal is complete, the faction will only be able to use their own weapons.

- Buffed Renegade Enforcer HP to 250 HP.
- Nerfed Renegade Enforcer capability to sprint (in other words, it can't sprint).
- Buffed Mercenary McCain HP to 150.

Kind regards,

Cet
