Patch Notes - Update #15 - Retrosity and OST

It's hard to believe that we began working on River City Ransom: Underground five years ago, and the game released a little over a year ago. We wanted to celebrate that milestone by releasing a few "cutting room floor" features that were close to our heart. So let's get things started with what's in this update, "Retrosity", available now and as an OST bundle for 50% off this week!



Retrosity Filters

Nothing complements a retro game nicer than a pair of nostalgia goggles. You'll now find "Retrosity" settings in your game's Graphics settings, which allow you to relive some of your favourite old school palettes and filters. As some astute players noticed, we had most of the palettes in the code already, but couldn't get the filter experience polished in time for launch. We adapted and extended the excellent work of J. Kyle Pittman, and you can read more about the techniques used here. Try them all!



Exploding Barrels

Mysterious barrels are popping up all over River City. The rumour is, these nefarious slush buckets are being delivered late at night from trucks from Merv Enterprises' private landfill. Use them to your advantage for crowd control!



Alexis the Hero

By popular demand, Alexis is now an unlockable hero. This means you can take her through the story campaign as well as in the arena. To accommodate her story challenge, we've added a few moves to balance out her ground game.



Shoulder Ram

Use this sweeping knockdown attack to put distance between you and your foe, and open up juggling opportunities.



Spin Kick / Grapple Kick

Alexis now has a suitable secondary attack to keep enemies at bay sneaking up behind, and which she also employs when grappling.

OST Bundle



We're happy to announce that the OST in both MP3 and FLAC formats is available for sale starting now, either standalone or as a bundle. Dino Lionetti regales your ears with a classically inspired River City soundtrack. If you missed out on the OST backer rewards, this is a great time to pick this up at a discount.

Patch Notes - Update #13 - Big Gameplay Improvements

It is my pleasure to present to you the "Big Gameplay Improvements" update. Based on your feedback this year, and feedback gathered from the forum, we put together this patch to solve the most common gameplay complaints we have received.

Changes:



  • Police in River City are now under-staffed. Your first crime is free™!
  • Kingpins are now scary... for everyone except you! You will easily catch them!
  • After you win, River City goes (mostly) back to normal
  • If you run across an entire level, you are no longer rewarded with an invisible wall
  • Charge moves do not trigger across level boundaries
  • The default throw does damage again
  • Fixed missing animations after throw-release from grapple moves
  • Dojos now tell you the minimum level requirement for moves
  • The standard knockback animation no longer depends on damage dealt (ie: strength)
  • Improved calculation of the stamina threshold for desperation moves
  • Changed how energy regeneration and max-energy gain from items are calculated
  • Fixed missing XP rewards for a few bosses
  • Mike: Now comes with Fat moves as standard
  • Mike: Fixed move list text for Plumber Jump Kick and Inch Punch
  • Rudy: Fixed move input for Mud Stomp
  • Provie: Adjusted shop items to match Provie's actual moves (removed Pop Up, added Frizzle)
  • Wes: Fixed Grapple Knee and Grapple Elbow (from front grapples)
  • Alexis: Tweeky no longer gets stuck and can no longer hover
  • Backer: Fixed Arm Bar Reversal
  • Sewers 2: Can no longer fall behind the level on the right hand side
  • Forest River: Fixed respawning after you fall off a log
  • Merv Elevator: Turned off police spawning due to wanted level
  • Oak Hill Mall: Fixed Le Jambon Cache door (for players at night) and Dragon's Dojo door (for AI)
  • Minor fixes for the Chinese translation

We've just released an update to River City Ransom: Underground in time for the holidays. To celebrate, the game will be 50% off on Steam from now until Monday, November 20th at 10AM PST / 1PM EST.



OST Relaunch

We're excited to release Dino Lionetti's new soundtrack for River City Ransom: Underground! Dino, one of the talents behind Cheap Dinosaurs, co-composed the original soundtrack for the game. Now he's back with an all new rendition, blending hints of classic Technōs groove with subtle, catchy, and cohesive tunes we think you'll love.

Now available in Simplified Chinese

Thanks to great work by IndieNova and Project Gutenberg, RCRU is now available in Simplified Chinese! This language option will appear automatically in the game options menu as well as through the Steam client.

Patch Notes - Update #10

Hello all! We're back with another patch. We have some other stuff in the works, but we wanted to get these bug fixes out as soon as possible.

Features:



  • Added categories to the move list (first part of several planned UI improvements)


Bug fixes:



  • Fix Bruno MJ Shooting Star not unlocking when purchased
  • Fix loss of control bug if a pop-up appears in the arcade restroom
  • Fix Steam language choice not overwriting options language choice
  • Turn off dynamic respawn in movie theatre
  • Fixed a crash in a story script if Wes is not present

Patch Notes - Update #9

This small-but-important patch fixes the top 14 reported crashes, which accounts for over 90% of the crashes in the game code by occurrence. (Note that this does not include crashes caused by GPU- and system-related problems.)
