v1.24 reverted

I encountered a crash while testing 1.24 publicly. I have reverted the public branch to 1.23 while we try to resolve the issue.

Please restart steam to get 1.23 again if it doesn't download automatically.

I'm sorry if you were looking forward to the new features but it'll be out soon!

This is what happens when you don't have a QA department or money but I'm doing my best :)

New update v1.24 "Effect Mass" is live!

Hi top-down race fans!

This update adds some car customization (neon, spoiler) and focuses on fixing the weather effects ruined in the previous update. The update is now available in both the public and the beta channel.

Another thing you might be interested to hear is that we've submitted Steam Trading Cards for review so that will happen soon!

New!

  • New car customization where you can add neon lights and a spoiler to the cars and select from basic colors. The menu reached from the career garage. (it is profile wide and affects all modes currently). Will be added separately to the Select Car screen later.
  • Improved rain effect with droplets.
  • Boss "Speedfreak" added to Welcome to league career screen to intimidate ya'll.

Fixed issues

  • Fixed issue with weather effects not rendering in the entire view when camera is high. (thanks carn1x)

New update v1.23 "Zoom Ahead" is live!

Hi top-down race fans!

Another quick update. Don't get too used to it ;) This update focuses on improved camera work which could have a big impact on the feel of a race. The update is now available in both the public and the beta channel.

New!

  • Camera-work at the beginning of a race has been updated to give a good overview of the closest surroundings before the race starts.
  • Camera distance option was changed to specify how the zoom level is affected by the cars speed rather than having a fixed roof.
  • Camera now zooms higher on the Far setting than was possible with any setting before so players can see more ahead of the track. (Thanks carn1x)

Fixed issues

  • Potential fix for a rare crash occurring if Steam upload failed. (Thanks carn1x for sending in logs)
  • Fixed crash if going back and forth between screens showing leaderboards (select track and time trial).

Again thanks to carn1x for several of these suggestions and reporting some of these issues!

New update v1.22 "Power Surge" live!

Hi top-down race fans!

The latest update is now available in both the public and the beta channel. It fixes a few issues and improves the game in a couple of areas.

New!

  • Added new car! Watch out for the 'Surge'! It is a exotic-engined 4WD A-class car with great speed but medium handling.
  • Added arcade option. This will remove nitro pickups and instead increase the efficiency of the KERS. (Thanks carn1x)
  • New steering input model for more responsive control. Now uses Ackermann steering which lowers traction problems especially at low speed and changed calculations how input is interpreted as an effect on the steering wheel for both keyboard and gamepads.

Fixed issues

  • Fixed several issues related to steering input especially for analogue axis for gamepads.
  • Fixed issue with particles freezing in place when pausing. (Thanks carn1x)
  • Fixed particle graphics options not doing what they should. (Thanks several reporters)
  • Added missing finish line to Oasis track. (Thanks carn1x)
  • Increased volume of water splash sound.

Huge thanks to carn1x this update for several of these suggestions and finding and reporting these issues! You are a model citizen of this community! :D

New update v1.21 "Smart Boot" live!

Hello!

The latest update is now available in both the public and the beta channel. It fixes a few issues and improves the game in a couple of areas.

New!

  • Better automatic resolution defaults. The game should make a good educated guess which resolution and refresh rate to play at, which should give you an optimal experience right off the bat.
  • Lowered occurrence of water in non-rainy weather
  • Water resistance is now added to the center of the body of the car instead of at the wheels (which should reduce spinouts by hitting water)
  • Removed oil slicks (they might come back in a better form later)
  • Fixed the brakes for the player car
  • Fixed ini resolution and refresh rates being picked up by the game

As always, post feedback in discussions or join our discord and post there.

Until next time.. Race well!

New update v1.21 available in beta channel now!

Hello!

Another smaller update is available now in the beta channel. It would be great if you wanted to play it before we release it for everyone. It's pretty easy if you have some technical experience.

Here's how!

So what's new?

  • Better automatic resolution defaults. The game should make a good educated guess which resolution and refresh rate to play at, which should give you an optimal experience right off the bat.
  • Fixed ini resolution and refresh rates being picked up by the game
  • Reworked boot up sequence (prone to bugs, here's why its still in beta)
  • Several other minor code improvements

As always, post feedback in discussions or join our discord and post there.

Of course this is only a quick update we wanted to get out fast. Lots of cool stuff is in the works for a real update later.

Thanks for your help!

New update v1.20 "Smooth Rising" live!

Hello everyone!

This smaller update fixes a couple of issues that has some nice benefits!

New!

  • Physics updates now follow the refresh rate of your monitor for SUPER SMOOTH rendering, especially on high-refresh rate monitors 75hz and beyond (theoretically up to 1000 hz).
  • Added online rank legend so you can see what ranks there are and which colors and how to reach them.
  • Added coloring to leaderboard for ranks. Names in leaderboards are now colored so you can see if you're close to the next rank!

Fixed!

  • Fixed top % label not showing high percentages correctly.
  • Fixed bug causing cars not to show on local leaderboards.

I can't believe how smooth it is on my 144hz screen now. Hopefully it helps ya'll out.

Race on!

New update live! v1.19 "Time Trial"

So here it is! This update is major overhaul of the way we use leaderboards and makes it more fun to chase times by creating a faster turnaround between attempts and a clearer view of how far from the top you are. In addition to that we've made several improvements. Details follow:

New!

  • Time trial mode - Just you and the track. Nothing in the way, take a maxed out car and focus on getting the best lap on any track and follow your progress on the improved online leaderboards (more about that below).
  • Updated leaderboard - Screens now show more entries in a better way for a greater overview. Comparing times to friends and seeing where you are on the global leaderboard is much easier now. We also calculate TOP % and give you a color and rank name depending on how far up the board you are.
  • All cars now continue to drive around after finishing to prevent cars from piling up and getting in the way
  • Re-race custom event - Wanna do it again? Now you can - even faster than before. Just press this button on the main menu and you'll jump ahead to load the race.

Improvements

  • Collision spark effect now only plays between cars
  • Steel fences now spark instead of sprinkle wood chips
  • Updated main menu layout get playable modes on top and settings and the like on the bottom more consistently
  • Improved auto-reversing a bit. It is now faster getting between reverse and forward movement.
  • Fixed issues with camera placement on race start
  • Fixed text alignment issues on listboxes and dropdowns

As usual we've done a ton of engine work and game code improvements to make this possible which doesn't show in a list like this.

And hopefully this next stint isn't as riddled with distractions like going to the hospital and stuff :) We'll try to make smaller updates every two weeks but depending on the amount of engine work required we'll probably end up around 3-4 weeks as it has been the past few updates.

Race on!

Leaderboard update news

Our plan was to release the leaderboard update yesterday and we thought we were done but during testing a blocking issue was found with gamepad input so we decided to postpone the update until that is fixed. Better to wait than to be broken right? Hope you agree.

Emergency delays update

Hi,

I was planning to finish up the leaderboard update this weekend but unfortunately had to have an emergency operation Friday morning. I will be more or less out of commission for a couple of weeks. I'll do my best to get it out next weekend but it depends on my recovery.

Thanks for your understanding and patience.
