Thank you all for your support. The new game project is still underwraps, but I can confirm it's a 2D platformer. I'm able to build off of Roah and I also hope to keep making Roah better.

Following changes have been made:

  • Can now change magic equip during a boss fight.
  • Can now chain downwards into upwards drill because fun.
  • New sound to indicate a foe with high damage reduction.
  • Kra platforms w i d e r.
  • After defeating the Risen Commander, it shows the exit of the boss room.
  • Added a stationary enemy next to the first insect bomb that is easy to hit.
  • Sekkian Incubators gains armor when spitting out enemies, but loses armor overtime.
  • Effects to show which objects switches affect when pressed.
  • Armor break now stuns the foe for 2 seconds.
  • Greater Crocorilla nerf.
  • Changes in the temple dungeon, mini dungeon.
  • Fixed a very rare softlock on the second to last boss.

September Patch

Thank you for your support. This patch revolves around adding some quality of life changes, some small segments to help tutorialise better and some more props/sounds.

A big change this patch is a small rework of the Tethria boss fight. Her armor has been removed in favor of some health. Her ink ball has changed and will leave a persisting projectile that you have to manage throughout the fight and acts as a soft enrage. The rest of her attacks are the same and you can still hit the tentacles to optimise damage and beat her quicker, which is now a more frequent part of the fight.

As a side note, I am working on a new game that is kept under wraps until further notice. I want to make a lot of content for it and iterations on it before I announce it so keep a lookout on my twitter or on grynsoft.com.

Following changes have been made:

  • Tethria has some new moves.
  • Added new sound for summoning a Forefather.
  • Updated icons like joystick wiggle when knocked down.
  • Improved normal swim dash speed.
  • Added new sound for the Sekkian Dracofly.
  • Added small segment in the beginning of the forest hive.
  • Made the first checkpoint in Deepest Depths a bit easier to see.
  • Added small segment in start of the Temple Dungeon.
  • Added Roah dialogue when reaching 0 savepoint charges for the first time.
  • New underwater and cave entrance graphics.
  • Down swing on spirit marks will now send you flying even if you don't hold left/right.
  • Added new sounds for Kt'i's jump and spin dash.
  • Added new sound for falling down pits.
  • Scrolls are now auto-equipped when you pick them up, not just the first one.
  • Added small segment by Avery.
  • Added new sound & effect for the Damp Bell.
  • Improved hitbox for Tail Spike.
  • Improved electricity effect.
  • Sea Queen Misu now requires a bit more to help you.
  • Added sounds to Field Marshal's death animation.
  • Added a tablet with some more lore and hints towards the King of Death boss fight.
  • Added "If consumed," to upgrade containers.
  • Added aiming marker graphics for attacks that aim at Roah.

  • Fixed issue with getting stuck on a ledge until you jumped if going up a slope.
  • Fixed issue with enemies sometimes not animating when they attack if they had just been stunned.
  • Fixed arrow lingering for a few frames after climbing.
  • Fixed Kt'i's rolling animation speed.
  • Fixed Kt'i's projectiles not always going away when being defeated.
  • Fixed camera spazzing a bit sometimes during respawn animation.
  • Fixed bouncing during the tail sliding tutorial scene.
  • Fixed knockdown wiggle visual sometimes being a little too much.
  • Fixed some text formatting.

  • Added guide lines to King of Death's spikes.
  • Added little magic icons to the magic replenishers.
  • Made damage and healing text have a size limit.
  • Fixed an issue with the menu sometimes getting stuck in shop-mode.
  • Added creepy ghost smoke to the crypt.

QOL Update

Following changes have been made:


  • Tail slam now hits knocked down opponents and is slightly faster.
  • Improved recovery time on Roah's pincer and tail slam.
  • Tighter control on Roah.
  • Fixed some typos.
  • Ladder improvements.
  • Moka & Latte's Bodyguard now shoots a little slower and has more time inbetween attacks.
  • Several animation changes to Roah including running stop.
  • Small Kt'i health reduction.
  • Small tethria health reduction.
  • Normal enemies have reduced invincibility.
  • Knockdown wiggle visual improvement.
  • Time limit inside the core increased.
  • Other small fixes.

QOL Update

The new QOL update featuring optimizations for lower-end PCs, new settings menu and other things is now ready.

- Big optimization improvements (Not noticeable on newer computers)
- New settings menu
- New control setting for gliding
- New graphical changes like moss in the sea world
- Updated area design in the Deepest Depths, to make the area a bit less open. Should be a bit more tightly packed now.

Spring Update

Hi, hope you're enjoying Roah c: !
Made some changes lately:


  • New outfit: The Woodlands Garb!
  • Final area now has some extra rooms leading up to the final bosses.
  • New room in the crypt to better show the Magistrix enemy.
  • New chests in the last area.
  • Combat Analyzer Module now also makes every attack jump cancellable and be able to hit knocked down opponents. It was a bit too specific to use, this should make it better overall.
  • Mia now gives you all the hints she currently has, instead of a random one. It wasn't clear that she could say multiple things if you kept asking her.
  • Item cooldowns now reset upon death.
  • Changed Kra flamethrower to last less time and he is better at aiming.
  • Last area now better shows where the death zones are.
  • Tethria now shuts up when you beat her.
  • Lowered Tethria's health a bit. Because of an armor change, her effective health was a bit higher than needed.
  • Tethria's phase change now has a moving lightning blanket, instead of appearing instantly.
  • Changed "exit" to "quit game" in the pause menu. It was a bit confusing and some players would accidentally press exit to try and return to the game.
  • King of Death has a new UI graphic for his secondary bar, and added visual effect to it that should make it more clear what it's doing.
  • Made outfits a bit pricier.
  • Mia would sometimes have empty items.
  • Combat Trainers would sometimes have 2 dialogue images.
  • Fixed animation issue with the Schematics scroll.

  • Kt'i will now fly up as she enters her final phase.
  • Added a new combat trial on the final combat trainer.
  • Fixed the Field Marshal spawning an abomination during her intro on Grandmaster difficulty.
  • Improved Kt'i's acid throw animation.
  • Fixed boss savepoints showing 20 charges instead of 15.

  • The final boss now loses armor as you hit, instead of when you exit. It should make it more clear.
  • New armor icon, should be more clear now.
  • Poison tick counter isn't reset upon doing a new poison attack. This should should help dealing damage with poison, as you don't have to wait for it to tick.
  • Kt'i's massive acid ball now has a new color, a guideline and is behind other projectiles. This helps with seeing where her acid spits land behind the ball- and to distinguish it from other projectiles

  • Fixed Roah being too lit up in the pause menu at times.
  • New bouncy cactus graphic
  • New insect swarm graphic for backgrounds
  • Optimization in the Deepest Depths.
  • How many containers you've gotten is now shown in the pause menu statistics.
  • Moka & Latte has a new hardmode attack where they both do their attacks for some time, instead of doing it at low health.
  • Added red swirl effects on some projectiles to be more clear.
  • Fixed being bounced back a little when flying in reverse gravity.

Outfit updates and more

- Added ethereal claws to the angel costume!
- Added golden plates and a golden tail to the princess costume!

- Having your gravity changed now also rotates the screen, making it much less disorienting for some players. I wanted to have part of the difficulty being the axis you walk on changing and adapting to it - but it proved to be too difficult for some players.
- Removed persistant flight controls option as it is no longer needed.

- Tail Spike is now much faster to perform
- Added more bubbles in the Deepest Depths
- Added lore tablets in the world that explain some of the backstory of Roah
- Added more dialogue to some bosses
- Poison energy now regenerates at a slow base rate

February 2020 Major Update!

Hi everyone,

I've made a big update to the game:

  • New trinket: Shaqaalian Bracers of Might - deal more damage, stun and crit damage based on your current health.
  • New trinket: Experimental Orbital Engine - collect random objects around you, shielding you and dealing damage to enemies around you!
  • New, extended area in the Kanel Woodlands Sekkian Hive
  • New, extended area and design changes in the Infinite Expanse
  • Trinket balance changes - Mainly buffed the Tidal Charm trinket's range and damage.
  • Fixed are issue where respawning to a save would put you in the wrong map.
  • You can no longer equip trinkets during a boss - Feeling a requirement to switching trinkets to optimize a boss felt bad, so now it's no longer possible.

Other updates:

  • Novice-only platforms - platforms will appear in the world, helping with some of the harder platforming segments.
  • New visual bar at the final boss - you can now visually see the progress of the laser and vulnerable phase and not just by the music.
  • No longer gains gems fighting bosses while flawless crystal is active.
