At Freejam, game development consists of experimental ideas and building on that initial seed with a passionate community, that formula has worked beautifully for Robocraft and Cardlife. Robocraft Royale followed a different path and has not achieved the popularity we had hoped, the game is simply not engaging enough to compete with already established Royale games, nor did the Robocraft community embrace the product because it lacked building which is a cornerstone of our brand. Although it was always our intention to add building, we admit not enough importance was placed on this aspect of the game in the early phases of development.
We have learned a lot from community that has formed around us and the 65,000+ players that came to play the game. You’ve told us what is important to you, we accept the mistakes we’ve made and relish the chance to learn and come back with a product tailored to the community.
After much deliberation of the options, we’ve decided to
close down our early access game on Steam We need time to reflect on what we’ve learnt and develop a new improved game based on improvements you’ve suggested.
We’d like to thank everyone for your input and involvement with Robocraft Royale, your time and feedback will not go to waste and we sincerely hope that you will come back and see what we have done with your comments. Your input is invaluable, your criticism is welcome, Freejam can only produce innovative products with a passionate and vocal audience. As we go through this transition we really hope you’ll continue to support us and get excited for what is to come.
Thank you and long live the cheese ‘n’ ham toastie!
Improvements Following Today's Quick Maintenance (29.03.18)
As promised we’re implementing small improvements during regular updates.
We'll be out of the office over until Tuesday due to public holidays, we'll take this time to think hard about where to take the game next.
Today we’re bringing you:
Three new character bots, a cheeky lil horse, a toaster that bite
s back and a ever watchful sentinel.
Auto reload for when you run out of ammo. You can still manually reload at any time.
Frame rate optimization (especially noticeable on the Vanguard)
Audio cue improvements
Very short transfer times between bots (1 second for starter bot, 2.5 for normal)
Enjoy discovering these, see you in game and keep letting us know what you think. Your feedback drives our development.
We're Back From A Quick Maintenance (28.03.18)
Greetings Robo-Royalers.
We want you to know we're listening, and we have a bunch of daily changes in the works so that you'll see steady improvements day on day.
Today we did a quick maintenance to:
Introduce a new starter Mech robot which will increase starter durability.
Greater weapon balance
Fix some bots which were suffering stability issues
Look forward to:
Resolving performance issues on our road to greater optimization
Giving you things to do while you wait in Queue
We’re Now Free-to-Play
Greetings fellow Robo-Royalers, Let's discuss your feedback from our launch yesterday and how Robocraft Royale will move forward from here.
We’ve listened, and Robocraft Royale is now free-to-play!
All those who bought the game will be refunded, just click here or wait for Steam to issue a forced refund.
Thank you for your passion and commitment supporting our game.
We feel that the core of the game itself is strong and we’re really enjoying watching players discover everything that our vast world has to offer. We want to get as many of you playing the game and enjoying the features we are going to provide, so we are changing the game from pay up front to free-to-play.
We aim to bring you the excitement that comes every time you deploy from the Vanguard. For us the game is broken if a match starts with fewer than 90 players. To fix this we’re going to need your support. That means we are now promising a period of development where we bring you the features you’ve asked for.
Remember you can no unlock a Dino Mask Cosmetic in the original Robocraft game when you play Robocraft Royale
Robocraft Royale’s development is community led and here are some of the things you’ve ask for which we want to implement:
The creative expression and user generated content of Robocraft to the Royale genre. Adding the crafting element without sacrificing the core Royale experience
Greater curating of community built character-bots, leading to themed events around particular character types and styles. We also want to host all sort of different competitions in tandem with Robocraft original
Ability for user to customize their experience from choosing different control styles to equipping cosmetics.
Map update that will add greater depth to the players experience as they explore to survive.
Team modes so that players can party up with their friends and collectively take each other on.
Blue-prints so you are rewarded with the option to possess a defeated enemies character-bot.
Implementing spectator modes and kill cameras so that every angle of the action can be enjoyed.
Fostering a competitive scene and player skill. So the best players can be awesome with the crazy characters on offer from the community.
We hope this excites you as much as it does us and we are grateful for your patience as we learn from this recent experimental phase. We’re looking forward to putting every effort we can into bringing the game we know you’ll enjoy.
Stay tuned as changes are incoming and keep on Robo-Royaling.
