When's the next update?

Update 1.2.0.4 Easy mode

Difficulty

A number of people have complained about the difficulty of the game and while many people feel that it is still far from difficult... I think that the different experiences is the result of casual gamers and those seeking a realistic brutal tycoon experience. Now it is up to you if you want an easy or realistic experience.

Changelog 1.2.0.4

Added an easy mode to the new game menu. It gives you an additional $14,500.

Update 1.2.0.3 Tension fixes, extended resolution support!

Tension events

Tension reducing events reduce tension by a certain percentage with each band member. This has unfortunately led to a lot of confusion. There were some bugs with tension changes not being saved properly but this has all been fixed.

Extended resolution support

I recently acquired a 4k monitor and realized that Rock God Tycoon doesn't support resolutions beyond 1920x1080. Upon seeing this I decided it was time for a small upgrade to the display system. The game window now centers properly for different resolutions and I've added support for 1366x768 as well as 1360x768 (not true 16:9 which previously led to various issues).

New hair bug?

Not sure why but this started happening...

I'm assuming it is due to the latest updates made to Game Maker but I can't say for sure. It is only this single hair style so it'll just be like this for now.

Changelog 1.2.0.3

Minor Changes
  • Resolution settings have been extended and now support resolutions as high as 3840x2160, and odd ones such as 1366x768, and 1360x768
  • Block booking of tension reducing events if there isn't enough money
  • Display available money on tension reducing events (except drug dealers)

Bug fixes
  • Window now centers properly with different resolutions
  • Fixed issues with tension reduction in tension reducing events

New bug
  • Hair bug with a single hairstyle, not sure why but can't fix it.

Update 1.2.0.2 Balancing and optimizations!

Reducing the grind/difficulty

Update 1.2.0.0 resulted in an endless grind where money was barely obtainable. The game progression was slowed to nearly a stop and so we listened to what the community had to say about it. As a result of your experiences and voices we have made a number of balance changes. You should be able to progress a lot easier now and a few of the more harsh changes we made have been undone.

Polishing changes

The game now runs in borderless windowed mode which should be a lot less annoying for the majority of users (especially content creators). Additionally I spent about an hour re-writing all of the rectangle drawing in the game to use a more optimal solution that while visually is the same, should result in much better performance. You may also notice a new help icon in the hiring screen if you start a new game. This was added to help prevent new users from using all of their income on hiring initially which often leads to an instant game over.

Changelog 1.2.0.2

Balancing
  • Busking income changed from $7-$10, to $10-$13
  • Busking fan gain changed from 0-3 to 1-5
  • Gig burnout gain rate reduced by 50%
  • Reduced weed overdose gain by 25%
  • Reduced city hype requirement from 25% of city population to 20%
  • Overdose threshold raised by 20%
  • Overdose chance reduced by 12.5%

Minor Changes
  • Tooltip button added to hiring screen for first time hiring budget
  • Optimized rectangle draws with custom rectangle drawing, difference should be noticeable for low-end users
  • Changed windowed mode to borderless

Bug fixes
  • Stripclub in Dover now has a background image

More information on v1.2!

Where is the update at?

We are still working on the update and at the moment we really can't say exactly when it will be made available. A lot of the update is implemented and looks to be very promising. We want to give you a sneak peak at a few of the things this update brings.

We estimate this update will be available by the end of this week.

Tension Relief

After a hard day of jamming in the studio your band will need to find a way to release some of that pent up tension. It's up to you to decide between fast food, strip clubs, bars, or even... drugs!

The system has been designed streamline this process and make it as un-grindy as possible. Time will fast forward briefly while your bandmates tension decreases.

Polish at every corner

Various parts of the game have an extra layer of polish to ensure the game looks gorgeous long into the future. In this example you'll hopefully notice that the map transition is a lot less robotic.

Travelling System Improvement

While I (Seabass) was playing the game I noticed that if you travel a short distance, you actually lose tension and travelling long distances with the higher tier vehicles had very little effect on the band. Upon notices these things I decided it was time to rewrite the math behind travelling. I think players should notice a pretty significant difference in consistency of results.

Another issue with travelling that this update addresses is its ability to skip gigs with no punishments. Prior to this update you could travel long distances and miss shows without any negative effects. Now you will see the proper outcomes occur even while travelling.

Thanks!

We both want to thank everybody in the community for taking the time to give Rock God Tycoon a chance and by doing so... showing some faith in our team. We don't have a lot of outreach beyond Steam so we rely on good ole' word of mouth and social media. Seeing people post videos, reviews, and everything else feels unreal, and we can't thank you enough.

The next big update is coming! Version 1.2

Hey everyone!

It has been nearly two weeks since our last update which is a long time if you have ever taken notice of our regular update schedule. Panos and I have been working hard on the next update and really wanted it to be special. Quality of life improvements are nice but updates can be so much more. The next update will bring the game to version 1.2!

What will be in version 1.2?

We have overhauled the UI and this time around have included the new calendar system in the process. You can click on the calendar and view your schedule without opening any additional menus.

From within the calendar you can get more information on planned events.

Panos has recreated all of the previous event icons which now look beautiful.

New events!

Another major change we will be introducing are a series of new events. We've completely redesigned the gameplay loop to get rid of as much of the grind as possible. There is so much to talk about that I don't even have the time to write it all out right now. So here is the new and improved map legend! (No more random question mark on it)

Performance Improvements

If everything else we did wasn't exciting enough, there are numerous performance improvements as well. A lot of backend cleanup has been done which should help improve the quality of future updates. The few bugs we've ran into we have addressed and solved.

New character actions and so much more!

I seriously wish we had more time to write about all the changes coming in the next update but we are quite busy as it is. The main point we are trying to get across with this post is that we still are here and care about the community! We'll continue improving the game and as we move forward we hope to address any and all concerns the community has shared with us.

News regarding Rock God Tycoon

We decided there are a number of key components we still need to implement before we can finish festivals and so we will be doing a few smaller things prior to that. One of the upcoming changes is staff members! We don't have much to show just yet but we have a lot in the works.

Update 1.1.6.0 New Game Improvements & Rhythm Gameplay Tutorial

We bring to you another significant update! We haven't had any complaints as of recently and so we figured we should just add more good stuff anyways. This is not to say we aren't still working on user suggestions and taking feedback.

New Game improvements

Panos figured that it would really improve the early game and overall replayability if we gave players the choice of a starting perk. Prior to this update each playthrough started off along the exact same path and didn't see a lot of variety until a few hours into the game.

Some of the perks you can now start with will make a very significant difference early on and you can take a less significant perk if you want to try a more challenging run through the game.

Rhythm Gameplay Tutorial

At long last there is a bit of information on how you actually perform the rhythm gameplay. This has been missing for quite a while and now that Panos is back, he got right on it. Additionally you can now pause during performances which is a pretty helpful feature.

Changelog 1.1.6.0

Major Changes
  • New start screen options for your character that lead to different values of money/skills on the new game.
  • Implemented pausing during rhythm gameplay
  • Rhythm gameplay tutorial is now available, can be accessed via the tutorial button on the pause menu during rhythm gameplay

Minor Changes
  • Band solidity bar on band info is now green instead of red
  • Made some changes to the map screen UI, time display has been moved

Bug fixes
  • Band solidity bar on band info is now green instead of red
  • Cities with record labels are experiencing messed up hover tooltips (fixed)
  • Datebox cancellation tooltip fixed, no longer gets stuck being displayed
  • Fixed tempo 180, break 12b bass had no sound
