This is an important notice that as per previous mention, Rock 'N Roll will be increasing in Price to $12.99 USD. This is still lower than the previously mentioned price increase to $14.99 USD at the end of the summer announced months ago.
This price increase is being made due to my firm belief that Rock 'N Roll remains one of the best Asteroids type action games available on Steam. I also believe that it holds a very strong replay value and that no two games will ever be exactly the same. I currently have over 200 hours of playtime myself, and that doesn't include all the testing and development time spent in the game.
Over 100 updates since the launch of Rock 'N Roll more than two years ago have vastly improved this game since it launched and more content is planned as well. I lot of these updates have significantly improved the game and/or added game changing new content.
Look for more updates to Rock 'N Roll in the coming weeks and months this fall, including a new super boss that will form from the asteroids when you fail to keep moving enough to keep an all new motivation light green.
More planned updates include all new local multiplayer co-op and versus modes and these updates will all be free included in the $12.99 price. I was previously thinking of making the co-op and versus modes DLC add on's, but have decided to just make it all one price and plan to pack this game full of incredible value, if it's not already value rich.
In today's over saturation of 3D games, I understand that not many people can appreciate a well made 2D retro action game, however for those who can enjoy an indie game made from from the heart, Rock 'N Roll delivers big time!
UPDATE 2.21 - For the Love of Rock 'N Roll, Asteroid Shooting Gets Less Tedius & More Fun!
Hello everyone!
I sat down and played Rock 'N Roll last night for the first time in a long time and it's amazing how much you learn as you developer other games. I've changed a few things and fixed a few annoying little problems with this update..
- The collision box of your bullets has been doubled to make hitting the small asteroids and asteroid chunks (when asteroids crumble) much easier and less tedious to hit. I had increased the collision box of the smallest chunks not long after Rock 'N Roll launched back in the summer of 2017, but now adding a bigger hitbox for your bullets just makes blasting the rocks much more enjoyable!
- Increased the fire range of your standard bullets by 25%. Decreased the range of Rapid Fire bullets by 18%. Rapid Fire Bullets now have only a slightly longer ranger than your normal fire but still have a much faster rate of fire.
- Changed the color of your bullets to a light red when you have the Rapid Fire power-up and to a light blue color when you have the Bouncy Shots power-up to help distinguish the bullets and what power-up you have at all times.
- Adjusted all asteroids wrap-around ranges so they will no longer "pop" in on top of you when wrapping from side to side of from top to bottom. All asteroids should now smoothly move when wrapping around making the edges of the screen all the way around much more predictable and less risky to a big asteroid just wrapping around and landing right on top of you.
- Adjusted the score for defeating the Monster Rock boss mode VDS from 15,000 points to 50,000 points as defeating him after the long battle just needed bigger rewards in contrast to the other two boss modes.
- Fixed an issue that prevent you from being able to use a MESA shield protection power-up you collect on the next level if you already had MESA when you collected the power-up.
- Fixed an issue that would prevent you from getting shot accuracy bonus points after defeating a wave of asteroids on the statistics screen between levels. You would get the bonus points prior but only if you wanted about 5 seconds before moving to the Galactic Selling Station, this will now make sure you get your shot accuracy bonus points no matter how quickly you move to the Galactic Selling Station.
- Fixed the scoring stats area at the end game screen so that there is now room to show how many asteroids you destroyed in total without these numbers showing up over the description text if the numbers were more than 3 digits (1,000+)
- Fixed an issue that would cause a full screen game to go back to a windowed mode every time you go back to the main menu screen from any other screen.
- Adjusted the color of your trail to a pinkish purple when playing the Hard Rock Mode.
- Added shot smoke effects to help show where the asteroids were shot at you from on the borders in the Hard Rock mode.
- Changed the look of your thrust effects as well as your movement trail in the Mission mode to have a cleaner look.
- Changed the look of your ship to have a cleaner, less blurred look in the Mission mode.
Potential Upcoming Multiplayer GameMode! .."ROCKIN' GOAL" Space Soccer!
What other game would get this much love? What other game would ever be my first game that will finally allow Steam friends to connect and play together? ..Could it happen? - Maybe!
Rockin' Goal is definitely a name I've come up with for this potential additional game mode to my Rock 'N Roll game! I mean it rhymes, and it could offer completely different type of gameplay that you could play against a friend or loved one!
The object would be to bounce a space ball using your ship into your opponents goal! ..Think Rocket League but out in space with no gravity at all. Asteroids could be in the way and could be blasted not for points but to either try and clear them out of the way or to sabotage your opponent! You'd want to consider everything however as while you are shooting rocks, your opponent might be taking the ball into your goal for actual points!
It's all just an idea at this point but I'd love to know what you think! ..Please let me know in the comments below! =)
UPDATE 2.20 - Steam High Scores Are Now In The Game! Plus "Hard Rock Mode" Gets A Massive Overhaul!
The Hard Rock Mode finally gets an overhaul to not only how it looks, but also a massive overhaul to how it feels and plays for a more exciting and more fun game experience!
Here's a look at the old UI compared to the new UI in the Hard Rock mode. A similar overhaul was made last summer to the main Mission Mode:
Also in this update is a fully functional Steam high score list which allows you to see the current up-to-the-minute high scores right from the main game screen for both the main Mission Mode - OR - The Hard Rock mode!
Mission Mode High Scores:
Hard Rock Mode High Scores:
And here is a screenshot of the full Hard Rock mode new look:
The Hard Rock mode has not only been drastically improved with a cleaner, more streamlined UI, but it has also seen a significant rework of all the old code to work out the awkward border bounces of your ship against the outside wall and prevent the asteroids from getting stuck in the wall. This may still happen occasionally as all my new code will need to be tested, but I am 100% certain it has been dramatically improved!
Please give it a try if you haven't played it in a while or if perhaps you've never tried the Hard Rock mode! It is definitely fast & furious and super addicting fun! ...Seriously, if you can last a minute in this relentless action mode, you'll be doing well!
------------------------------ Notice of upcoming price increase... Rock 'N Roll will be seeing a price increase from the current $7.99 USD price point to $14.99 USD at some point after the Steam summer sale. -------------------------------
I hope you enjoy the changes and the high scores added to the game for the convenience of not having to go to the Steam page just to look up and see where you rank versus others! ..Please let me know in the comments below!
UPDATE 2.17 - Gold Heart DLC Owners Can Change From Blue To Gold Ship With F9 Key
Update 2.17 fixes an issue with the recent Gold Heart Domestic Abuse DLC and everyone should now properly see their gold ship in the game.
Keep in mind that the gold ship is not seen in the tutorial or in the Hard Rock mode, only in the main Mission Mode.
If you own the Gold Heart DLC, you'll also now be able to simply press your F9 key to alternate between the gold ship and the standard blue ship. To make this transformation, just make sure you are on a standard level of asteroids in the Mission mode and that you are not hurt or green in color because you have the "Smasher" power up. You can be moving when you make the transformation with a press of your F9 key.
This update also sees a fix in the Monster Rock mode where the monster rock would awkwardly move up and back down when being broken down in size in the electric field. This only happened if you were using the hand drawn asteroids. It has been fixed and now breaks down properly without the odd shift in position.
You'll also now get flashing indicators while playing the Mission mode when you have an A55 Kicker available to craft..
..and also an indicator when your existing A55 Kicker is available for an upgrade as shown here:
The only other change in this update is a message reminder when the Earth Protect mode starts that you can use SHIFT or the R2 throttle button on a controller to move your ship faster around the Earth.
PLEASE NOTE that as per the previous price change update back in early January, the price of Rock 'N Roll is moving up in price from $5.99 USD to a median $7.99 USD. (The old price was $10.99). This should be the final price change for Rock 'N Roll and a price I firmly believe is a great price and offers tremendous value considering the amount of updates and content that has been added to this game since it launched back in the summer of 2017. (You can browse through the 100+ updates and announcements if you want to see everything that has been added and changed since Rock N Roll launched)
I hope you are enjoying Rock N Roll if and when you play my game! Have a great day/night and thanks for reading! =)
Price Reduction from $10.99 USD to just $5.99 USD on Monday, January 7, 2019
After seeing a Christmas and New Years special discounted price, I've decided to offer Rock 'N Roll at a new much lower overall price tag of just $5.99 USD. This price change to $5.99 USD for Rock 'N Roll should be in effect on Monday, January 7, 2019.
After a couple of months at the lower $5.99 price, I do plan on increasing the price up to $7.99 or $8.99 but not as high as the previous $10.99. Expect this median price sometime in late February or early March.
Rock 'N Roll has been a very difficult indie game to price as I do believe that it offers plenty of value to fans of the market for this type of game to justify a $10 price tag, but I do want to offer a great value to everyone who purchases my first title here on Steam. It is a game that just doesn't seem to sell better even at a massively discounted rate, so I feel I need to set the price point at this very affordable point which I believe still offers a fantastic value for my customers.
This little asteroid blasting, Earth defending action game now has a ton of development and work put into it (500+ hours) and 100+ updates and changes I've made to this game since it launched in early access on Steam back on July 13 of 2017. I believe that a price point of $7.99 or $8.99 is a fair balance (not way too little as my recent Christmas discount price of 99 cents, yet not too expensive for this type of a game as the previous $10.99 price)
I hope you agree that a new lower price of $7.99 or $8.99 USD price tag on Rock 'N Roll offers a big bang for it's price when you consider all of the content I've added it it since I first launched it on Steam in early access 18 months ago now! I also want to give this game a couple of months at this $5.99 price point today. ..But be sure you comment below or on my forums and let me know!
- Have a great day everyone and remember that everyone needs a little "Rock 'N Roll" in their life! ;-)
UPDATE 2.16 - G.E.O.S. Gems Are No Longer Shattered By Zaxpoleon Dynamite!
Hello everyone, and if you are reading this new, super small change to the game in this update before the holidays, I want to personally wish you and your loved ones a very happy holiday season and new year!
This update, as the title states is just a simple change to protect those valuable G.E.O.S. gems from being shattered if you accidentally fill your G.E.O.S. progression bar with a dynamite blast and spawn a G.E.O.S. gem.
It could feel frustrating to make a very well placed dynamite that destroyed many asteroids only to see the the G.E.O.S. progression bar fill up and spawn a well earned G.E.O.S. gem that could save the Earth and have it immediately shattered! This has now been changed and G.E.O.S. gems are now invulnerable to Zaxpoleon dynamite explosions!
Keep in mind that you still want to be careful with Zaxpoleon dynamite as you can still blow up yourself or your A55 kicker with the blasts, so watch out for you and that lovely beer can turret you earned! =)
Have a good one and thanks for reading this update and for playing my game!
** NOTICE OF PRICE INCREASE FROM $6.99 USD TO $10.99 USD EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY **
Hello to everyone who reads this message...
Since I initially launched this game as my first published indie game ever back in July of 2017, it has seen numerous price adjustments, some raising the price and a couple lowering the price. In the end however, when I take a look at other games that have the same type of gameplay and mechanics as Rock 'N Roll available on Steam, I firmly believe that no other game delivers this kind of experience. While a few other games might offer a little flashier graphics than Rock 'N Roll, no Asteroids type game offers the depth, the number of power-ups, or the number of updates to both content and balance that Rock N' Roll has seen since it launched more than a year ago. With over 100 updates now, few games on Steam, even AAA titles seen this level of dedication and hard work poured into them after they launch here.
All it takes to see what you get for your money with Rock 'N Roll is browsing through the 100+ updates and additional content expansions that I've added to the game over the past 15 months.
You can also read this last price increase notice to get an example of just some of the changes this game has seen:
https://steamcommunity.com/games/665930/announcements/detail/2513453569782577148
More content is planned for Rock 'N Roll in the coming months, but rather than give details or planned times, I'd rather just add them with no pressure.
Rock 'N Roll is a game I am proud of, and planned additional updates will continue to add to both the depth and value of this game, even at this new increased price.
I still believe that Rock 'N Roll delivers one of the best retro action experiences fans of old classics like the original Asteroids offered back in it's day. Even Asteroids as it was on arcade machines can't come close to offering the depth or feel that this game now contains. At $10.99 USD, I firmly believe that Rock 'N Roll still offers a fantastic overall value.
UPDATE 2.15 - More Fixes Come, Mostly To the Monster Rock Boss Mode..
Several little problems with Monster Rock were fixed in this update including...
- Fixed an issue that caused an upgraded a55 turret to get stuck in the electrical monster rock shrinking beam
- Fixed an issue that would cause using dynamite on the monster rock to change a realistic monster rock to a hand drawn rock
- Fixed an issue that would cause the monster rock to not take correct damage from a dynamite blast. This now works as intended.
- Nerfed the A55 turret when shooting the VDS as the A55 was simply way too powerful against the VDS. The upgraded a55 will now properly hunt down the VDS but it will take it about four times as long to do similar damage to the VDS as before.
- You'll now score points for both shooting the monster rock towards the VDS and for healing the earth from damage with a health icon pickup in the Monster Rock boss mode
- Successfully destroying the monster rock will now award you with big points plus all the loot and resource drops as before. The scoring award for destroying the monster rock is 10,000 points plus an additional 1,000 points per level you destroyed the monster rock on (so for example if you destroy the monster rock on level 6 of your game, you'll score 16,000 points once the monster rock blows up) Note that the difficulty of your game chosen has no bearing on this score event, only the level you've advanced to does.
- Adjusted the required time to complete levels for bonus points to be more challenging than before. You'll now need to work quickly to get time bonus points as intended.
- In the Galactic Upgrade Center, the GEOS sign will now properly turn off after you've purchased your limit of one per visit to the station.
- Fixed an issue that prevented the Earth Protect bonus level to come up between levels, now you should get a more rounded mix of playing the Earth Protect! bonus round, the Monster Rock boss level and the Red Alien UFO boss level.
- Decreased the time between Earth explosions in the end game fate screen to reduce the waiting time as the 50 earths explode after you've protected you choice of Earth reflections with any GEOS gems you earned
That's it for this update!
UPDATE 2.14 - All Cheats Explained To Help Newer Players AND Fixes To Some Minor Issues in the Monster Rock Mode!
In this update, I've fixed a couple of issues that would only occur while in the Monster Rock mode seen here:
In the Monster Rock Mode, your ship will be blue if healthy and red in color if you are damaged as in the asteroid blasting normal mode.
Also, because of the ability to pick up health to heal the Earth with in this mode, if you are blue (healthy) when you pick up a health delivery, you will turn purple in color to show that you are both healthy and have a health delivery you can take to Earth to help deal some of its damage.
If you pick up a health delivery for Earth while injured or if you are purple in color which is healthy and take damage from a smaller rock, you will turn pink in color to reflect that you are both damaged and have a health deliver for Earth.
Prior to this update, you would be invincible to taking damage from rocks while injured with a health delivery for Earth. This has been fixed and you will now explode and lose a life if you crash while injured with a health delivery for Earth.
Also, before this update, sometimes you would never heal from damage if you were pink in color (damaged and carrying a health delivery for Earth). This has been corrected in this update.
Also before this update, sometimes after delivering health to the Earth, your ship would stay purple and not change back to the correct color causing a little confusion while playing. This situation has been fixed in this update.
Please note that all fixes and this update were made to ONLY THE MONSTER ROCK boss battle.
---------------------
Please remember a few things with Rock 'N Roll:
When playing the Mission Mode, you can save a game in progress while visiting the Upgrade Space Station between levels of asteroids. To save a game while visiting the Upgrade Station, simply press the F1, F2, F3 or F4 key. There are four grey ball indicators seen at the update station reflecting any current game saves that exist (an existing game save will be green).
To load an existing saved game, just press the desired F1, F2, F3, or F4 key while at the game's main menu. (Again, existing saved games will be shown on the main menu with green lit up spheres in the bottom right of the main menu screen)
Also from the Main Menu, you can activate a few cheats:
- Press CTRL and the G key to start the Mission Mode with 500,000 in GalaxCasH.
- Press CTRL and the M key to start the Mission Mode at the Monster Rock boss screen allowing you to play this boss battle right from the start!
- Press CTRL and the P key to start the Mission Mode at the Earth Protect! bonus level allowing you to play this bonus level to rack up some easy points and GalaxCasH!
Also another cheat is available while playing any boss battle or any asteroid level of the Mission mode and this will add 5 extra lives for you with a single press of the F5 key on your keyboard! You can use this cheat as many times as you desire, the only limit is that you can never have more than 99 using this F5 single key cheat!
* Please note that using any of the above four cheats described will label you as a cheater at the end game statistic screen when your game is over AND using any of these cheats will also prevent your high score from being uploaded to the Steam high score list for that game the cheat was used.
..No harm will come from using these cheats, so have fun with them and use them if you desire to play the game how you want to play it!
