UPDATE 2.07 - Extra Life Save/Load Exploit Bug Fixed, New Boss Sound Effects, More!
Today while playing my own game, I came across a big time glitch I simply overlooked when I added the save and load game feature to this game back in January when it was requested by a player in the forums.
While the save game feature saved 44 different variables to keep track of all your stats, GEOS gems, lives, score, prices, stats, and everything in the upgrade station.. I overlooked saving one vital thing (variable in code terms). I forgot to save the games tracking of how many extra lives it had already given you as a player! OMG, how could I have overlooked that!?! haha!
So basically what could happen is that a player could have a good game going, get to 500k points for example and make it to the Upgrade station, save the game, then quit and reload the game and the game would give the player the 11 extra lives they had already earned before saving the game AGAIN! If the score was a million when they saved the game and then reloaded that saved game, the game would give them 21 additional lives!
Embarrassing mistake, especially since I didn't find it in my own testing of the game since I added in the save & load feature back in January! None-the-less, it has been fixed now, and looking at the high scores, it doesn't really look like anyone else found it or abused it, perhaps maybe the top high score now perhaps took advantage of that, hard to say for sure, - but the 1.8 million high score is certainly achievable without taking advantage of this little bug exploit. I see no reason to reset the current high score list.
Also added to the game in this patch:
* New Boss Sound effect: Whenever the end level boss changes it's vulnerable side to a new side of his ship, you'll hear a new sound. Watch the "BOSS HP" word before the boss health bar to see what side of the boss is most vulnerable to your attack when you hear this sound! (the vulnerable side of the end level boss ship is shown by a bar either on the top side, bottom side, left side, or right side of the words "BOSS HP:"
* If you get an A55 Kicker power up and then earn another A55 on the same level so you have two A55 Kickers when the level is cleared, you'll now get to take BOTH A55 Kickers in against the end level boss with you!
* The end level boss is now about 50% less likely to now shoot at your A55 Kicker(s) when it fires a lightning ball shot, which means those shots are now likely headed right at YOU instead! This change was made to try and help players keep their A55's a little longer in these end level boss battles. Also remember that the end level boss always makes a low "chug" sound just before it fires a shot to give you time to dodge out of harm's way. Make sure your effects volume is turned up in the game settings if you can't hear it!
* Fixed a visual bug that caused your saved game indicators from the main menu to sometimes look weird when going back to the main menu from the Controls menu.
Besides that, it's the same game! Keep Rocking and please let me know if you come across any bugs or glitches or if you have any other feedback or suggestions.. that is what the forums are for!

UPDATE 2.06 - Small Fix & E.T. Doesn't Heal You Anymore
Really small update here people, but I finally tracked down and squashed a little bug that happened on rare occasion since I added the E.T. power-up.
What would sometimes happen is if you collected an Smasher power-up (which should turn your ship green in color or yellow in color if you are damaged at the time) it would instead give your ship the E.T. cloaked look. You wouldn't really have E.T. and would really have the Smasher power-up but when this happened it would or could definitely be confusing.
That bug was finally squashed I do believe, and as always, a developer always hopes that fixing one bug doesn't create another issue somewhere else, lol
I also changed the E.T. power-up so that if you collect this power-up while damaged (red in color), you'll now see your ship cloaked but see a red outline around the edge of your ship indicating that after your E.T. power-up expires, you'll go back to the damaged state and need to wait the remaining time for your ship to self repair.
For example, if you take a hit from an asteroid that doesn't kill you but changes your ship to red and the auto-repair time is 20 seconds... if you collect an E.T. power-up exactly 8 seconds after taking that hit, you'll see the E.T. power-up with a red outline which doesn't change the power-up itself. You'll still be invulnerable until the power-up time expires, but when the power-up time does expire, your ship will go back red in color showing you are still damaged and in auto-repair for the remaining 12 seconds.
Hopefully that makes sense. It's pretty simple to understand just playing the game and seeing it all happen live.
Anyhow, that's it for this update. I'm still trying to figure out how to implement the Monster Rocks into the game in a way that I really like. I've tried and tested a couple of different things, but i'm just not happy with it yet. I don't want to just add something to my game that doesn't feel right or that isn't as much fun as it should be. I'm sure I'll figure it out in time however.
If you have any ideas, notice any imbalances, bugs, or issues.. or if you have any suggestions, as always please feel free to comment below or in the forums for this game!
As always, Rock On!
Shouting Out: Another Fine Action Shooter! "Arena 3D" Scores a 97% on my personal Scoring System, Earns My "Must Buy" Recommendation!
Hey people! If you are looking at my game here, or of you already a fan or owner of Rock 'N Roll, I want to shout out another fine retro action shooter you all should check out here on Steam..
This is one damn fine game, super fun with three different game modes at one helluva great price! I honestly have NO relation with the developer or publisher of this game, but was just pleasantly surprised at how much fun this little indie gem is!
I mean, I scored it at a 97% score as a Youtube content creator who plays and scores a lot of these small unheard of indie games all the time. I love finding "diamonds in the rough" and "ARENA 3D" is certainly a gem!
I wish that developer the best of luck here on Steam and also personally look forward to seeing both what he adds to Arena 3D and what else he launches in the future! ..Any indie developer who puts up such a well made game at such a great price deserves attention, even if his game does compete against my own! My goal is always to help other gamers like myself find great little indie gems!
If you go buy Arena 3D, please comment below and let me know if you agree that it's a "damn fine game"! :-)
Have fun everyone!
UPDATE 2.05 - A Few Changes & "Easy 99 Lives" Cheat Is Live!
Hello everyone! I hope you all are doing well out there! This update should make any of you that find this game just a little difficult but "fun" happy!
Now at any time during your normal game mode you can simply press the F5 key to immediately be awarded an extra 5 lives! You can also spam the F5 key to quickly give yourself up to 99 lives at any given time! That's right! (You need to make sure your ship is spawned to use this cheat as in make sure you're not dead waiting to re-spawn) Using this cheat even once during your game will void your high score being uploaded to the Steam high score leaderboards however. ..I know, I'm no fun, lol.
Other changes in this update:
- The A55 Kicker has been added to the tutorial mode to assist you in cleaning up the asteroids quickly.
- The Level Selection screen has been completely changed to now just give a brief objective and show you the power-ups you can collect in game versus the walls of text seen before.
- You can no longer save your game immediately after loading a saved game. You'll need to advance at least one level and visit the Galactic Upgrade Center again before it will allow you to save your game. (You'll get a voice message telling you this if you try to save your game right after loading)
- The slow music from the end game now stops as it should if you choose to play a new game. (bug fix)
- Your money is now properly saved and loaded when you save your game (bug fix)
- The end boss ship looks have been edited to give it a better overall appearance and shocking look
- You should no longer be able to collect "Close Call" bonus points while shielded for the 5 seconds after spawning a new ship.
- If you collect all the resources and power-ups after killing a boss, the game will move you immediately to the "Level Complete" screen without making you wait for the remaining count down.
- The main menu now shows the two cheats available in the game. Cheat Greedy which can give you an extra $500,000 game cash and can be used once per game from the main menu and the new +5 lives cheat from the main game at any time. Keep in mind that the +5 cheat will prevent any high score you achieve from being uploaded to the Steam leaderboards, however using Cheat Greedy for $500,000 cash will still upload a high score if you set one. Both cheats will stamp your final stats screen as a "CHEATER!" however.
That's about it for this update, please let me know if you experience any new bugs or issues with this update and as always, comments and your thoughts are always appreciated!
Enjoy!
UPDATE 2.04 - A Few Minor Fixes and Tweaks
Nothing new in this update, but for those who were rebinding their keys and seeing the keys they mapped going back to the default keys if they played a second game.. this patch fixes that... A huge thanks to kiates for reporting that small bug so I could squash it promptly!
So here we go:
- Remapped key bindings will no longer go back to default keys if you choose to play another game from the final statistic screen.
- A bug was fixed that would cause the game to shut down on rare occasion for Windows 8 users specifically. This is actually a Windows 8 known issue with many games, but a work around has been made in this game that should fix this issue.
- The credits screen now gives credit to the fonts used in the game that are restricted from commercial use without credit and/or payment.
- Rock 'N Roll will now start in full screen mode by default and can still be manually switched to and from windowed mode with the F key from most screens.
- When in windowed mode, you can now adjust the window size manually by dragging the corner of the window just as you would a Windows window. The aspect ratio will stay the same within the game however (16:9)
I think that covers it. Please keep the reports coming, especially for bugs and issues you might experience in the game. Let me know if you like the game starting in full screen by default is a good (or bad) change in your opinion below!
Rock On!

UPDATE 2.03 - Doing Great In Rock 'N Roll And Something Comes Up? Save Your Game and Load It All Back Later! + Intense 1,000 Point Close Calls Return!
I've been really busy the past couple of weeks updating Rock 'N Roll with a lot of new stuff, most of it coming from the single negative review I've received and suggestions from fans of this game!
In this patch, the big addition is the ability to save your game progress during the middle of a standard game and reload it back up at your convenience! This was a suggestion made by Steam user Arkabed, and I am thankful to everyone for their feedback and suggestions!
You have four possible game save slots available at any given time now, and the game shows you exactly where they are and what key press is used to activate them when you are ready! Game saves are tied to the F1, F2, F3, and F4 function keys.
TO LOAD A PREVIOUSLY SAVED GAME:
To load a game, you must be on the Main Menu of the game as seen in the screen shot image above. The game will show in the lower left corner what keys have a saved game by highlighting those keys Green in color. When you load a saved game, it will return you back to the Galactic Space Station where you last saved your game and delete that save file. All stats you've earned from the game you left will be restored completely, including points, G.E.O.S. gems, GEOS progression bar progress, lives, spi-rolls, dynamite, as well as 42 other stats that were being tracked towards your final game statistics and rating screen!
TO SAVE A GAME IN PROGRESS:
To save a game, you'll need to make it to the Galactic Upgrade Station to do this, and once there.. it couldn't be easier to do. Simply press the Function key (F1, F2, F3, or F4) you want to save your game to, and presto! Done! The game also highlights what save slots are empty in green and which ones are currently already used in red at the bottom of this screen.
Note that you cannot save a game in more than one slot from a single Upgrade Station visit. If you advance to the Upgrade Station again in the same game, you'd be able to save the game again to a different key if you desire.
Also Note that all game data saves are encrypted save files, so if you think you can just go find the save file and easily give yourself 400,506,405,987 points and a billion Zaxpoleon Dynamite, well.. it won't be quite that easy! ;-)
-----------------
Also in this update is the return of "Close Calls"!
Now you can really rack up the bonus points for taking the risk and flying dangerously close to death and surviving! 1,000 points are scored for every close call you have and to get the close call bonus points, your ship must be going at a minimum speed of 100 as indicated in the UI at the top left of your screen.
Note that the game records your speed at the 1/60th of a second that you almost end your life, so for example.. if you are flying at a speed of 80 when you nearly hit an asteroid, but then speed up as you make your escape to 200, that will NOT count as a "close call" scoring event. You'll hear the voice scream at you like "Ohhh My!" or "Watch out!" but the scoring is based on your ships speed at the split second you come closest to your death.
I hope you enjoy this update and the ability to save your game if something comes up and you were in the middle of really doing well. No longer will you have to lose your game progress because something comes up, but you will have to make it to the Galactic Upgrade Station to save your game.
If you are playing and doing well in Rock 'N Roll and know something might need your attention soon, saving your game EVERY time you visit the Galactic Space Station might be a wise idea, that way if you do have to go in the middle of the action, at least you'll already have it backed up from the spot of your last Upgrade Station visit. I hope this helps some of you enjoy my game more or get more out of it! :-)

UPDATE 2.02 New Flashy Power-Up Indicator & Tweaks and Oiled Squeaks
Hey people..
Main addition in this small patch is I added a new flashy multi-colored power-up indicator to make it much more obvious when power-ups spawn on the screen.
You'll now see how many total rocks that remain on the screen in really small print under your score. I'll probably either remove this in the near future or give players a toggle button to toggle it on and off like the FPS indicator on the opposite side of the screen. Let me know if you like it or just want it gone, heh.
I've also added a quick check in the code to make sure a player isn't just hording powerups such as spi-rolls and dynamite easy with one or two small rocks left at the end of a wave. The game will now seriously decrease your chances of any power-ups spawning when you only have a few rocks on the screen. Having more than 15 rocks on the screen ensures you have the best chance of getting power-up spawns. The less rocks there are, the lower the chances of power-ups spawning as of this update.
Another change in this update is that you will no longer advance to the end boss battle if there is a VDS alive. You'll need to either kill him or die trying to advance! Remember to keep some dynamite and spiroll attacks for this situation because taking a VDS out with just your firepower alone might be very difficult!
There's a few other minor tweaks and fixes in this patch but othing too major, just timing of the level ending for smoother transitions to the boss screen, stuff like that.
Until my next update, Enjoy that good ol' Rock N Roll!
