Rock 'N Roll

DOLLAR SALE DISCOUNT DELAYED! (Starts Tuesday, January 16, 10AM PST)

I want to apologize to anyone who might have been wanting to snag Rock 'N Roll today as today was the original start date set for my 84% off sale! Due to issues completely beyond my control, it looks as if my two week sale got pushed back until tomorrow and will start TUESDAY, January 16th and will run a full TWO WEEKS ending on Tuesday, January 30th. The times on both the start and end dates is 10:AM PST.

This sale price is likely to be a "one-time" only discount for this game at such a low price. However, since Rock 'N Roll launched in early access way back on July 13th of 2017, it has accumulated hundreds of Steam users adding it to their "wish lists". I hope that offering this game at such a great price (95 cents USD) will give everyone who wants to play it a good opportunity to purchase it.

Happy Rocking!

UPDATE 1.95 - Two Week 95 Cent Sale! ..End Level Bosses & Zaxpoleon Dynamite Is In NOW!

Welcome to Rock 'N Roll version 1.95 for which I will be offering a whopping 84% discount for a full two weeks (Jan 15 until Jan 29) which means you can land this new updated version of Rock 'N Roll for less than a dollar! (..Just 95 cents in USD!)

"Zaxpoleon Dynamite" is in NOW! Watch how it works in this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9qnyjZ3idc
This is an early version of the upcoming version 2.0 and now has the implemenation of both "Zaxpoleon Dynamite" and end level bosses who will try and destroy you to steal your valuable resources that you've collected!

I fully expect that there will be many balance changes and a few bugs to fix before I release version 2.0. Not in yet, but still in the works is a full featured Tutorial mode to walk new players into the game as it will showcase all the features. power-ups, and 'how to survive' in the game.

With this release, I have reset all high scores for the normal Rock 'N Roll game mode. (The global high score list for Hard Rock mode is left as is) and I want to let everyone know that with balance changes expected before I release version 2.0, the high scores for the main game mode will VERY LIKELY BE RESET AGAIN. It doesn't make any sense to keep a high score list for an obsolete version of the game where so many major scoring changes and the entire balance of the game has changed so much.

The big scoring change with version 1.95 is a massive reduction in points scored for saving the Earth with a G.E.O.S. gem at the end of the game. Previously, the scoring was 100 million points multiplied by the difficulty you chose at the start of the game. This has now been changed to 250,000 points multiplied by the difficulty chosen. With this change, it should now be possible to set a top high score without 'needing' to hit the jackpot at the end of the game. I think this is a much better way to score saving the Earth and won't make players feel quite so doomed for playing really well but just not getting lucky with their G.E.O.S. gem selections.

"Zaxpoleon Dynamite" is now in and can spawn during waves of asteroids just like any other power-up. If collected, you'll earn a +1 counter on your dynamite which is displayed in the upper left UI just to the right of your score. To place a dynamite, simply press either your X controller button or your TAB button on your keyboard. The placed dynamite will be reflected by a spinning star and you'll hear the tick down until it explodes. Be careful that you avoid the area when it does explode or you'll lose a life! (Note that even MESA shield protection will NOT prevent you from blowing yourself up with your own dynamite!)

Zaxpoleon Dynamite can also be purchased with earned cash at the Galactic Upgrade Station between levels.

End level bosses will now spawn once you destroy the last asteroid on each wave and will look to destroy you. You can use dynamite or shots to try and destroy the boss ships and if you have an A55 kicker at the end of a level, it will also help you as long as it is within shooting range of the boss ship! Pay attention to the indicator shown on the Boss Health at the top middle UI as the bar will show you which side of the boss ship is most vulnerable to your attacks. This vulnerable side will likely change many times during your battle. The boss will also make a low 'chug' sound before it shoots a ball of lightning at you, so you can use this as a warning to get out of harms way!

Other changes include a new layout to show all keyboard and controller controls in the "Game Controls" screen and a big increase to rotation speed with the purchase of Rotation Speed upgrades at the Galactic Upgrade Station. Note that rotation speed has already been drastically increased by in version 1.50. Adding additional rotation boost with rotation speed upgrades should really help players whip around at lightning speeds, especially if they choose to invest in it at the Galactic Upgrade Station.

Please post all your bugs, suggestions, and feedback either here or in the forums as your feedback is very valuable and will help me make a better and more enjoyable game for everyone who plays Rock 'N Roll!

I hope you enjoy the changes and additions to this game as well as the two week sale price to snag Rock 'N Roll for under a buck!

Thanks for reading, and thanks for playing.. Now get out there and show us how well YOU can "Rock 'N Roll"! :-)

Rock 'N Roll's Biggest Content Update is Coming! Level Bosses, Devastating Dynamite, and Bonus Rounds.. Oh My!

Alright to anyone who enjoys my game out there..

I am happy to announce that the biggest update ever is coming to Rock 'N Roll soon! While I had hoped to push out this update in time for the New Year holiday, it's just not ready. I've been hard at work however adding a lot to the game that I think will enhance it quite a lot.

If you've seen the last two trailers, then you know that I've hyped new enemy bosses coming to the game who will try and destroy you after you've cleared each level and collected resources from all the asteroids you've destroyed. Also teased in a recent video is the all new "Zaxpoleon Dynamite" which is coming to allow you a powerful new method to doing massive damage quickly to both rocks and enemies.

Also coming and not yet teased in a video yet is all new bonus levels where you cannot take damage of any kind, and start with a single massive asteroid about 20 times bigger than the biggest in the game currently. The goal of these bonus levels is to completely destroy these mega-rocks with nothing but Zaxpoleon dynamite which will spawn in abundance on the screen. The faster you dynamite the mega-rock to oblivion, the higher your bonus score will be!

An all new tutorial mode is also planned to walk new players though progressive training to teach not only the basics of the game, but also advanced game techniques.

While all of this content is coming soon and "could be" patched in today, it's just not ready and to a point I am happy with yet. Everything being added to the game changes the default game mode to such an extent that it completely changes the balance and scope completely. It means that almost every aspect of the game needs re-balancing and lots of code re-worked.

Perhaps the best aspect of all of this new stuff is that all of this additional content is coming to Rock 'N Roll COMPLETELY FREE! The idea with all of this new stuff is to give newer players a less challenging and more satisfying game experience, while enriching the game with more reasons to 'come back again and again' to all players of my game.

Look for a huge new update to Rock 'N Roll in the near future, when I am happy that's it's "ready". While I'd love to give a specific date, all I can say at this point is that it shouldn't be too far out. Weeks rather than months but it won't be "days" would be my best estimate today.

Also remember that the default normal game mode will be getting a Steam global high score reset once the new updates hit and are balanced and tweaked to a point where I am satisfied in giving Rock 'N Roll a version 2.0 stamp.

I wanted to update everyone on the status of this new content before 2018 hits and also wish that everyone out there has a happy and fulfilling new year! Remember that when life gives you a "sad country song", often times your best remedy is a little dose of "Rock 'N Roll"! ..Stay safe out there and have a blast with whatever it is that you do! :-)

What Is "Zaxpoleon Dynamite"? Well, Whatever it is, It's Coming To Rock 'N Roll!

Another teaser for an upcoming feature to Rock 'N Roll as well as the enemy end level bosses shown in my previous announcement teaser.

Should be in just in time for the new year!

UPDATE 1.50 - MERRY CHRISTMAS UPDATE! - Massive Rotation and Maneuverability Increases + Streamlined Main Menu!

Merry Christmas everyone!

With Update 1.50, I've brought what I hope to be a much cleaner looking main menu screen to Rock 'N Roll. You can now select everything from one main menu screen, including a new tutorial as well as the Hard Rock game mode. The second menu which previously was used to select the normal or hard rock mode has been completely removed.

In the Normal "Play Game!" mode, you'll now notice a MUCH faster and more responsive ship than ever before. Rotation speed while stopped has been more than doubled and rotating while thrusting has been increased almost 500% from what was previously experienced. Thrusting speed has also been increased by about 30%. Keep in mind that further rotation speed can be purchased at the Global Upgrade Station between waves of asteroids.

An all new tutorial mode has been added, and is just in an infant state currently. Right now, it works, but just allows you to move your ship around an empty screen and press either the controller Y button or the Q button on your keyboard to exit. Soon, a full fledged tutorial will be added to walk new players into this game and help teach basic game mechanics, strategies, and features.

Scoring is also likely to be completely changed, especially the saving the Earth scoring. It will likely be drastically reduced so that it will be possible for a player who plays extremely well but doesn't save the earth to score higher than someone else who might not play nearly as well but get lucky with their G.E.O.S. gem placement over the reflections of Earth at end game.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to drastic changes in both gameplay and scoring planned for the main game mode of this game, ALL High scores for the main game mode will be deleted with Version 2.0.. likely to hit sometime around or soon after the New Year (2018) hits. While erasing peoples hard earned high scores is never something I'd want to do, I feel this will be necessary due to such drastic gameplay and scoring changes planned for Rock 'N Roll. Please note that achievements earned will NOT be deleted, only high scores and likely on the normal game mode scores when Version 2.0 is implemented.

Update 1.50 is the beginning of a series of patches planned to overhaul Rock 'n Roll into a game that offers a more enjoyable experience for those who purchase and play it.

Another change coming in the very near future is end level bosses that will require your full attention once you shoot that last asteroid on each wave. You'll need your increased maneuverability to survive and keep all of those reources you collected and want to sell!

Feedback is very important, so please feel free and let me know how you feel about this update and the changes already made and planned as well as any suggestions or ideas you might have!

Thank you, and Happy Holidays to you all! I truly hope that everyone is blessed and happy out there as we move into a new year.

UPDATE 1.31 - Stronger Spi-Roll Attack & New Music For the Hard Rock Mode!

This update changes the previous Spi-Roll attack in the Hard Rock game mode. When you collect and use a Spi-Roll attack now in the Hard Rock mode, you'll turn green to show your ship is invulnerable for a short time. Not only will your green invulnerable status last through your spiral spinning attack but also for several seconds after you are hurled in a random direction! Be careful however, because once you hear the dings sound effect and your ship returns to it's previous color, you can immediately take damage from asteroids.

Note that like the Normal game mode when you collect a Smasher power-up there and turn green, if you are currently damaged (red in color) when you use a Spi-Roll attack, your ship will turn yellow instead of green to indicate you'll return back to your damaged and red color once the Spi-Roll attack is over.

Also added to the Hard Rock mode is an all new Rock theme song by Kevin Macleod. Just like in the Normal mode, pressing the X key during this mode will turn off the music, and pressing it again will start the music playing again.

Happy Holidays! Stay safe out there!

UPDATE 1.30 - Hard Rock Mode Time Fixes ..Plus 5 New Steam Achievements!

The Hard Rock game mode has been in need of a little love since it was first created over just a few days of coding it back in October.

In this patch, the time has finally been fixed so that minutes and seconds are working correctly based on real time. Some players might have felt like they survived for much longer in this mode than the game gave them credit for, and that would have been an accurate feeling.

The time not accurately reflecting real time measurements was due to some computers lagging behind real time in the game. Now the timer in the Hard Rock mode bases how long you last based 100% on real time measurements versus what the game calculated as time. With time, even a small difference in a single second adds up over many seconds and this small inaccuracy magnified was what led to the time problems that needed addressed.

The G.E.O.S. progression bar, the G.E.O.S gem counter, and the "Ships" counter all on the upper right UI have been removed in this patch. Now you'll see a "Time Survived" counter to show you exactly how long you've lasted every second of your battle for survival in the Hard Rock game mode.

All Hard Rock time and score Steam achievements should also work correctly now with this patch. Also, five new Steam achievements have been added for the Hard Rock mode. You now get a Steam achievement for lasting 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 20 minutes, and a whopping 30 minutes as well as for scoring 25,000 points.

Rock 'N Roll is far from perfect even as we speak today, but I believe that it continues to evolve and get better one patch at a time.

Have fun, and again, Happy Holidays to all!

UPDATE 1.29 - The "A55 Kicker" Gets Even More Power To Protect You!

This is a small update that gives the A55 Kicker more power than ever....

First off, the A55 Kickers shots do nearly three times as much damage to the VDS than your own bullets. Keep in mind that the VDS will still try and destroy an A55 and you as well, and that bullets are not the most effective method for killing the VDS. Still every little bit of help your A55 might be able to provide could make a big difference!

Secondly, the floating death skull which randomly spawns continues to float around completely unharmed by your bullets, and now will even laugh at you for even trying. The A55 Kicker however can kill the death skull in just a couple of landed shots!

With the death skull being able to spawn a dreaded VDS if it touches your ship and your inability to kill it, the A55 Kicker becomes more valuable than ever before! (Note that touching the floating death skull on difficulty 1 will never spawn a VDS, but rather either a red shooter or a kamikaze space worm)

Just For Fun: ..Wanna Play the Early Access Build of Rock 'N Roll ?

I've decided to make the old early access build of Rock 'N Roll available for everyone who owns the game to access and play just to see the differences between today's current version and the version that was available when it first launched on Steam back in July of 2017.

To access and play the July 2017 launch build of Rock 'N Roll, simply go to Steam and open up your LIBRARY at the top, find Rock 'N Roll in your list of games, and RIGHT CLICK on it and choose PROPERTIES at the bottom.

------------------

Next, on the Rock 'N Roll Properties window that pops up, click on the BETAS tab at the top right.

------------------

Here, you'll need to enter the beta access code to unlock the July 2017 launch build. Enter "launchdaybuild" with no spaces in the blank provided and click the CHECK CODE button to the right.

------------------

And finally, just above you'll now have the "eajuly2017" build available to download and play from the drop down options here. (click the down arrow to open up the list of options)

------------------

Make sure that if you want to go back and play the most current build of Rock 'N Roll that you go back to this BETA tab on the properties window and select "NONE- Opt out of all beta programs" from the drop down list.

Have fun out there! Please let me know if anyone out there prefers the "old school Rock 'N Roll over the modern version of "Rock 'N Roll" available today. ;-)
